Enjoy watching your videos. Quiet, humble but obviously intelligent. You are an educator.
Face reveal! Handsome guy, nice to finally see you.
Thanks 😊
Wish to thank all the factory workers for fantastic products...keeping Americas pride
Love the behind the scenes at Allen Edmonds...thanks for bringing us along.
My pleasure! I’m glad you liked it
Preston because of you I have purchased my third pair of Allen Edmonds shoes I am very happy with them and I will continue buying more
I've seen a few factory tour videos and I have to say, I'm a little more impressed with AE after each one. Your video is by far the best and most visually educational I've seen so far. Good job man.
Notice Steve from Bedo's Leatherworks on the same tour.
"Let's continue."
This is where I met Steve for the first time
Great video!! Greetings from Peru, you have such an amazing channel.
A great episode! It really gives us an insight into the inner workings of a company that is clearly proud of its brand and the people that help to build and sustain it each and every day. Thanks & Blessings!
Nice video Preston, I to had an awesome time with the tour
We need to do it again
The Elegant Oxford yeh that would be cool
HI, STEVE!!! 👍 Alright, let's continue.
Angela Buteau hi Angela
I’m ok honey just REALY busy, I’ll upload as soon as I can
@@BedosLeatherworksLLC THANK YOU!!! I'm having withdrawals, dammit,Man! 😂
Another informative and interesting video from The Elegant Oxford! Thanks for showcasing a timeless American brand, Preston! You do a great deal that has caused many to look differently at and enjoy more quality leather shoes.
What a cool look into the making of the classic shoes! Thanks for sharing :)
Glad you liked it!
You should tour my work place. Its not as big but it is true old world craftsmanship. We have been making boots the same way for over 100 years, Hand lasted and hand sewn to the insoles. You can definitely tell in the wear of the boot/shoe.
I’d love to. Email me please
Lmaoooo I live like 40 mins south of Port Washington and I never knew they were based out of there - POSERRR! Hahaha
Reminds me of when I was a child and watching episodes of Mr. Rogers as he visited factorys lol
holy sh... your intro gave me a jump scare lmao. Great vid tho! Glad you got to see where the product is made :)
Zorbcck me too not used to seeing his face
What a fun tour! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
looks like a great opportunity, thank you for sharing!
My pleasure
I read the title as " I tortured the Allen Edmonds Factory in Port Washington" lol
Patrick G Hahaha maybe he did
I can relate Hahahahahahaha!
BRUHHHH😂😂😂😂😂
I tortured the staff until they agreed to do an Elegant Oxford line
The Elegant Oxford Did you ask them to bring back the Fifth Street? The Hamilton doesn’t count 😉
That was excellent!, thanks! Love Allen Edmonds!
Glad you enjoyed it
I think it was pretty cool to see !
I don`t know anything about shoes, but i like UA-cam vids without annoying and loud music. So i subscribed.
When Charlie Bucket grew up he went to the Allen Edmonds factory.
Good to see you mate!
I love my McCalister, I just got mine and I loved it!
I'm totally going there, it's an hour and a half from me.
Thanks for the video... Keep up the great work.
You’ll love it
love your videos! thanks for sharing this...
Thanks Preston!
Thanks for inviting us along on the tour.
I’m looking for (ideally) a Canadian made shoe but American would be fine. In searching and studying I had discovered Allen Edmonds. I haven’t purchased a pair yet and it was nice being introduced to their process.
That’s great! AE definitely ships to Canada 🇨🇦
Fantastic video!
Really enjoy factory tours. Suggestion for the beginning part, step back a bit. Find you are too close to the camera lens and it is cropping your head. However, it may be the camera lens not being wide enough as well if you're crammed for space. Either way, keep up the good work!
Great vidio , great company.
I love these two companies (Allen Edmonds and Woodlore). As you said AE doesn't make the best shoes money can buy, but man do they make good solid workhorses. 2 of my day-to-day shoes are AE (a 3rd to be added soon) and I honestly couldn't be happier with them and the support that the network provides.
I’ve fallen asleep to these videos on your channel the last few nights. I saw a comment that says you are the “bob ross of shoe shining”, lol so true. I just graduated university and am looking for my first real pair of dress shoes. Allen edmonds are so great but a little pricey. Will be buying them this week though ha. Just commented for the UA-cam algorithm. Thanks for the video, merry Christmas!
Love all of your videos. Thank you so much for putting this content out for us all. Do you happen to have a video on caring for natural brushes and dobbers? Do you also have a video caring for leather soles? Thank you again. Have a great day.
Before the video with Kirby Allison Preston was only voice and hands. Nice to see you again
👍from France
great video!
Great video! Wish we couldn’t got to see the Woodlore Factory tour as well, but appreciate you sharing this experience. I was waiting to see a clip of you jumping in to the polishing station and showing them what’s up! 😂
I wish that would have been awesome
your the voice behind the elegant oxford video.
Vidéo très intéressante et qui met en valeur votre savoir-faire.
Thanks for sharing...
Great video
Great vid. :D
Wonderful! TY.🖤👍
Thanks, Nina!
Wow what a treat! I would absolutely love to go see there factory! I personally think you should do a collaboration with them and design a shoe!
A video tour of Woodlore would be fantastic Preston
Excellence!
I have 6 pairs of Allen Edmonds from their Classics to their boots. I really like them and its what I can afford with two college-age kids. It's even better I can support an American company in the process. Thank you for the video!
You’re welcome!
Ayyy there's my grey suede normandy boots🤙
Thank you bro , i felt as if i was touring with you. To see such quality work being done here in our country is amazing. Ill trade you some black Imperials for a used Allen Edmonds i picked up at a thrift store
Glad you liked it!
Wow. I had no idea what goes on inside a good shoe factory. Thanks for the tour. I live in Kolkata (Calcutta) and there is a leather complex where several small shoe manufacturers have set up workshops. Most of them are Indian Chinese. Those workshops are nowhere near to what's going on here. Keep up the good work.
Wanted to try some Allen Edmonds but heard a number of complaints about their quality control issues and ended up buying a couple of pair of Cobbler Unions shoes which I am happy with, and have great customer service.
Never had a problem with them
I think Cobbler Union is a better option at the same price point. Without a doubt.
Thumbs up if you jumped back once he appeared on screen.
Alex you are a rude bastard.... and correct!
Thanks for getting me interested in Allen Edmond shoes... I have my first pair of refurbished AEs and found a pair of Lodings. Now need to get a brand new pair.
Awesome 👏🏻
The Elegant Oxford if you ever make a list of recommended cobblers that can resole AEs in the USA or Canada ( im in Toronto) it would be awesome to spread the shine.
The Elegant Oxford didn’t realize you were LDS, the elders in your ward must have the shiniest shoes.
Cool!👍🏻😀
☝🏻👍🏻
Your very lucky getting that tour 👌
It was definitely cool
Enjoyable!
Thanks!
nice! what an achievements :D
👍🏻
Did this 10 years ago. Saw the whole process of a pair of shell shoes being made. Mine!
That’s awesome!
I am a 9 EEE welcome to the odd foot club!
Well Donald when I was selling shoes forty years I would told you that you had round feet.
I’m 11.5 EE
Nice!
I saw your nose hair follicles, and yet, I found your video awesome. AE for life, baby!!👍
Awesome! So much I don't know about shoes, would you make like a bio of shoes models for rookies like me? 😁
The strand is my favorite
Nice video! Also there's Steve from Bedo's!
You're like the Binging with Babish of shoes!
I wish!
I love anything industrial 😎
That was awesome to watch!!
I knew they made a lotta shoes..but no idea it was 5k a day 😳👍🏼
Yeah they put out a lot of shoes
HI, PRESTON!!! Great to see your AE factory tour finally! LOL I saw Steve in yours, saw you in his! Haven't seen anything from him in a little while, hope he's ok. Love ya, Preston! Kids that baby for me!
*edit: WHAT on Earth is going on with Jim's shoes!? He needs to send those to you? 😬
Thanks, Angela. Steve is great! He commented on this video too.
Baby is doing great. She’s sleeping next to me as I respond to comments. Hope you are well.
@@TheElegantOxford Doing great, Preston. Glad to hear he's well, too! 💖
As much as I adore my Allen Edmonds, I’m really concerned that their quality is going to go downhill with their current management. The new Neumok 2.0 is now made outside of the USA. Shoe bags are no longer offered for every new pair of dress shoes, only select ones, and now one bag instead of individual ones. What’s next?
Ditto. I stopped buying AEs after numerous QC issues. I switched to Alden Shell Cordovans-even their shells are of the highest quality in craftsmanship.
Great channel, thank you for your time and expertise ! Question: I have wide feel (not sure if they are E,EE,EEE, etc., and somewhat "thick". How can I select/purchase an AE shoe without know which last to choose ? Do all AE retail stores have shoes with all the last (I doubt) ? Thank you ....
If you go into a store they will properly measure you. Most store i found have a very extensive collection. If not in stock, they can get you what you need in very short time.
@@straycat62 Thank you again, appreciate your time, efforts, knowledge.
Hi.... Elegant Oxford.
I am kuldeep Batham from India i am shoe lover. I want to tell you you are my favorite. Your shoe and polish. I am learning how to Care a shoe. You are making my personality great. I hv seen your many videos and start buying high quality leather shoes. I am manager in Needs supermarket Pvt ltd. In India. Many customers ask me about my shoe. I feel happy. Thanks to you and your team.
That is awesome!
I’m looking at some of these boots.
I'm fixated on your glasses. Now I have to go back and re-watch the video for content. :)
Excellent video Preston! I may have missed something, but did you mention who you were with during the tour? (On your side, not AE people). Also, just curious as to how you set up the tour and if Allen Edmonds were eager participants, or did it take some convincing of management to set up your tour and interviews? You did a very nice job of editing the video and I enjoyed watching/learning about the AE production process. Great job!...Ed
I am a moderator at The Allen Edmonds Enthusiasts group on Facebook. We were invited to come.
Nice! Those are trunk-show 19.2 orders--I saw some first ave shells
OR is that 19.1?
Yes I believe these were
That’s wonderful. Very enjoyable review, thank you.
You mentioned that AE uses only full grain leather, but I have heard before that they use on some models corrected leather.
lagavulin laphroaig they used corrected leather on some models in the past-not today, if I am correct
I wonder
They only used corrected grain in the 90’s when it was popular. It’s not used today.
The Elegant Oxford so all the talks from time to time on the AE enthusiasts (Facebook) about some models made of corrected leather are just nonsense...
I’ve never seen a post like that. All corrected grain discussions on the AE Enthusiasts page are in reference to 90’s pairs. You can check any catalogue or even call AE and ask them, they no longer use corrected grain.
I love my Allen Edmonds shoes
Thanks for watching
@@TheElegantOxford Thank you for the great content and education!
Headed to the plant in three weeks. Any tips other than what you stated on your clip? I can’t wait to see it in person. Thank you for sharing Preston.
Enjoy it!
I plan on it Preston.
Can you tell me where you purchased that apron your wearing with the leather straps? I think its cool!
I got it off Etsy
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Seeing how so many uppers are hanging around, waiting to be put on the lasts, just underscores why it's so important to put leather conditioner like Renovateur on a new pair of shoes.
Too true
You should try a handle bar moustache
Quick question, I was told by someone in the past that AE would not re-craft one of their shoes if it had been worked on by another non AE cobbler, such as having the soles and heels replaced, is that true? Thanks and great video 😎
Yes I believe that’s true. I don’t think they want to deal with someone else’s work.
Did it smell like leather?.. Woodlore must have smelled amazing.. Nice video, thanks!
Woodlore did smell great!
Any possibility to do a restoration of a european style shoe? Would be nice for us to learn how to shine those caps😄
Good idea
Wait so what are the best shoes?
It's very interesting to me how thin the leather hides seem in your filming. Touching the shoes it feels much thicker.
That’s because the shoes receive a leather lining as well and are then stretched over the last.
@@TheElegantOxford. Very nice, so it's layered. There goes my theory of looking for drum dyed leather looking for the same color of leather inside and out.
Is there a factory store on location? I go to Michigan 2 times a year and I might take the ferry across lake Michigan to go to the factory.
Yes, on location. It’s called the Shoe Bank

I just read "I TORTURED THE ALIEN IN EDMONDS FACTORY..."
If the reviews are any indication, your most common brands will soon be changing, as finely-made, quality brands in the $195 to $300 range flood the market. Unless the QA issues are soon resolved, AE is doomed. Thanks for your videos, marvelous tutorials.
AMERICAN MADE 🇺🇸
Captain ... question the income of the workers...
ALX You’re a pessimist, you people always try to find something wrong in great things.
Captain ... no,i just wondered how much these very skilled workers earn while producing 500 shoes worth around 50000 to 100000 dollars each days. that's a massive amount of shoes of a really high quality. and these kind of workers should really be able to live very well from there income as reward for there amazing work.
If you could only buy one pair of dress shoes, what would they be? Based on style, quality and comfort.
From Allen Edmonds? The walnut Strand. It’s one of my favorite shoes.
Ok thanks! How about outside of Allen Edmonds?
Sorry for jumping into this conversation as I’ve previously commented on this excellent video. Just wanted to say that AE Walnut Strands are my favorite shoes as well...Ed
Kid you get a free pair or a great discount on one?
13:40 synthetic insoles. Also AE market synthetics in the shoes as comfort features, and massively varies from the wisdom of traditional shoemaking. It is sad. The reality is that they are cost cutting in order to survive and using marketing terms to put a positive spin on using synthetics.
Then read the corporate jargon and empty words of current owner www.caleres.com. It reeks of the me me me mentality. Not surprising they are using synthetics given the ownership. www.caleres.com talk about PASSION....yeah, passion for cost cutting and using synthetics. They also talk about ACCOUNTABILITY...yeah, for their shareholders.
I know many AE are still made good, but beware fellas, the wolves are at the door with their shareholders and daring cost cutting is being made by cutting jobs and replacing components with synthetics. When a company like www.caleres.com starts putting empty words and spin on things you know the wolf is nearby.
It's a shame, but I think you're going to see a LOT more of this since they were purchased by Caleres. Listen to what CEO Diane Sullivan had to say: “Allen Edmonds shoes have been something men aspire to - shoes they buy when they’ve achieved a certain station in life,” she said. “[Now we want to] make Allen Edmonds part of the journey, part of his lifestyle along the way.” Sorry lady, but Mercedes-Benz doesn't compete with Honda Civic for a reason.
@@arsbadmojo Yes, they need to do less talking and make good products instead. Quality products will sell themselves, and they don't need empty words made up from someone in an office. If they continue to reduce quality, even the most fancy slick phases will not save them, but of course they don't know that....like with most companies who go down this path, they will learn the hard way!
It's the beginning of the end. Caleres is devaluing AE into the next Florsheim/JM/Cole Haan etc, etc. It's extraordinarily sad to see the expert craftspeople toiling along in this video and think that in 5-8 years, they'll all be unemployed and that Port Washington factory will lay silent while a Chinese crew halfway around the world will slop glued on soles onto plastic uppers.
I agree with this, sadly. Now some of their dress shoes that were formerly made in Wisconsin, are made outside the USA. And the shoe bags? What’s with no longer offering individual felt bags for every pair of dress shoes? I’ll be infuriated if their current management fucks up the brand. Shame on them.
What model of chelsea is that exactly at 9:00?
I think those were prototypes.
Skip to 4:30 for the tour
Why?
Nice footage of the factory. I sent you a Dm on Instagram. Whenever you have time to read it. Thanks for sharing this video.
Just received my first pair of AE boots. I’ve owned a pair of AE dress shoes for many years. The quality on the shoes is amazing. The boots will be returned. I just received them today. The right boot has a sharp edge on one of the lace hooks. The tongue has scratches from the issue. The welt on the right boot is misaligned in the heel area. Waited three weeks for the boots and they have to go back. I’ll be requesting a refund. Very disappointed.
I’m in Australia, how do I get them?
I’m not sure if they ship to Australia
The Elegant Oxford tragedy!
Actually, I found out gilt.com do it!
You kinda look like Al from Al’s Toy Barn
That’s because I am! I fixed Woody but now I fix shoes
Have you done any work with Thursday Boot Co? I find they have really good quality boots/shoes.
I have a pair and absolutely love them
Apparently most of the leather etc is cut and done in DR then assembled in the US for several shoes someone was saying.
Watch the video, I directly address this.
@@TheElegantOxford I did but the president is gone.
