This needed to go on. Old school BBC graphics and style.
Wednesday 31st August 1988.
Screen grabs and a photo at the end. at 3:47
Move to the Freeview/ hard disk, DVD thing under the TV.
Burn to DVD.
Move that file to computer, run through editor to render as a more standard MP4 video file and full HD to suit the screen grabs.
A bit of work but here it is.
Did she bang, knock the microphone just before speaking at the start. There is a thump noise?.
I knew I had an old school play from 1986-87 on this tape. Moved that over to digital MP4 file (did some years ago but lost it) and went on a bit to see what else was on the tape. I found this at an end of a evening film on the tape.
Doing a bit of homework as we know what was on the night after and the Friday night film in two days time. The announcer Cathy Stewart told us.
I went onto the Radio Times archive, stuck in a few of the known things that where on and got it down to 31st August 1988.
I was thinking 1987- 88 by the look of the thing and graphics for the weather.
Was not earlier 80's.
Also by the presenters clothing and hair, say no more. I got it down to the time is was.
I was right.
The burning of straw stubble. That is a thing long gone. I remember that happening back in the day.

Awesome, thank you for posting this memory.
Hi Was a nice find. It was after An American warewolf in London. 1980, is it, about that. I was thinking 1984 tape or so. Then the fashion of Jimmy. That lovely clothing and hair style. Went for 1987-88, I was right.
1988 and only BBC Radio 2 was on the air 24 hours a day, with news bulletins on the hour. BBC Radio 1 always ended by 2am and was up and running again at 5.30am. BBC Radio 3 would close at 12.05am and BBC Radio 4 would close around 12.30am or 1am depending if they aired some late night radio schools programming.
Radio 2 biggest numbers and bet is has now. Radio 1 a noise, 3 and 4. Aquired taste. Place we work at last year like Radio 2. So that was on all the time. I remember the telly stopping at night. Good old days.
BBC 1 back then closed down on most weekdays by 12.15am, as once that time was hit, the technician unions demanded overtime payment and this meant more salary had to be paid by the BBC, who were always concerned about their cash. Exceptions were made for Fridays, Saturdays and on occasions Sundays, as weekends were big viewing days, and so the BBC had the cash for those days.
Like any business. Money. Did not know that fact. Makes sense and less watching. Not so much use of money. Was a time. 1970 something people went on strike. colour stuff was done B and W. bet some epasode in a series. colour and 1 B and W. Seen things on it, a fact I am sort of getting right. or not. Technicians, some staff on strike. Was a known thing. Just something on the telly one. Factual program. might be getting facts wrong!.
TV Announcer = Kathy Stewart
