I also hate how they forgot about so many things and details.. Carol basically didn’t exist in S2 and they didn’t give Ray and Isabella a moment, it’s as if Isabella forgot that he’s her biological son lmao. Also the left gracefield kids are not surprised that Norman is alive like wtf.
Also wasn't Ray supposed to be missing an ear? He spent the first part of S2 with a bandage on his ear and then it's just randomly gone and both ears are completely intact.
I feel bad for all of the animators that worked on the promised PowerPoint because I’m sure they hated drawing this just as much as we hated watching this
To add insult to injury, the PowerPoint doesn't even look that good. The shots of Emma & Mujika holding hands and those random flags on a battlefield do like quite nice but everything else is derpy. Still frames should always be ultra-polished.
Season 2 EP 1: We finally got to the other side of the cliff what do we do now? Season 2 EP 11: We saved humanity from years of fighting time to go to NYC
To be fair they don't even know he was supposed to be dead, only Phil knew the secret so to all the other kids Norman has always been alive. But they also didn't show Phil's reaction so this isn't an excuse.
in my opinion, the best part about the first season was how incredibly smart the kids are. the reveals are amazing and tense and you get attached to the characters. in the second season, the kids don't think. they get lucky constantly.
They just deactivated their fckng brains, but who cares as long as they have the power of *plot convenience* on their side? I do. And so do a bunch of other people. In conclusion: yeah, the second season really sucks.
Season 1 Emma: Cared for others but had logic and rationality when decision making Season 2 Emma: Insane amount of plot armor. All logic out the door rejects any other plan besides her own, believes she can fix anything with the power of love

@@lampsenpai4325 Yeah, the early chapters (1-10) is a slow start slice of life introduction. But the plot will gradually grow and will eventually become interesting. The digital english fan translation of the manga is colored but the physical book of it are monochrome, sadly there's no official translation for the book.
They also do basically nothing with Ray knowing Isabella is his blood related mother. In fact Ray barely does anything of importance after the first season, he was basically turned into a side character assistant to Emma. Though in fairness even the manga was guilty of this as well.
Honestly would’ve been better if this anime was given the Bleach/Hunter x Hunter treatment. Just end the season on a cliff hanger and hope one day another studio will pick it up rather than half assing the ending of the series.
I so agree with you... The time, work, and effort that the over-worked animators have put into this just got wasted... They should've just animated the entire escape arc till the end of the goldy pond arc for this second season and end it with a cliffhanger for other studios to continue in the future if they ever want to... instead they half-ass and butchered everything and all of the budget and work put into this just went to waste...
Seriously, they cut out _three arcs_ and _two years_ of growth, along with over 50% of the main cast. For what? To ensure that they'll never make a season 3?
I did this the right way: I read TPN, saw season one, skipped season two, watched the chaos online, then finished with this video that hilariously gives me the quick and dirty of that trainwreck
I watched till Ep. 3 When I saw Mujica gives Emma the Pendant without telling her about the Seven Walls I immediately sensed something is absolutely wrong~
That is extremely true, i noticed this even before the final ep. The ep where emma says she'll go see Norman tomorrow to Ray, as he turns his head, the ears are there! I was so shocked, the fact that no ears was such an important thing and they just gave him free regeneration
Remember when the author of Demon Slayer was brought to tears because of how amazingly well done their work was? It seems like Cloverworks is trying for the opposite type of tears
As an anime only, I don't know what I was expecting the finale to be but it certainly wasn't a dripped out Phil and Don with a smartphone riding the NYC subway
Yeah go read the manga. I'm actually shocked how much better it was because I was unsure about it. But they really ruined it with cutting important stuff out which is needed to understand the ending, characters and the story itself. I don't even really like to read manga because I love voice actors and music and all the stuff but I'm actually speechless how emotional I got by some parts haha
@Klutz MtG I was thinking of reading the manga after S2, but in reading this comment I'mma pass on that. Because I've been in your shoes with an anime adaptation of a manga I enjoyed called Samurai Deeper Kyo, and I don't wanna feel that kind of rage every again.

At the end, my disgust for the story shifting is but an opinion, and some people could tolerate watching it. Still, it's terrible how they handled this.
@@xxTC-96xx Yeah, but that kind of logic doesn't make for good business decisions in the current market. A lot of the studios that "went big" are now either closed because the cost is so much, or they were merged into larger studios who strategically avoid going big to stay in business. What likely happened here is that they bit off more than they could chew and had to make do with what budget they had. I agree that it sucks, but that's the reality of art as a buisness.
Season 1: one of the best first seasons in the world. Season 2: one of the worst second seasons in the world. The way they messed it up is just uncanny.
When I read the manga I was most excited for emmas "death scene" at Goldy pond. Where she is in the void and "mom" snaps her out of it and pulls her to the surface. Not having goldy pond arc is idiotic. Easily the coolest part of the story and where Emma really gets her footing as a badass character.
Goldy Pond was a drag, it would last for an entire season and it would mount to nothing. All the goldy pond introduced characters are nothing but powerhouses. Author needed some people to hold guns. Anime did better by killing soon and ending the pain. People are on copium and acting like manga was any better. Manga after Grace Field escape went downhill the same way, the entire hunting ground was stalled the story a lot for nothing. The elevator there didn't even get to be a plot point and all the plot conveniences happend in the manga. The demon god was a plothole itself. Demons evolve by eating organic material. So did someone eat a literal magical god?

The funniest thing about this is how Phil still looks like a 4 year old after 2 years of the "story", even during the powerpoint in the human world, and then he suddenly looks like a 10yo for the 3 seconds at the end
right before he went to the human world he shouldve been about 6 years old but I dont see how the montage wouldve covered more than 2 years since it doesnt look like emma or anyone else grew up that much
The episode where they reached the elevator at Gracefield felt like a UA-cam parody of supervillains, "Ah! You fell into my trap!" "Oh but you fell into MY trap!" "Oh but you fell into my OTHER trap!" "Ah but you fell into MY OTHER trap!"

@@heartofdawnlight More like the entire 2nd season was doomed from the start, bad production schedule (ep 10’s LO was done 3 weeks before airing time), trying to wrap up a story that deserved more than 2 seasons in 1 due to the whims of a production committee that wanted the show done and over with, wanna watch something else from Cloverworks that besides the schedule, had an amazing producer that tried their damn hardest to make a show with artistic integrity? Watch wonder egg priority (Tho it really hasn’t finished, production schedule really was hell there too, but that was more to the ambition of the director and main staff, not to the whim of a production committee)
In the first season, every little scene, every little POV, every little line that a character said had meaning. Every single aspect helped to build up the story and plot, and I especially loved the foreshadowing in it. In this season, I feel as though there is so much useless information getting thrown into our faces, yet there is little information that helps build the plot unless it is presented to us within twenty seconds.
Exactly, it feels so rushed and it lacked so much. The anime itself had SO much potential that was just thrown out the window. For example, Norman's 'death' didn't feel like a slap in the face like it did in the manga, he was gone for only 7 episodes!! It didn't give us enough time to actually miss Norman. It just sucked overall
I dunno why, but I think the first season worked as its own story. Not seeing the outside world and how the demons operated gave this show a sense of ambiguity of how serious the threat was. The second season sounds really complicated compared to the first season, where it was just a simple story about kids trying to escape a human farm. The ending with them seeing the sunrise to a new world, and this flicker of hope that they'll be able to survive whatever is thrown at them next- I thought that was a great ending, knowing that these kids are more than capable of dealing with it.
That’s not the thing. People are mad is because they skipped arcs and they revealed mom and Norman to be alive so damn early it didn’t even feel special
I agree. Actually, one of the reasons I won't watch season 2 (beside the bad reviews) is because the first season feels so self-contained that I don't think it necessarily needs a continuation.

My first problem with the season was the pacing. It felt weird to suddenly jump one year after they had been chased out of the hideout. I laughed that the season had lost the series' eloquence, but I did not expect it to get progressively worse... When the last episode ended I could barely make it through without laughing. Everything about it was ridiculous, I was so disappointed at everything and- yeah, I'm gonna read the manga
The first season was amazing - there was a constant sense of uneasiness and anxiety. It kept you on the edge of your seat and sent chills down your spine The second season started off OK but it was so rushed - and that last episode was terrible! I was expecting more Norman/Emma/Ray interactions, since when did Emma and Phil become the main characters? And why was there barely any Isabelle x older kids time?
AND THE WOLF GIRL. AND THE KILLING ROYALS PLAN, WITH AN ALLIANCE WITH DEMONS. AND ANYTHING THAT IS GOOD ACTUALLY. They pressed it, made it an orange juice, threw it, and gave us the flesh of the fruit. Disgusting
I hated how they didn’t add Yuugo, he was the one who made Emma realize that even if she makes a mistake to keep going and to no regret her decisions. Ughhh and ADAM!!!!! Why?
The 180, total forgiveness of Mom at the end is insane. I'm not forgetting her in S1 being pure Evil.. whispering to Kill major characters if they speak out.. I also remember Emma and Ray literally CUTTING OFF THIER OWN EARS to escape her. 'But sure, we loved you the whole time, Mom. You always loved us..😀🤗' ..wat?
I remember all the Isabella apologists and romanticization lol. I get she was stuck in a cycle of horror just about nobody understands that she couldn’t get out of, but I don’t understand the kids completely forgiving her at the end and still loving her after what she did to them. She did the best she could given the cirumstances but I guess it’s just strange
It is worse than ex-arm, unfortunately. Ex-arm was bad from the jump and never showed any promise other than being a trash can fire the whole time. TPN actively misled its audience from the start (even lying about certain events) and ended with a PowerPoint presentation. That’s worse to me.
@@MustacheDLuffy Thing is we all knew ex arm was going to be barely-anime-bad from the first trailer. They didn’t even try to hide it. TPN on the other hand...

I don't know how many people would agree with this sentiment, but I think it would have been better had we got a second season that was more faithful to the manga but was the unofficial end of the anime over the rushed mess we ultimately got.
The difference in Emma's attitude in seeing the demon in S1E1 to when she was running from the demon thing in S2E1 was what did it for me. It was her second time ever seeing a demon (this one being numerous times more threatening), and she's somehow composed enough at the age of 10 to direct the younger kids on what to do. Also how did that demon not catch any of those kids, some of them are like 6 years old

I bet so many passionate workers cried when they had to make the season this way. It´s clear as day from the first season that they loved their work. Storyboard artists cried. Animators cried. Writers cried. Voice actors cried. Everyone who loved the begginings cried.
I have no doubt about that and I genuinely feel bad for the production team that worked on this second season. No one wants to make a bad product and it must be awful knowing that what your working on is falling apart and you know you have the ability to make something so much better if things were different. All you can do is patch things up as best as you can, present the final result, and hope that it still works out even if it's gonna be kind of clunky. I just hope that the production team will be able to have some space, emotionally process everything in a healthy way, and have another shot to make something new.
@@Mayro_69 Honestly even saying it is "fucked" would be an understatement... The crazy things is that the manga is exactly the same. In my opinion the manga just gets worse and worse after the goldy pond arc. The only interesting part is the return of Norman and his crew. Everything just goes Emma's way and no one challenges her.
@@iwandile That's not really true, in the manga Emma still struggles to convince Norman not to go through with his plan, and I think the reason it seems like Norman bends to her will so easily is because she knew that he didn't really want to go through with it anyways. Norman: "OK but if we don't stop them they're gonna keep genociding us" Emma: "but it make us just as bad" Norman: "oh u right" -- Like, no, Emma, I get it but like... They literally don't need humans to live but they're killing them anyway, and what else are you supposed to do? It's genocide 1 VS genocide 2... Can you blame Norman for wanting to choose the genocide that ISN'T the humans?
So People, we only have one episode left to end this long journey, what should we do? Director : Put Images in Powerpoint Presentation format about them spending 3 or more years both in demon & human world for a few minutes, Then reunite them again. THE END Everyone : Genius! Let's do that
I mean the kids in AoT don't look like kids with its art style whereas the kids in TPN do look like little kids, its still stupid but that could be the reason
The plot twist with Isabella was in my opinion the worst thing in this season except for the powerpoint ending everyone already hates. It's laughable that a) the kids would want anything to do with her or the other moms after Isabella sent hundreds of Grace Field kids to their deaths (including trying to send her own son) and smiled sadistically about it, and b) that she would help a bunch of kids she clearly doesn't care about because Emma "doesn't care about her destiny". Then they try to push the blame all onto one guy as if no one else has any blame for the horrors that happened.
Right? When my brother messaged me saying he was glad Norman was actually alive I was like "wait wait wait, how many seasons of the anime they have out right now???"
Yeaaaahh! Lucas and Yugo was an important part of their development. Idunno. I just read and it really frustrates me that i won't be seeing it animated
I think the moment they left the orphanage was already a problem. The dense, packed atmosphere quickly turned into an adventure, and honestly there is not much they could have done about it. Sury they could have made it better but the fact that those are two completely different scenarios is a problem in itself.
The saddest thing is, Demon Emma had no reason to exist when you had 2 little demon siblings running from the carnage that could have encountered Norman and reminded him of his own siblings and showed him how demons have and love their families too and etc. but noooooo those were for Barbara :/
Yeah, what a convenient thing to happen. Like a demon called Emma infront of Norma at the perfectly right time then having Human Emma coming from behind when he was about to kill the demon ? The manga is top tier compared to the Anime.
I now look like an idiot hyping my friends up after i showed them s1 and told them s2 is going to be unbelievable. You should’ve seen the look on their faces after i told them not to watch it after i hyped em up like a 6 year old child looking forward to their b-day

Everyone at grace field is meant to be food for the God they showed, but the Queen, who caused the whole story with this next action, decided she wanted the food instead and sent Norman to Lambda for that reason. Idk ignoring that, not talking about Peter betraying his brother and choosing demons, ignoring Goldy Pond’s villain who becomes their hero in the end. Norman: i want to eradicate all the demons AOT style so that emma, ray (and others) can have a safe future Emma: I don't want to kill the demons because I am the protagonist that can do no bad Ray: you guys have character motivation?
i'm a huge fan of ray, and going into the manga, i was thinking, "oh boy, i can't wait to see what cool stuff ray did!" now that i have long since finished reading the manga... i am still waiting.
I mean that this point Ray doesn’t really give a shit anymore and all he wants is to be with those he cares about, back in S1 his goal was to save Emma and Norman, NO.MATTER.THE.COST. But now not only was he proven wrong by Emma and Norman, but was saved and brung along to see the future Emma wants, and for all they know at that point Norman’s dead so he really got nothing but to just help Emma out when needed and just being there to support his friends. And by the time they figure out Norman’s alive, a lot of the kids really grew in survival skills so their not really overly dependent on Ray anymore, so after the escape Grace Field and Goldy Pond, as much I love Ray, I gotta admit he’s basically useless other than having some like 1 million IQ moments like they did in Grace Field. And most of the time Emma’s the one having those, not Ray, I wish he wasn’t done as dirty as he was, but tbh there’s not a lot for him to do.
@@revui834 Ray was planning to die to let Norman and Emma escape he had no real motivations after that. Once he left with Emma, he pretty much agreed to follow her lead on things.
I just dont get why they did that, the manga was finished, they literally could draw the anime panel by panel perfectly just like they did with season 1, why did they have to completely derail the anime by making all these stupid changes, if you feel you couldnt animate certain scenes or arcs, then give the anime over to someone who can, dont go creative and ruin the story
Or at least they could've ended it after goldy pond if they bothered animating it and make a season 3 another time. I don't understand the reason to animate everything if they can't menage it. Money wise or insufficient staff.
My 9 year old sister got into anime by TPN season 1. She rewatched it several times just waiting for season 2 to come out. She got so into each episode though near the end it was just, "Oh, is there a season 3 with Emma freeing everyo- wait why are they doing stills?" It was breaking to see my sister's face just drop in the last 20 minutes. After the last episode, we kind of just sat in silence while I googled if there would be a season 3, desperately trying to ignore the fact it was wrapped up in 15 minutes. Something we waited months to come out just ended so unfulfilling. Though I'm happy the anime came out as it got my sister into anime and gave us something to bond over, I just wish her favorite and first anime ended better.
You should recommend Assassination Classroom to her, though I'm not sure if she's old enough to watch it. But if she's okay with TPN, she should be okay with AC.
you should try to bring her into manga, because this version is much better handeled than the anime on the contrary i cant approve the stuff they said about braindevelopment, its true that the basicstuff ends at 6 but the greatest part ends with 2, and the end of our braindevelopment is with 24-25 but with a tendency that over generations to end for the later date with the prefrontal cortex as last part. when you want to so a new anime with her i would recommend full metal alchemist, its a anime i can say resonates with a large group of people even the ones who arent into anime.
I hope they'll make a season 3 explaining season 2 was just a one night ray's nightmare because there is too much too be disappointed with the season, its like they rushed everything in 2 weeks of animation and skipping everything or someone just threatened the animators to make this season as worse as possible

in my opinion, the best part about the first season was how incredibly smart the kids are. the reveals are amazing and tense and you get attached to the characters. in the second season, the kids don't think. they get lucky constantly.
Agreed. They threw the smartness under the bus, and they put the typical cliche ‘I got lucky’ thing. Disappointing.
The manga suffers from this towards the end, as well. Though they're still smart and think tactically for a good majority of the run.

Goldy Pond was a drag, it would last for an entire season and it would mount to nothing. All the goldy pond introduced characters are nothing but powerhouses. Author needed some people to hold guns. Manga after Grace Field escape went downhill the same way, the entire hunting ground was stalled the story a lot for nothing. Best character tingz
666th like 😈
Exactly, it feels so rushed and it lacked so much.
Honeslty a lot of animes have this problem where the second season juts harms the shows ambiguity

We live in a world where the promised neverland is a legitimate contender for the top 5 worst anime list in the same year that Ex-arm came out
It is worse than ex-arm, unfortunately. Ex-arm was bad from the jump and never showed any promise other than being a trash can fire the whole time. TPN actively misled its audience from the start (even lying about certain events) and ended with a PowerPoint presentation.
That’s worse to me.

@@iwandile That's not really true, in the manga Emma still struggles to convince Norman not to go through with his plan, and I think the reason it seems like Norman bends to her will so easily is because she knew that he didn't really want to go through with it anyways. Everyone at grace field is meant to be food for the God they showed, but the Queen, who caused the whole story with this next action, decided she wanted the food instead and sent Norman to Lambda for that reason. i'm a huge fan of ray, and going into the manga, i was thinking, "oh boy, i can't wait to see what cool stuff ray did!" now that i have long since finished reading the manga... i am still waiting.

She was so excited when it came out and reminded me every week to watch the new episode with her. She got so into each episode though near the end it was just, "Oh, is there a season 3 with Emma freeing everyo- wait why are they doing stills?" You should recommend Assassination Classroom to her, though I'm not sure if she's old enough to watch it.
