If I were eager to argue, I would have said more than a one liner. lol I see your point, but I know a few people that try to argue that point and there is no point in arguing that point because everyone fluffs up their cattle and clips them to mask faults and intensify good points. That's just how everyone does it and I've never ever heard of someone doing well with a sleeked down calf. Just throwing out some facts that I've learned over the years. I don't mind you ending the conversation... lol
It's no different than if i were to think my hair looked better up than down. If it makes the calf look stockier and well filled, great. If you don't like it and want a sleek calf, go for it. No sleeked down calf is going to win over the "fluffed" ones. Sorry if you're offended but its the cold hard truth. ;)
Through reading the comments, Im seeing alot of people saying that you have to fluff your cow to show it, and in some areas thats true but I know at least where I live the judges like the calves sleeker. If we go to state or national shows they need to be fluffed a bit but otherwise they are fine sleek. I think its different depending on where you live.
Since when did I say I showed calves to win? I'm just saying that fluffing the calf doesn't make it any better of an animal (and it's easy to tell when they are fluffed), so why do judges reward it? I don't see anything wrong with a pen full of sleek, healthy animals. Not to mention, a lot cooler and happier. If everyone would just leave the hair alone on show day, it would be a fair class and the animal would be judged for what it was. Livestock shows just aren't about that anymore.
...Nevermind. You seem to be eager to start an argument with me, and are not even trying to see my point in the least from what I can see. I'm ending the conversation now.
You fluff them to look better and a lot cutter yes u should be judging on meat and muscely but they have hair so use it ecspecially if they have a lot use it to ur advantage
But really, does the amount of hair on a calf make its meat better, or make it's genetics better? I'm sorry, but I think judges should count off for too much hair. It's just disguising the actual animal. And (Just my personal opinion) it downright looks stupid. Sorry if you were offended, but come on.
Can you make more detailed vidoes cause I have a calf I need to show
Very good video. Showing it to my students!
awesome vid......wish i'd seen this before the fair :)
make a video on how to show them, like walk around in the ring.

I wish the judges would stop rewarding the fluffy look. Meat animals should show muscle. You can't eat hair!

Nope! They aren't. So if you'd like to be competitive, get fluffin'!

certin classes are about the exhibitors ability to prepare the calf and combing brushing and fluffing is apart of that
