I love the parallel between the lyrics, as if the character portrayed in the song is the personification of Justice, indiscriminate, never truly good or evil.
My favorite line "I'd pay the devil twice as much to keep your soul" like... how badly must you be wronged that you hold a vengeance so strong that you'd pay the devil twice what a soul is worth. That line “I am the righteous hand of god, and the devil that you forgot” it is so powerful and angelic as devilish as the line sounds it has a strike of divinity which is wizardry to the heart.
Folk Music is sooo underrated. I don't and never will understand why people favor modern country over masterpieces like THIS that modern folk artists like Poor Mans Poison and The Crane Wives make. I'd absolutely rather hear a powerful revenge song about burning down an entire town than some budget cowboy with auto tune singing about his pickup truck/mother is sad he just got out jail. @@MLaak86 That one's gonna hit a point sometime at the end of the century where it becomes cliche to use it, because so many people will wanna use it. And yet the song will still be classic in that era.
Idk if this was intentional or not, but I like that we don't really see any of your faces, we see your mouths and at one or two points there's a profile view with hoods covering your eyes and I like that, because it seems like it goes with the story in the song, that no one recognized the drifter's face when he returned.

I grew up largely in the punk rock and heavy metal scene, with some dabbling in the acoustic area of those genres. Eventually I found folk punk and got super into that. But this? This is something all its own and it is fucking AMAZING. Somehow I relate so much to the lyrics in ways I don't really understand. But it's just so damn powerful and convincing, I'm gonna be listening to it on repeat for a few weeks at least.

I honestly almost cried the first time I heard this. The power in the vocals, the harmonies, the energy, I love it all! Definitely one of the best songs I've ever heard.
I was feeling real relaxed, close to drifting asleep from his soft and pleasant singing, cradling me to a lullaby till all hell came loose. The beat suddenly shook me to my core and I felt adrenaline I hand't felt for a long time.

My favorite part is at 1:13, i absolutely love the sudden change to a much faster beat. The vocals and the enunciation is pristine. The instrumental is glorious and the back up vocalists are really pulling their share. Truly amazing song here.

Man. Considering that they went on a major break from releases, then released this is just poetry. I have half a mind to believe that this song feels so genuine because the writers felt like the main character, coming back to folk music just to burn it down with passion like they always swore they would.

I had this playing in the living room yesterday when my 14 year old son and his girlfriend came strolling in. She, very unexpectedly began singing it right along with Ryan. I was totally shocked. My son knows a very large portion of PMP’s catalogue. He looked at me and smiled when she was singing.
I know I'm not the first person to drop a D&D story here about this song (and probably not the last) but the session we has last night was so good that I wanted to share it: So we did a one-shot as a sort of precursor to our current campaign. Two adventures were commissioned by the Head of Defense of the continent & an unknown associate to retrieve a pair of dragon-scale revolvers from an Ancient Crystal Dragon to prevent them from falling into the hand of a very dangerous family, whom we've come to call the fantasy mafia (I sat in, but did not play). The two went two toe-to-toe with the dragon, earning his respect but not killing him. The dragon granted them the revolvers, bound his soul to the two of them, as well as bounding their souls to any ancient artifact in his hoard, which would allow them to embody once they die. The two adventures emerged victorious, but it was short lived. Just as they left the cave, they were ambushed by the man who hired them, a member of the dangerous family they were warned against, Trowel Lludd. Trowel and his armada blew up the entrance of the cave, preventing the dragon from interfering. He had every intention on killing the two adventures, already severely wounded from the dragon fight, and taking the guns. The Bard, out of spell slots and no where to run, fought tooth and nail. The Barbarian Druid used an elemental ability to burrow deep underground. The Bard was killed, Trowel took the guns, and they left. The Barbarian emerged sometime later to find his dead companion. The dragon finally broke free from the cave-in, with the crystal rapier the Bard bound his soul to. Unable to leave his hoard unprotected, the dragon sent the Barbarian on a quest: Take the rapier, find a group of champions, and take revenge on Trowel Lludd. And so, the Barbarian, "the righteous hand of god", with the rapier containing his companion's soul, "the devil that he forgot", in hand, left on his quest, with this song playing in the background. Trowel would go on to build his weapon manufacturing empire thanks to these ancient weapons. And the real kicker? Trowel Lludd is my character's uncle. But that's only the tip of the iceberg with their story. I'll end it here. Maybe after the campaign goes on a bit I'll tell more of the story. But yeah this song was one hell of a way to go out on.
i don’t have tiktok but i started to watch a compilation of this song and 10 seconds in i was like oh my god this is actually amazing so i decided to look it up and holy cow!! i normally hate country but this has so much story and depth, like someone should build a movie around this song
So this isn’t technically country, so if you like this style but don’t like country I’d recommend looking up folk instead because they use similar instruments to country but these songs are often tailored toward story telling. This band specifically finds themself in this niche “punk folk” type of music

I discovered this song after creating my DnD character an occultist that made a pact with an archdemon to avenge his village. He later broke his pact and joined a god, discovering that the demon he pacted with was the one that destroyed his village. He then re-built his village and found the archdemon, imprisoning him forever. When I found this song I was blown away by the epic lyric and the coordination with this story

I grew up largely in the punk rock and heavy metal scene, with some dabbling in the acoustic area of those genres. Eventually I found folk punk and got super into that. But this? This is something all its own and it is fucking AMAZING. Somehow I relate so much to the lyrics in ways I don't really understand. But it's just so damn powerful and convincing, I'm gonna be listening to it on repeat for a few weeks at least.

Man. Considering that they went on a major break from releases, then released this is just poetry. I have half a mind to believe that this song feels so genuine because the writers felt like the main character, coming back to folk music just to burn it down with passion like they always swore they would.

I know I'm not the first person to drop a D&D story here about this song (and probably not the last) but the session we has last night was so good that I wanted to share it:
So we did a one-shot as a sort of precursor to our current campaign. Two adventures were commissioned by the Head of Defense of the continent & an unknown associate to retrieve a pair of dragon-scale revolvers from an Ancient Crystal Dragon to prevent them from falling into the hand of a very dangerous family, whom we've come to call the fantasy mafia (I sat in, but did not play). The two went two toe-to-toe with the dragon, earning his respect but not killing him. The dragon granted them the revolvers, bound his soul to the two of them, as well as bounding their souls to any ancient artifact in his hoard, which would allow them to embody once they die. The two adventures emerged victorious, but it was short lived. Just as they left the cave, they were ambushed by the man who hired them, a member of the dangerous family they were warned against, Trowel Lludd.
Trowel and his armada blew up the entrance of the cave, preventing the dragon from interfering. He had every intention on killing the two adventures, already severely wounded from the dragon fight, and taking the guns. The Bard, out of spell slots and no where to run, fought tooth and nail. The Barbarian Druid used an elemental ability to burrow deep underground. The Bard was killed, Trowel took the guns, and they left.
The Barbarian emerged sometime later to find his dead companion. The dragon finally broke free from the cave-in, with the crystal rapier the Bard bound his soul to. Unable to leave his hoard unprotected, the dragon sent the Barbarian on a quest:
Take the rapier, find a group of champions, and take revenge on Trowel Lludd.
And so, the Barbarian, "the righteous hand of god", with the rapier containing his companion's soul, "the devil that he forgot", in hand, left on his quest, with this song playing in the background. Trowel would go on to build his weapon manufacturing empire thanks to these ancient weapons.
And the real kicker? Trowel Lludd is my character's uncle. But that's only the tip of the iceberg with their story.
I'll end it here. Maybe after the campaign goes on a bit I'll tell more of the story. But yeah this song was one hell of a way to go out on.

I discovered this song after creating my DnD character an occultist that made a pact with an archdemon to avenge his village. He later broke his pact and joined a god, discovering that the demon he pacted with was the one that destroyed his village. He then re-built his village and found the archdemon, imprisoning him forever.
