Gosh some of the replies below are mean. Especially the comments if you can’t afford a balcony to look at the ocean you shouldn’t cruise. Obviously living in their own world not realising sometimes you can’t get a balcony, this is the only date you can get holidays and you take whatever cabin is available. As an Aussie if I can’t see the ocean when I sail id get the creeps. I don’t live by the water but I can go and see it. The point of your vlog is there really wasn’t anywhere to go to see the ocean - limited space, limited areas, nowhere to sit and admire and the majority of activities and restaurants were in the middle of the ship with no views. You don’t cruise to sit in your cabin.
On the flips side I sailed on the Quantum in March Brisbane to N.Z.. Eating a lovely dinner in Chops grille - table was near the Maître D desk. Loud and obnoxious American rocks up demanding a window table. For those that don’t know Chops is on level 5 with a deck that lets you walk past. The life boats are on level 6. Sent American dude away as he was early for booking and promised him a window table. He came back and got his window table - with everyone having an evening walk pass the window he sat at , peering at what he was eating and his so called water view was a view of the lifeboats right in front of him, you couldn’t see the water at all. We peed ourselves laughing at what happened. - mean but hilarious.

I've always thought that about Royal Caribbean ships. I couldn't care less about these huge atriums with parks and shops and restaurants. I want to see the sea! Deck 5 aft and also on the sides have multiple chairs and quiet areas with gorgeous views of the ocean. Not many people know about that because it’s advertised as the walking track, so it’s nice that it’s still somewhat of a secret.

I did laps on that track back in January. It was my favorite activity of the morning.
For those concerned about ocean views, the Solarium (adults only) is a great area to look into. Also, the Wind Jammer buffet had nice views and are a lot better than the main dining room in my opinion.
Seeing empty ocean doesn't hold my interest for very long, so I didn't miss the views, but I understand people that do.
I used the entertainment areas at night, and views of darkness wouldn't hold my interest very long.

We sailed on Symphony in April 2022. Never again. I felt like I was trapped in a Vegas shopping mall for a week. We had a boardwalk balcony, so noisy we downgraded to an interior cabin just to get some sleep. Couldn’t wait to get off the ship on port days.

I was going to say, for all the videos I see of these ships, as cool as they look with all the amenities, things to do, etc, it borders on "why go on a cruise? Just go to a theme park". And, unlike Disney, Vegas, etc, people don't retire to their rooms miles away at 10 pm, they're all RIGHT THERE which can't lead to the most relaxing evenings and peaceful nights sleep. I wouldn't mind these ships for a Fri departure/Tues disembark sort of thing, enough time to explore and wear yourself out, but a week and god forbid a week of sea days, I'd shoot myself

I can save money and still get amazing sea views from the Waterfront or Observation Lounge, if it's too windy outdoors. Even the MDRs have sea views. I did an RCL cruise last year and didn't care for it and couldn't put my finger on why...now I realize it was the lack of seeing the ocean. Great video!

Our greatest joy cruising is sitting on our veranda or in the library or the panorama lounge staring at the ocean and all its grandeur. This is the very first time I've ever seen/heard someone mention this. I haven't sailed RC yet, but it's definitely something that should be mentioned. I love sea views whether from my balcony, walking the ship, or top deck. Walking around mostly staring at a mall on the sea would be a weird feeling lol.

    • @y0ubetcham0m
      @y0ubetcham0m Рік тому +2

You can still walk the ship and see the ocean from the top deck and from the jogging track that circles the ship. And from your outside balcony of course. I personally love the open air central areas because you can be outside, without having to be up by the crowded pool areas. I wouldn't want one of those cabins though, even the ones with a balcony. No privacy at all. I think Ben and David made a mistake booking a central park cabin but, it's a review to keep in mind when choosing your own cabin.
Beside, these ships are so wide, it would be impossible to have sea view windows in most places. And the promenade is only on one deck out of 16, or so. The entire ship isn't a mall.

My husband and I were on Symphony in September. We noticed the lack of sea views right away because our favorite thing to do is find a comfy seat and watching the ocean go by out the window. We HATED Symphony for this reason and won’t go on it again. We think it is designed to be an inward facing ship with all of the fun things inside. We prefer an outward facing ship with lots of seating inside and out! We recently sailed on the Celebrity Apex and LOVED all the views of the ocean on that ship! (However, much of the seating was horribly uncomfortable, but that’s another story!)

Never ever! Even large new ships like the Celebrity Edge class have lots of sea views (Eden, Sunset Bar, etc), and on any of the smaller ships of almost every line. I actually prefer the Oasis-class ships for this very reason. If I want to see the ocean, I just go to deck 16. Oasis-class ships are intended to be a floating resort, so on sea days you’re completely distracted by on board activities. I love the ocean, don’t get me wrong. But I don’t need to see it 100% of the time. It’s the trade-off you get with the “neighborhood” concept.
My bigger concern with Royal Caribbean is the poor quality of included food. Celebrity is suffering exactly the same issues with their food also.

Perfect example of "Bigger is not always better". About the suites comment, it reminded me of a Cruise we took on NCL Epic. There was nowhere you could walk around the ship outside and see the front, nor was there a place to be able to see a 180° view as this section at the front was exclusively for their suites, I forget the name of this class. Frankly I was put out by this, especially when we were sailing between Sardinia and Corsica.

We love to see the ocean going by from the big windows in the ship. At restaurants, we always prefer to be next to a window. Our favorite class is the Royal Class ships from Princess - windows in all of the restaurants. Thanks for the review.

I completely agree! I was on the Oasis and thought the same! Luckily I had a balcony but I would like to eat and look at the sea. I enjoyed celebrity cruise sunset bar at the back of the ship. A bar and could also come out from the buffet. Very nice!

I can go to a mall where I live anytime. Why would I want it on a cruise ship? Looking out at the ocean is what makes cruising special.

On my one and only (so far) Royal Caribbean cruise I noticed this too. Last October I took a transatlantic cruise on Anthem of the Sea from Southampton to Liberty, NJ. Several times I told my spouse it felt like we were in a mall rather than a cruise ship. We were so happy we booked a balcony room. We sat on our balcony for hours just watching and listening to the sea (which was the main reason for taking a mostly sea-day cruise.
When we book another cruise we will likely not book Royal Caribbean again, as almost all their ships have the same mall-like design thinking

I agree with you both completely! In 2018, we sailed on Harmony of the Seas. As you mention, it did feel like a big mall or Las Vegas. We usually choose Celebrity, and we prefer their newer ships (Edge Class) over the Oasis ships on RCCL. Great video!

I get motion sickness very easily, and the thing that gets me feeling ill the quickest is seeing the water movement. I love Central Park balcony cabins because I get to enjoy the weather and fresh air, see the lovely plants, during the day hear the fun music from the pool deck, and in the evening listen to classical guitar right from my balcony. The room is still nice and quiet for napping and sleeping in the evening. Having other rooms face us doesn't matter. I saw 3 people our entire 7 day cruise last time. With cameras on the balcony, you can't do anything that would require real privacy out there anyway. No motion sickness from the water means I actually get to enjoy my balcony, unlike ocean facing ones.

i havent been on a cruise before but this is something i didnt think to consider that would absolutely bother me if i were to try it, once you mentioned it i realized thats what has been bothering me about the look of these ships, it feels too much like a floating mall, rather than a relaxing adventure, i feel like it might be even worse if the sun isnt out

Our last 2 cruises were on Symphony and Odyssey. When we got home, we decided no more big ships. I felt ABSOLUTELY claustrophobic on Odyssey. So many dead ends and dark hallways. We are thinking about going back to Holland America and smaller Celebrity and RCL ships.

It's interesting to note you brought up the Suite restaurant and lounge. Because when the Oasis of the Seas first debuted (2009), the Viking Crown lounge was open to all cruisers. I remember sitting up there watching some of the cast of Hairspray (which was originally on the Oasis) doing various Broadway numbers (it was a great show). Allure also had the Viking Crown open to all cruisers when it first debuted and they did a show up there with the cast of Chicago (which was on Allure when it first sailed). It was only later that they converted the Viking Crown into a space exclusively for Suite guests. I am a Pinnacle Crown and Anchor member so I am blessed to be able to use the space. But, you are so right -- the WORST thing that Royal Caribbean ever did was to eliminate the Viking Crown Lounge on the Oasis and Quantum class of ships. BRING BACK THE VIKING CROWN!!!!

How about a little cheese to go with that “wine”! We usually go on the Oasis Class ships. We never missed seeing the sea. There are several areas to observe the ocean. That’s why they designed it to where most of the cabins have balconies.

Ben and David, think about it. The cruise line has raised the number of balcony and view rooms by 50%. Not ocean view or balcony ocean view, but created an opportunity to charge more per room. It is all about the $$$$$.

Never thought about that before - having been on Harmony and Wonder, when I got on MSC's World Europa I thought how much it felt like a cruise ship. I think this video just crystalises my thoughts. The aft of World Europa, where the aquatheatre is on Oasis ships, is all open with glass railings and lots of big lounge seating. It's a lovely spot on the ship. Up top at the aft it has a stepped layout with lots of sun loungers during the day and seating throughout. Down below, the World class have windows out along decks 6 and 7 for instance in the Pizza and Burger bar, the chocolate bar and the Raj Polo Tea House. Love the Oasis class and this video has made me realise the World class really give Royal a good run for their money. Great video!

I like the smaller ships, classic cruising, and drowsy relaxation on comfy chairs looking at the ocean when I take this kind of vacation. My last (older ship) Celebrity cruise in Feb I even did Peloton rides in their fitness center looking at the gorgeous ocean and ports through a floor to ceiling wall of windows. Thanks for this no-ocean-view tip. I was avoiding mega ships already but this is something I never thought about!

There are many different types of ships out there and I’ve been fortunate to try many of them including Wonder of the Seas which is the same class and loved it. It really does depend what you are for. Is it visiting many different countries, spending time in the casino, gym and spa. Or is it about being on the open seas. That’s the joy of cruising, there are many different types of ships out there to discover. It wouldn’t do for us all to be the same 😁
