This video is what got me to know BBVD. The gentleman in the video (the bald guy) was a co-worker/friend of mine whose name is Derek Mears. He came in one day and told us he was in a music video that had just been released and it was this one. So by watching this video, I became aware of BBVD and have been a fan ever since. Derek, by the way, went on to play Jason Vorhees in the Friday the 13th movie franchise, Edward in 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' and 'Swamp Thing". If you ever meet him, he is the nicest, funniest most selfless guy you will ever meet.

This is absolutely my favorite song ever. I remember listening to it on MTV when I was about 13 or 14 years old and it just was awesome and still is to the day. I love everything about this song. It’s just amazing to me. When I first heard it I could never find out what this was until years later when I heard it again (don’t remember where or even when I heard it though) then I was able to find it and I listened to it four what it felt like was days and days straight. The whole Americana Deluxe CD is one of the best CDs ever in my opinion not a bad song on there.
Really funny story about me and BBVD; I used to work in a restaurant when I was younger and I worked for going on I would say 30 some hours straight as a cook (they were opened for 24 hours straight and I was the only cook they had, the other ones called out or didn’t so up) didn’t really get any sleep just just cooking and cleaning constantly. I was past being tired. And I was listening to the “Live” CD on repeat so much that I stated seeing things. I was cooking something (don’t remember what) and during this song I just stopped cooking and was staring at where my dishes were right below the tickets and suddenly I started seeing little green men and women dancing to Mr. Pinstripe Suit. And I must’ve been staring there for a while cause one of the waitress came back into the kitchen to ask me what the hold was on the food and she just saw me standing there looking at nothing and she went to get the owner and basically shook me awake and asked me what was happening and I said to him “I think I’m losing it,” I said. The owner looked at me, “what’s going on?” I responded, “nothing just staring at little green people dancing on the plates.” The next thing I really remember was as getting into a cab and going to my apartment and crashing into the floor. My roommate said that I was sleeping so hard that I thought you were dead at one point. “I tapped you to see if you were still alive, and you were so I let you sleep.” I slept for almost 18 hours straight that time.

Those were the days, when MTV still played music videos. And such the baby face! I agree that the Alexandria made for a cool set, although perhaps a touch too much smoke machine... My faves: Bottle Makes 3 & How Big Can You Get. And I always wondered who the Bigtime Operator was...

    Hey Scotty,
Happy to share my interpretation of what your video means. It's a very surreal video with a lot of light effects and a lot of effect shots, strange costumes, and weird characters. The pace is also extremely frenetic, with few shots held more than a second or two, and many in rapid succession that go even faster. There's no narrative but I believe that's the point. The video takes a lot of cues from early days of silent film, and in particular the special effect shorts films (often 15 seconds or shorter) or early film production when people were still figuring out what the new medium was capable of. This makes sense if Los Angeles and the Alexandria were being used as a source of inspiration, the high contrast black and white palette of the video, and the choice of the actor who played the "magician," who definitely gives off Max Schreck vibes.
I have no direct evidence (I've done no research on this) but I definitely read this video as a celebration of the bigwigs - the innovators and inventors, the producers and actors - who created Hollywood.

In regard to the Mr. Pinstripe Suit video.....love the different aspects of the 1920’s: the girl with the marcelled hair, the magician’s water escape trick that looked like something Mr. Houdini did, the architecture of the ballroom.
I really enjoy Music Monday. Thank you Scotty for another terrific video!

Scotty, THANKS for explaining how the video was made because, to be very honest, I was sooo disappointed when I first saw it. It just made no sense and didn’t do justice to my absolutely favorite BBVD song. Definitely not what I expected. Why the director took the direction he did on the video defies logic or sense. Fortunately, the song’s great lyrics and music aren’t greatly diminished by it.. I hope someday you guys come to San Antonio or anywhere else in Texas so I can get to see a live performance. All the best.

I am guessing that the theme here is "VooDoo", since the zombie aesthetic is part of all that, and it's part of your band's name. They also looked like they were gonna sacrifice some goats and chickens.
