Thanks for sharing, Yulia. Sometimes even moving to a different city inside the same country is a challenge. It is amazing how things can change between one place and another. And even more amazing is how human beings react in their own unique way.

Oi Yulia! I'm from Brazil and moved to Canada (Ontario) 2 months ago. The first week was so hard, I was not expecting that! Getting closer to people, hobbies, going out to do new things, routine and grateful mindset is definitely the secret. In Brazil is pretty much always hot too and this will be my first winter but I already know I love 4 seasons too. Thanks for the video :) Tamo juntas

Haha I love how perspective change for people of different nationalities. Like you said that you were missing snowy winter in Portugal. I was shocked. Because as someone from India, i really don't Canadian winter. That's the only thing harsh for me snowy and depressing winter. Infact, i like the Mediterranean countries like Portugal.

I moved to canada 6 months ago and I’ve been having a blast! But to be honest I’ve started missing winter weather back in Peru, 99% humidity and a bit “misty”, that was my favorite thing about the winter, walking near the beach with a cup of coffee 😍. We’ll see how it goes.

    Interesting perspective.
I moved from Porto to Calgary a year ago and I had a sort of the opposite impression about the sun. Porto was always windy, rainy, and gray. Calgary is super sunny and now I feel depressed when there is a whole cloudy day, so it's been a very positive change. Having lived in different continents in the last few years made it difficult to me to connect with people and make friends though. Hobbies help a lot indeed. And I'm also working on not having the temporary mind all the time and being patient to myself, enjoying the routine and the little things too. Good luck to us 🍀

Interesting how perspectives change depending on where you come from. Brazilians always say one of the things they like in Portugal is that they can really "see" the difference between the four seasons. You say there is no marked difference between the seasons...

    • @ThisisYulia

haha that’s true! I come from places with 4 seasons, so Portugal only has 2 seasons for me: summer and cold summer 😂

@@ThisisYulia The Brazilians say they can clearly see the FOUR seasons in Portugal. If they come from the north of Brazil, near the equator, they only know one season all year round, the only difference is that it rains more in some months. If they come from the south, near Argentina, they see two seasons, Summer and Winter - but no well defined Spring or Fall.

In general, CHANGE is always hard. I moved from sunny, humid Florida to Southern California and was culture shocked for about 2 years. Even though I was still in the same country, everything around me was so different. I've never seen big mountains, crazy traffic in Los Angeles, plus I lived in a suburb of LA where it was mostly Asian. In Florida, people of European descent are the majority. My neighbors here were all Asian, and at my job all my coworkers were Filipino. I work in heath care and 99% of my patients were Latino so I had to use my very rusty Spanish skills all day to communicate with them. I cried every day like you did. I just wanted something, anything to be familiar. I started making friends and my first one was Chinese. She was my neighbor in my building and I found out she was also in SoCAL for the first time. She was raised in NYC her whole life and was completely culture shocked too. She never learned to drive in NY because transportation was easier on the subway or a bus. She was also in California by herself and knew 1 other person before she arrived. She and I discovered many cool things together like hiking and rollerblading at the beach. It was so nice having someone who was a transplant like me.
After 17 years living in LA, my husband and I moved to San Diego. Guess what, I still cried for about a year after we moved because I missed the familiarity of LA and all my friends. I've been here now for 3.5 years and I absolutely hate when I have to drive back to LA for something (family, concerts, etc). San Diego reminds me of Vancouver with its diversity and clean downtown area on the water. I've been stuck in traffic only 3 times and it was because there was a huge accident on the freeway. I love being close to Mexico to explore areas there too and having the option of cheaper goods/services.
Overall, when we move to new places, we MUST take the effort to make new memories and talk to people. This is how the roots start growing and flourishing even though it's hard has hell. Your channel is honest and entertaining. Keep the videos coming!

Anxiety, crying every day, and feeling lonely. Even though I have a group of friends and coworkers here, my mind still keeps telling me this is not home. If you want snow, try Serra da Estrela during winter time. I've been there and it was a nice (and it was cheap)!
But, from my experience, the most known destination for snow here in Portugal is Andorra (it's a small country between Spain and France). A lot of teenagers and young adults go there (especially during the final years of high school/university as a graduation trip). You also have Serra Nevada in southern spain also well known in Portugal.

I am from Alaska and traveled to Bali , Indonesia during that time. I was really busy most the trips and after a while I became homesick and missed my family, the seasonal changes, family events and seeing things I missed important family times. Because I had returned home every 6 months I would forget the homesickness. When Covid virus hit I had to stay home for 2 years and suddenly I missed traveling. I haven’t started traveling yet because this past summer I was diagnosed with non-invasive breast cancer and had been dealing with that. I had to stay home this winter because I had to receive treatment and work on recovering from surgery, Radiation and hormone treatment. Believe me Germans work very hard before 2020to just visit sunshine anywhere in the world. Also every country has a spiritual climate, a fixed cultural mindset, and In winter you needed the wood burning fire place along with the Austrian down comforters for sleeping toasty warm :the high quality ones ! Knitting ! Wearing wool sweaters in winter is a must. Buy Wool socks and warm Ugg sheep wool boots to wear in doors !! . Learn how to cook using a Dutch oven on your new wood burning stove or a crockpot ! You can also go to Canada for Christmas. Believe me people are big complainers here in NY State and it is a mental illness. They love to complain but they never make healthy life changes. So, German would love to Rent your space over Christmas ! Make money and go home for the Holidays !! Come January many people are focused on work and kids returning to school. Also, we must respect the new culture where we live. They like their country the way it is. I cannot stand it when US people want every country to be just as confused as the US. Every state has its own personality. I give you permission to travel to Canada for Pumpkin Latte and snowy Christmas. Then you will be able to appreciate the sunshine better. But do look into small wood burning stove if possible and you can enjoy homemade soups and stews and the ambiance of fire stove in winter. Otherwise definitely invest in top of the line Down Comforters which must be well care. I am back in US now 20 years and I am so happy that I no longer sad with Home sickness which is real and you must address it best you can. I do not miss Germany at all. They were all seriously all depressed all throughout the 1990's. So they needed 6 week Summer Vacations to cure their depression with Germany. Great Video.

As someone who lived in cold Europe and US I will never seek cold weather. Let's mention weather related depression.
Who cares about your friends of the past?
You need to start your own life.
I understand where you are coming from but I prefer sunny weather despite the beauty of snow.
I prefer warm extroverted people to cold introverts.
Seasons are beautiful but human beings adjust.
I guess it works both ways though the sun is necessary for joy

I understand that things are hard for you. My best friend is Portuguese, she came here to the Netherlands almost 3 years ago. In the beginning she felt lonely, she couldn't really addapt, she didn't want to put too much effort to learn the language cause her stay was not perminent. Now she likes it here so much, she knows the Dutch language better, she appreciate everything what was different to her at first. Now she feels so comfortable here and she is moving back in December.😥
This is no offence towards you, but all the things you are saying has a lot to do with how your mindset is working. Literally everything you find annoying about Portugal could be found on the internet (weather etc).
To me Christmas and winter is the most awful thing ever, so to me Portugal will be nice during winter.
Whatever your destiny is, good luck!!

I spent my first vaca after lockdown in the Azores in March. Experienced every weather imaginable except snow. It was crazy, I thought Calgarys hourly changing weather was bad. .... Because of EU subsidies it was very affordable I was very surprised for an island nation just how affordable it was. And so many expats from🇨🇦&🇺🇸 live there. Most of them returning to look after g'parent that stayed when their adult children left in the 60's. And these gkids that came back to look after g'parent stayed in their retirement. All the ones I talked to told me they get their winter and autumn fix by going back to Montreal Toronto Michigan etc to visit THEIR children.

We were on Terceira....a beautiful place with volcanic pools that blew my mind, and a firehall cafeteria that served great variety for cheap lunch & cheap wine next to a high school that they also used as a cafeteria. I would go back for the cheap wine and cheese and we found great Portugese rotisserie chicken at the super market. Who knew we'd find Portugese chicken in Portugal bahaha...They are in sorry need to train chefs though. Mostly disappointed with dining out. Surprisingly we had the best meal of the trip at the golf course that we got stuck at for four hours waiting on the torrential rain and hurricane winds to stop. It didn't. Only 4 holes done but a great meal and much wine with fellow Canadians and Americans waiting it out.

It might help you to do what I did: spend the winter in Alberta in an rv! I did that 5 years in a row. It got down to -42C and about 4ft of snow on the ground. It was hard on our bodies always being cold, like sleep in your parka and the dog's water was always frozen kind of cold. I was born in Alberta & have experienced many different climates but those winters were brutal, yet sunny. There's not so much rain here, seems the opposite of Portugal for temperature, but the leaves do change in the fall. We're moving to the Braga area though now, to escape the cold. 40 years of it is enough!

It seems that you are seeing Portugal like your final destination, probably it will be better if you see Portugal like a long traveling adventure instead, and a temporary hub from where you can visit other countries in a budget. I know is expensive to travel from Canada or the States to Europe. You are young and have a long life ahead of you but, talk to your partner and set a tentative returning time to Canada, obviously you are happy in Montreal and that's where you should be.

I just watched a YT video (Honeymoon Always) of 2 americans who live in Lisbon, they went back to the US for 6 months and it was different but not totally a good different.
They also talked about the weather in PT and how cold the houses are.
They showed a graph for all year and I was surprised it was almost exactly the same temps all year as the south of Brasil. I think the houses and aptos here are so much more modern and more like the US and not like refrigerators like PT.
Obviously you can live in the north of Brasil and never see cold weather too which some people like.
Seems like a good option for you guys to stay in PT for their summer (May - Aug), then come here for a Brasilian summer (warm south to north) (Sept-May)
So, you don't have to settle, you can have what you want all year.

Yulia ... I am with you. Have been in Brasil since 2018, first in the NE Recife for a couple years- where my wife's family is, 7deg S of the equator, HOT ALL THE TIME, then down to the south of Brasil- really is like Europe down here- full of Germans and Italians with hot and sunny summers and cool stormy winters 50f lows. IF you go further south to Porto Alegre or inland to Curitiba you will find snow.
Being from the Clearwater area of Florida, I miss mostly the hot Gulf of Mexico, can get to 85f in the middle of summer, love swimming then.
Am a Canadian but never lived there probably because it is so damn cold and expensive.
I think a lot of Canadians do it right , spend summer up there and come to Florida for a warm winter.
The only other option that might be even better is to switch hemispheres every 6 months depending on your preference for weather.
You can stay in Florida for the summer, then go to Brasil for their summer too, you get 2 summers.
OR you can stay in the north of the US or Canada for a cold white winter and Christmas, then go to Brasil for their winter that is relatively mild in the south or go to the north where it is very warm all year.
Lot ways you can mix it up to get what you want.
After 4 years down here I am missing things like going sailing, cruising thrift stores for stuff to resell, flying small airplanes, buying and selling used cars at dealer auctions, swimming in very warm gulf water, etc. I think once we go back to the US we will spend a year up there, my wife can make a Brasilian monthly salary working at Wamart in 4 days there ! I can find any number of jobs so i don't use up all my retirement income per month and make more than my wife.
I am NOT a fan of how the US has become but it looks like BIDEN is doing a lot of things to straighten out the US to its once greatness but it's a challenge and the rascists and nationalists will never go away.
Like the old saying from the Wizard ofOz - '' There is NO place like home ! ''
We at least need some that old part of being home for part of our life but not full time. We need a diversion or adventure the rest of the time.

If lack of snow is enough to make you cry everyday, no offence but you need more adversity in your life.
I am currently living in Singapore for well over a year and the weather is always between 31-33c with very high humidity so I am pretty much permanently sweating. There are no seasons whatsoever. Never even occurred to me to cry over it and I am not a particularly strong person.
I really mean this as a constructive criticism, I suggest you look up some people that actually have it tough (poverty, malformation, terminal illness) to feel a bit more grateful of your situation. Having sunny weather is hardly the problem you make it out to be, a bit of perspective can go a long way.

cool story but we're different people, so if I wanna cry about lack of snow, I totally would. I think you should learn more about sympathy and stop devaluing others feelings. cheers!

Haha i get the drift of what you say. I am from India, and the first time I visited Paris many years ago, I was like…why is it warmer here? 😅

😂🤣 Sorry but you are funny 😂
When I travel abroad I have a goal career wise and I enjoy contrasting weather whether it's desert or snowy winter ❄️, different experiences. However I miss only one thing, India. In an year I spend at the least a month in my home town. I enjoy everything world has to offer 🎉🥳

Moved from London to Lisbon area. I have to say I don’t miss the seasons enough for it to be a major issue.
Portugal has summer and winter basically but it a mild climate all year which is perfect for outdoor living (great for kids).
I lived in Holland and enjoyed the summer but winter was worse than the UK and got me down.
If your not enjoying it it’s because its not aligned with your soul and it’s good you have acknowledged this early. It’s good to see a video with real honesty.
Portugal is not for everyone but it’s perfect for me for now. If I was feeling depressed I would leave quickly as it should not feel like a battle and life’s too short.

That's crazy to hear... I HATE seasons... I miss the infinite summery sunny days...I hate living in Canada so much, coming from Brazil... I cant wait to move somewhere else or move back... It is honestly been 5 years of "trying to like it", but there is no way... No culture, no good food, awful weather, cold people, expensive as hell, shitty vacation time, shitty healthcare system, crazy ppl everywehre... idk I just can't like that place.

This is what the Siberian roots say in you, and that's good. So there will be the next country. Maybe closer to the Alps ?
