I was so impressed to hear him say this and this was in the 80s and he was a teenager and its 2021 and I didn't do research just used common sense to get to these conclusions (but I am old, and wasn't smart like he was when i was that young!) But every time i mention something like this to somebody people are looking at me like i am nuts and its been over 30 years since this show!! Gosh!!! Its scary the level of ignorance and non-awarness

Look at River's face when the caller makes the "appearance" comment, wow!! He looks so sad and hurt by it. I loved River Phoenix and read that he was extremely sensitive. I'm sure this comment really hurt his feelings. Back in 1986, I was 13 and remember seeing Stand By Me in the theaters. The Goonies & Lucas had been released prior to this, and both "Coreys" were very popular. But I also remember thinking, who is this kid River? He really stood out and was, in my opinion, way above the rest, in terms of his acting ability, and in the way he carried himself. You could tell that he was a special Human Being. By far, my favorite actor growing up. He was so unique, and he was SO ahead of his time, it's such a shame what happened to him. It seems like just yesterday when my brother was calling me into the family room on Halloween morning in 1993 and CNN was reporting his death while showing a scene from My Own Private Idaho. Nobody's perfect, everyone has demons, some more so than others. Requiescat in Pace River.

I admire these three for their willingness to take a stand on important issues. Voices of reason against obscene profit-making. In the world we live in today there is a concerted effort by mega-corporations to ridicule these views as extremist. Billions of dollars are spent to silence voices like these.

Because Lisa wasn’t wearing a bra and doing so would’ve made her “more presentable” in the calker’s mind. He’s saying “you’re you are being old fashioned” like you’re grandmother who would’ve been wearing one of those restrictive nasty bras meant simply to create a specific feminine shape. He’s being clever. Hope I cleared that 4 year old confusion for you. It was his version of that disgusting insult “ok, boomer,” but instead he was actually very passionate and creative about how he made his points, unlike today.

There are thousands of rooms back stage of a concert, tv show, radio show, etc., filled to the ceiling with food and drinks and half of that supply doesn't even get eaten, probably thrown out. It's like really? we can't share that with people who are REALLY fucking starving across the world? People that REALLY need it? Even though, yeah, Lisa has "exposed herself" in not a very decent manner and River abused drugs doesn't mean everything they say and do is negative! That witch was trippin' that day. How can you call in just to state the obvious but personally attack them so negatively like that when they are trying to be positive?
    Wow. People suck.
It is totally an excuse to say you don't believe an actors' preaching on these issues just because of what they have done that you personally don't like. Not listening to these truths truly is the shame.... not their "appearance" PURLEASE. I can't stand certain celebrities today, but I still follow some of their health regimes because it is TRUTH.Use your common sense, it's easy to know the difference between when a celeb is selling out and when they share something that has helped them succeed that can truly help you. River and Lisa are just like us all... no where close to perfect. River did drugs to escape reality. He knew so much truth and was so awake that you feel alone and it can get scary. When I first started waking up I did the same thing. For YEARS! But then I came to Christ. I longer need the drugs on this lonely scary watch of truth. Though I walk the valley of death I shall fear no evil. Once you learn how to deal with reality things get better. It’s scary at first though! Rest in power River!

What did River say right at the end? Something about the caller's grandmother? I couldn't catch it. I just got "Take" and "Your grandmother."And that was a stupid thing for that caller to say about the way River and Lisa were dressed!

@KennedyCorey Okay, that is how you feel. But to me, He did change my life. He is an inspiration to me. I don't think of his bad moments, I take in all the good he did. He taught me to stay away from drugs. He taught me to love the planet even more. He influenced me, so I'm happy with that in my life.
I guess everybody has there own opinion on who is a hypocrite or not.

You mean the caller? I think she meant that you would take both River and Lisa more seriously if they've had a different style. Like a suit or a fancy dress, I don't know. I think that you take them more seriously when they're themselves and represent what they believe in just like normal people. It makes it more real :)
