Have you ever wondered what Dragon Ball Super might look like when it returns? Well we have and personally I'm sick of waiting around to get a good look at it. So once again myself and my friends have combined forces for this video.
Using all the most up to date examples of Shintani's style, whether that be
from promotional animated sequences released very recently or if it's through
character sheets and promo art for the Broly movie itself. We put everything
we had into this video and I hope you enjoy seeing the likes of Granola, Moro,
Ultra Ego Vegeta and so much more fully realised in their anime forms.

A seasonal DBS series with shintani’s character design’s would be sick!
I don't think seasonal would work for DB. You're gonna wanna push the toys and merchandise all year along into next year. Not much ground would get covered either so if we ever did go past EoZ it'd take many years.
Better work schedule and management like how Toei is doing with One Piece would be great

I think there getting back to how dbz was when we were kids. Imo there trynna get probably 3-4 arcs ahead. So 1 they can take their time and 2 animate it all well. esp bc db fights should all have fight of the yr potential at this point just off scale and power. also by the time they get through whatever comes after granola toyble will prolly have at least 1 more arc done so then there not breathing down his neck about content or having to do hiatuses

It's unlikely but I really hope the Shintani style becomes the default style for the series. It (to me) seems a lot more simple to draw than previous styles while still looking good.

I’d still love the OG Dbz style but it doesn’t just fit right in this era
And Shinati’s style matches it perfectly
I can't see any logical reason why it wouldn't be. It is much better for weekly series than Yamamuro's stiff style, so while Super Heroes is in Yamamuro sheets, if Super returns it should use Shintani's.
That said, I don't think Super is returning anytime soon. Originally I thought it could return after Digimon Adventure: ended, but they pulled off early 2000s and started an another Digimon series instantly after it in the same time slot. Well, maybe after Dragon Quest ends?

@@unknownvariable9239 nah its the other way around. granola is one of the worst arks I have ever seen and thats surprising because the first ark of gt or resurrection of f exist. it's literally guy is angery and wants revenge and becomes stronger than goku and vegeta in a very small amount of time with some weak dragon and the 3 years left to live could be nullified with any other dragon balls. it's just stupid and granola also forgot about his revenge for frieza too. vegeta just loses his character development for what? nothing and ultra ego looks ugly with the ssj3 eyebrows too. moro was ok and at least everyone felt useful but went downhill when it was a repeat of cell.

I personally think it'd be cool if Ultra Ego Vegeta's hair flowed around like flames if he were animated, since most of his ki attacks have a firey aura. definitely
I have been trying for well over a year to replicate toriyamas style as a passion project and as I have started watching this series I have gotten MUCH better because I now have a basic understanding of how styles work and can be converted thanks to you guys.

I swear the art community, animation or just fanart carry 70-80% of this community. The concepts, style changes, education surrounding it all, and original stories create sooooo much content for people to watch and view YEARS after the show has finished.
This is the same fandom that produced _Dragon Ball AF,_ after all. Dragon Ball fan art and passion go a long, LONG way.
I really could keep watching this series forever. Can’t wait to see what you guys cook up next, I always find it difficult to try to draw in someone else’s style so this series fascinates me.

I hope shintani returns to the anime his designs are so good to look at in motion and in stills, I almost want to see a reanimated version of super with this style either just redoing the animation from the anime or adapting some content from the manga pre Moro.

I really do think that Shintani's style needs to be the official style of Dragonball Super going forward. Especially now, if Toei were to get ahold of Mix's filter, or produce one of their own. The style is actually very well suited for animation and the faster they can animate the better the anime will actually look as there'll be more time to be used to make corrections where needed in post.
... ugh, I just want to see Dragonball Super continue already.
Toei doesn't need to get a hold of Mix's filter, they made it first, Mix just found a way to replicate it as close as he could.

My life has changed irreparably in the past 10 months and it means everything to me that through this, I've always had a new video to look forward to from you. Loved this video a lot! I've always adored the Shintani artstyle and, as a beginner artist, have always struggled and tried to replicate the style for my own works. This video was extremely informative and opened up my eyes to certain aspects of the style I certainly wasn't aware of before, and hopefully with enough time and practice I can one day master the style and maybe even develop further it into my own for my artworks. Amazing job to everyone who worked on this video, you all are some truly incredible artists and did amazing in redrawing and adjusting these manga panels for a more Shintani look.

I really like the art style of manga goku, he looks so serious like in DBZ
Mix's filter is outstanding. Not even in the DBZ videos, did it brought the drawings closer to the style version like this one, at least imo. I guess thats thanks to the Z style being related to shading and line work, where Super Broly's lighting plays a huge role. Having said that, Granolah's drawing is MAGNIFICENT! Hakai Vegeta is amazing as well as the women. Merus looks like a real screenshot from the anime. I'll most likely come back to this video when Super returns airing to see how this work will hold up. Congrats to everyone who worked on it.

It was revealed it was Akio Iyoku and the team from Shueisha that brought the manuscript ideas to Toriyama and pitched him movie ideas such as bringing back Broly.
I assume Tori would rather make more of his own new characters than continue to use and have characters overstay their welcome.
Watching that last drawing, a big stupid smile formed on my face while I couldn't stop thinking "Man, Granolah DOES look cool as hell, doesn't he?"

There’s a higher chance they’ll reuse the 3D animations from SUPER HERO and just milk that into a tv show.

@@user-hl6ls8sv4t Shintani’s minimalistic style is good for sure, especially for fluid animation and yes it would be quite budget friendly, however, with every single key animator already heading other projects, Toei literally has no talent left to work on DBS.
You know what that means? It means it doesn’t matter what the art style is, without talented animators it will look like shit.
That’s why they stated once again in a new interview that they hope to promote other news content with this art style. It’s because it’s cheap as hell to reproduce new content now that they paid the big bucks to produce the models and rigging.

What gonna happen is that super isn’t coming back for a long time since everyone is so busy on other projects
Ouch... Counting the days since Super ended... back in 2021. And it now being 2024... and we still have no Super in sight, Toriyama gone, and the only thing for DB anime on the slate is the Daima that no one asked for... all spelling that we arent going to be getting that return of Super we have been waiting for anytime soon...

With the quality of animation Toei is giving us with Wano in OnePiece, I'm actually thinking will they be able to provide the same quality with DBS anime without degrading quality of the other.
If they manage to set up a proper schedule definetly.
@Cypher well yeah, the recent time out they've gotten for themselves certainly indicates that they're gonna take some time to make it, even if they will release episodes weekly once it comes out, but remember that DragonBall isn't the only anime they'll be working on, it will probably take priority over everything else except Onepiece but still, they have to manage stuff.
@Cypher they're not gonna wait, they'll just make it alongside other projects like usual
@Cypher they don't just have one piece and draginball to worry about, there are a ton of other series to work on, studios want to have a busy schedule all year to keep making profit, it makes no sense to put all your resources on a single project when you can make several and be sure to get some revenue even if some don't quite succeed.

I really hope the anime subverts the manga’s storyline including keeping Moro’s design more original. Like keeping more of the goat and satanic motifs
When it comes to Super's auras, I'd say the big thing that killed a lot of them was the insane amounts of light bloom used, which became particularly bad if the character's design was rather bright to begin with (cough Vegeta cough). Dragon Ball Super Broly, for the most part, says fuck you to using bloom on auras, or at least on the characters currently emanating said auras.
If Supers return looks anything like you guy's drawings I'll be so happy. God I just want Super to return. Can't wait to see UE Vegeta and Moro animated.
This is one of my favorite videos you’ve ever done. How hard you guys work to replicate a style that hasn’t fully been expanded upon is tremendous. My favorite pieces were actually the only ones Ajay and Editor-san did. The girls look so cute in this style, and how Ajay changed Granola’s mothers position and how Editor-san gave the trio different facial expressions were fantastic changes
Do you guys have a tutorial for these filters? Because I would love to tackle retro style and experiment with the Super Broly's visual style too, but there's a limit to how much I can learn from just seeing the end result when the "filter" is applied.
These types of videos could be fun with other series, like One Piece, Naruto, or Bleach. Berserk might be a little difficult tho
