    There's a Terry Pratchett quote that runs something like, "it's still magic, even when you know how it's done."

    Speed thing up to such a high degree is a great way to boost retention rate from dedicated audiences. Clever move.

      There’s a limit to how long people generally watch for. Most of my videos are simpler drawings that can be sped up less, but this topic required a more complex scene. 😀

    I find your process of working out the details, on a larger scale from your "main" drawing, on a separate "planning" piece of paper very helpful.

    I've just started drawing and that's pretty much describes the problems I've encounted so far. Objects are to detailed to draw. To get detail in that isn't there is certainly the answer. Big thanks very helpful

    I’ve just joined your channel. Thank you for demonstrating your amazing talent. I’ve watched some of your videos already and find them to be such great examples of architectural sketching with a pen. May I request that you draw in real time please, rather than sped up. It would be great to see how long it takes you to produce one of your drawings and how you go about drawing it. Sped up footage loses those details. Thanks in advance.

      Thanks Graeme, I do have a few in real time, and a number are double time which still looks quite slow, but longer drawings just end up taking more time than people will generally watch. But I do plan to do some more real time ones, so keep an eye out. 😀

      My pleasure Mark. I started drawing at 60, although I had painted in oils for ten years before that, which helped my drawing way more than I expected. Never too old. So get ready to amaze yourself and have fun. All the best with it. 👏👏👏

    Your channel is an actual goldmine of information I just stumbled into! Even though I draw more abstract scenes and doodles, a lot of the techniques still stand, and you explain them in a very easy to understand way. Thanks 😊
    I normally draw with fountain pens, but I’m looking at trying some technical pens as well, any tips for good ones that don’t break the bank?

    • @stephentraversart
      @stephentraversart  Рік тому +2

      Thanks Coen. It’s kind of you to tell me. I always recommend buying pens you can afford to use up and through away and replace. Quality of materials is not as important as being free to free without restraint from fear of wasting expensive supplies. When I started I bought a selection of brands and bought more of the one that worked best for me. 😀

    'Draw the effect of the detail not the detail itself," has been eye opening to me. Thank you so much for this insight.
    What marker do you use to put the shadow values? Looks like a copic of some sort.

    • @stephentraversart
      @stephentraversart  Рік тому +1

      Copic Sketch markers, the brush end, in various tonal values of Neutral Grey colour. They are not cheap, but they are refillable. 😀

    Have you ever done any research into artists such as Hubert Robert, Charles Louis Clerriseau, Antonio Joli and the wonderful Scottish artist David Roberts; namely how they managed to paint quite intricate architectural details? What methods did they employ? Pen and Ink?

    Hello, Really great Job , could you please share details of drawing material used for lines shading etc.many things to learn from the videos

    • @stephentraversart
      @stephentraversart  Рік тому

      Thanks. I use Copic Multiliners for the line work, and Copic Sketchmarkers for the tone, using the brush end, not the chisel end. I use Neutral Grey colour for the tone, usually 4-6 tones each drawing. The markers are refillable and the pens can have their ink cartridges and nibs replaced.😀
