How to make an Origami Star of David

  • This Star of David is not really easy, but also not really complicated. The "woven" effect is pretty amazing, considering it is made from a single square. I saw the model first in a book of Kunihiko Kasahara but I am not sure as to whether he made the original design.

It took me like 5 or 6 tries to get this model completed, but with the help of your video, I was able to do it. Thank you for taking the time and making this tutorial! Great job!

Wow! At first I thought it was some kind of modular origami. Anyone who can make this thing has some real talent. I didn't make it but I still liked it!

This is a great video. I am a novice origami folder, but I think I could do this. It makes a much nicer Star of David than the simpler ones, and yet is not too hard!

Whew! I did it! First try... Though I probably did over-use the pause button and I rewatched multiple segments more than once. At the point where the video indicates you can fold to either side and it doesn't matter which I went with the opposite way than the video example and ended up getting really lost. I went back and made sure what I was seeing was what I was doing... That made a huge difference. This is a really cool project. Thanks!

Great color and the music is excellent, I appreciate all kinds, dubstep, rock, country, folk, hiphop, grunge, there are good pieces in all genres, thanks for the tutorial, watching the hands fold and listening to music is like an escape. There are some posts that I put on the mute button and listen to a podcast, then fold along. Thanx again

yes you are. there is nothing wrong with this video. i have used it as reference for like 5 stars. just because you have no skill doesn't mean you can get mad at him for nothing. there is no need for him to talk either. it's easy enough to follow.

When showing the two options at around 7:20 I could only collapse to the mirror image of the one the tutorial continued with. As a result I had to keep flipping the instructions for the remainder of the video and wound up with star with a counter-clockwise orientation. Getting that last overlap correctly was very tricky and took a few minutes. However all said and done .. a great video!

Star of David is known as "Kagome (籠目)" which means "patterns of baskets (made weaving bamboo)" in Japan.
It is one of the most sacred symbols in Japan and engraved on old stone lanterns at Ise Grand Shrine.

Thank you very much for making this video. :-) This is a beautiful model. I agree it's somewhat difficult and requires patience. Some of the difficulty seems to come from making a six sided model from a square. I can't help but wonder if there is a way to make this from a hexagon.

To those watching who are having trouble - Just follow her hands and do the very same things she does. She doesn't speak, but she points things out. Also, have patience. I'm not a very patient person, but I laughed about how weird this was and tried the same thing for about 15 minutes straight.
