I could never do this before sleep and rarely meditation because I fall asleep immediately!! Only works when I am fully awake n sitting behind a desk! I guess gotta roll w that somehow

I get a little confused about the idea that we are not supposed to react to a negative event but also that we are supposed to say something to express it.
You know if you need to react and get it off your chest it’s OK but then go back and revise it. Because you’re right, suppressing it is not gonna be good for some people. They reminded me of this one Indian mystic, Paramahansa Yogananda, who went to see a movie in America. The movie was very happy, but I had a surprising sad ending that left him very sad. So he went back and watched the movie again and when it was joyous, he left the movie so he could have that state of mind caring with him the rest of the day, because he was a very sensitive soul a d knew the importance of feeling. So if something negative happens and you feel to express your upset that’s fine but you don’t want to stay in linger there because it’s just gonna perpetuate the situation either now or in the future bring similar situation. So to break this cycle, you kinda have to ask yourself what would have been better to happen instead, how would it have felt if something else happened instead? naturally, it’s gonna be a better feeling so you kind of train the brain and the neural pathways and just holding that more positive energy and this can chill and change the typical type of experiences. For instance, before I studied Neville, I don’t know why, I used to be terrified if I saw the dettifoss waterfall, and I break down in tears. But the more I talked about the fear of it the more just continued on, and then I got so afraid that what if I’m in a movie one day and they use it and a movie and I’m trapped in a theater and it’s on the big screen. And guess what, then some years later, Prometheus comes out and the very same event happens, but they made it look very beautiful in the movie. But at the time I had to let it out that that waterfall scares the hell out of me I don’t wanna see it and I don’t like it. It just felt comforting to tell my loved ones and have them soothe me and even protect me from it lol. But then I realize it’s a silly to be afraid of a waterfall and I wanted to be over it and thinking about that, it kind of brought me to the end of seeing myself, not afraid of a waterfall and I’ll tell you what when I sometimes make meditations today for myself and I want to cleanse all the negativity, sometimes I see that waterfall but now I see it’s so beautiful that it’s so powerful. It cleans all the negativity away. And sometimes when I try to tell my hubby about how I used to be afraid of this waterfall, I’ll try to find a photo of it or video and it just doesn’t have the same scary power anymore and it seems silly. But instead, I associate it now with such powerful cleansing and healing force in my visualizations.
When you feel horror and lack of control of dark images and feelings it is naturally trying for anyone. 1) Don't beat yourself up, know that most of us have been there to at some point, but states can be transcended. 2) To help pull yourself out of an unwanted state just let it be and intentionally put your focus on things that resonate with you that help put you in a lovelier state: This can be listening/reading/watching works of mystics that touch your heart and healing and nurturing yourself with this content (ex. For me I keep some of my favorite quotes in a notebook from Nisargadatta Maharaj to Eckhart Tolle to Florence Scovel Shinn, etc) and I might start the day reading one of the quotes/passages and maybe when I go to bed to start and end the day with the words of those who knew who they were/are and had the status quo, per se of a lovely life. 3) Be careful your mental diet the rest of the day, especially where you may be unintentionally feeding what you don't want to perpetuate (ex. watching too much negative news or talking about such negative news everyday, throughout the day or reading/listening/watching to other media about the thrills of life). These things evoke reactions/images/feelings we often don't want to perpetuate. It can get addictive to some people without them even realizing it, until their tastes become more refined and they become more discriminative to what they lend their attention to and what they immerse themselves with. But sometimes one goes through a trauma and may need to talk about it but its good to balance that with getting in nature (ex. forest or ocean or even a beautiful sky) or playing with a pet or baby or engaging in art/dance/music to help get present and connected to your natural nature of profound eternal peace and joy beyond words. Then from this place you can note what you don't want and then what you want instead and write/type what you do want down. Read this list morning (upon awakening) and night (before sleeping, etc) to keep your focus, even on a subconscious level. You can fire it up by seeing (a loved one)/hearing (their voice congrats you)/feeling (their pat on back) and replay it until you lose yourself and feel a shift in spirit. Same way you feel when you daydream and forget the world or watch a movie and forget you're watching actors. Continue until the new seeds gel and blossom and gratitude of how it all came to wondrously stay feeling to keep it going. Look at all the good that still is going, you're alive, the sun and moon rise everyday and think of other things that go right because there is always some good and what you focus on grows and can help shift your current situation. Sometimes its as simple as a random act of kindness from another or a good cup of coffee or meal. Even if the world continues to reflect the horrors continue, its old crystalized energy that build up over the dream(s) of life but mystics are teaching you a powerful way to uncreate by creating (focusing on the feeling) of what you do want. Horrors have the seed to dynamically help us cultivate that intense energy to turn water into wine in transforming our life with a naturally controlled and persisted imagination. Remember its not about stressing but enjoy like a child the imagination hand-in-hand with the personal successful and miraculous experiences of the masters helping us remember the way to do it ourselves.

What's a good way to cope when something horrible has happened and you keep seeing the images and feel doom and gloom?
