    I think the draft slot thing is to represent the change of rules, each team gets a draft slot, the highest slots go to the 1st picks and the slots go down in order... if a team goes over their slot in real life they can be forced to pay luxury tax or forfeit future picks... so i think the owner is like "yo, i can't allow you to spend more because i don't want to get taxed or lose future picks"
    Maybe it would be better if OOTP made it so each Owner is more or less lenient with it, like if you got a lenient one he'd be like, "sure spend money out of the budget and l'll pay the tax or lose the picks." or if they were strict they just say no, it's too risky or i don't wanna pay tax on it.

      I get what you're saying, but the new limits aren't related to slot amounts, they are related to how much you budget. If OOTP instituted rules around slot amounts, I'd be all for it.

    Yeah, I've noticed the contract extensions look a lot more realistic.
    From my limited experience it seems that Financial Ambition 'aka Greed' can make a BIG impact on their demands.
    I did a quick test with Gunner (at the 2024 start) for a 10 year deal
    Low Greed (0-40): 22.6 Peak 200 total
    Medium Greed (80 to 120): 24.7 Peak 216 total
    High Greed(160+): 33.5 Peak 284 total
    Greedy players seem to ask for more than generous players will save you. If you want do to long term extensions . . . just forget about greedy players!

    Another thing in this version that I'm not sure is intentional or a bug, which I've even made a forum post about but had no engagement from devs on is pitcher velocity declining at very unrealistic rates and frequency. Seems like half the pitchers in my league will start losing velocity by early 30s, some even in late 20s, and you 'll have guys who averaged 99-101 suddenly averaging 85-87 within 2 years of the start of their decline.
    Most of these instances are not precipitated by injuries or anything of the sort.
    Pitchers chucking 85 mph heaters make up a good portion of the league now

    • @pfholden
      @pfholden  5 місяців тому +1

      I haven't noticed this, but I haven't not noticed it either :). The 85mph thing definitely seems weird. But losing velocity by early 30's seems realistic.

    • @DoctorThrasher
      @DoctorThrasher 5 місяців тому +1

      @@pfholden Velocity starting to decline by early 30s is definitely normal, even some cases in mid to late 20s makes sense sometimes a la Shane Bieber, but yeah, losing 15 mph within even a 5 year span is unheard of

    Definitely agreed about some of the top end free agents prices. They still accept contract lengths that are way lower than real life. Had Soto accept a 40/year for 6 years. No way he would in real life.

    I agree on that draft situation, and of course one then are "forced" to play in commisionar mode. But that's OK since one follow "the rules" anyway. Wish OOTP looked it over perhaps with luxury taxes and that you can "negotiate" last minutes with the owner on paying up and changing draftbudgets. A hard set like this is not good. Then I think on the AI teams. It must be some weird outcome in the draftselections or afterwards in signing some players for the AI run teams. Big future stars might be unsigned depending on how the AI would have sat that draft budget month before the actual draft.

    I actually LIKE the new draft budget restriction. You are gaming the system by not budgeting it ahead of time. Its NOT your money to play with as you like, its the owners money. If you don't spend the money for a specific category . . . he's pocketing that money.
    And it does prevent 'cheating' by selling off random players to raise money at the last second to afford draft picks, etc.
    The point of the game is to make plans and work with them. I like the challenge.
    If you want full control over how you spend your revenue than you can turn off Owner control of budget (League Settings: 'Team Owner controls Budget?'

    • @pfholden
      @pfholden  5 місяців тому +4

      We often agree on things but man, I so strongly disagree that my approach is gaming the system. To be clear, I have money available in my overall budget for the draft. I am NOT spending my entire budget and then gaming the system by offering slot, despite not having the budget room. I have the budget room for every dollar I offer. I do plan out how much I'll spend on the draft, it's just within my overall budget, not the specific budget.
      The way OOTP allocates the same budget for your current year draft to the next year's draft, which impacts $ you have for extensions, is simplistic and unrealistic. It's also unrealistic to think teams in real life don't pivot and change budget plans throughout the year, draft and otherwise. There's simply no way a team would have, say, $20m in budget room, but because the GM didn't tell the owner he specifically planned to use $X of that for draft, the owner wouldn't approve draft expenditures.
      Anyways, thanks as always for the thoughtful comments. This is just one we disagree on :).

      @@pfholden Sorry I didn't mean to disagree so strongly.
      I just don't really mind the hard budget restriction. I like that it forces me to do additional planning and stick to it.
      But I agree, it shouldn't carry over to next year.

      No need to apologize! Haha, I was the one who disagreed strongly. I was just surprised we see this one so differently and wanted to explain myself better. Personally I like the draft budget change this year and I hope it stays. I prefer to play long term term sims (15 / 20+ years), and I feel that this change calling for strict budget allocation helps to add an element of team focus to the game which I like. It is more strategic in the draft deciding whether to blow all the budget on one guy, or spread the cost between several picks, and for me more realistic that I may be priced out as a small market team.

    • @pfholden
      @pfholden  5 місяців тому +3

      In terms of the things you say are more strategic, I think all that applies with the way I budget for the draft too. I can still get priced out, and I still have to decide how to allocate the money.

    I’m playing a giants sim currently and I had a similar problem with the draft budget so I couldn’t sign one of my first rounders. So the next year I increased my draft budget to account for this however the cpu drafted me too impossible guys in the 19th and 20th round and I was able to offer them 7 and 8 million even thought I had already spent my draft budget. Perhaps they changed this in the time of you scheduling the upload because i was able to go into my total money available today.

    That's funny about the draft, it burned me once because of being influenced by your fluid budgets! Which I feel is not gaming the system, I'm a GM with an owner, I make the budget unless he's completely overwhelming. I'm all for the 'backwards' improvements, but remember in 23 when you could hit a trade in a player's history, and it would take you to the correct Transaction in the Transaction Log? That was amazing. And it's been gone for 2 years, dumping you at some random position in the log now. I hate it with the fire of a thousand suns. Besides that, like the game a lot, still has some pieces that need ironing, that's just how it works.

  • @AlecK47
    @AlecK47 5 місяців тому

    I'm OK with the draft budget change, but I do wish that the weird rules MLB actually has were more accurately implemented... which also means factoring in players in their last eligible year and how that would change the AI, demands, etc. I get why it might get pushed to the back burner for a bit, and am not 100% happy with the interim settings, but I get it. The best solution in the end might be an option when you set up the game for "flexible budgets" or "realistic budgets" where you can either play more fast and loose or have a more realistic feel where it's use it or lose it, but given the improvements we've already seen, I can wait for that to be done right. (also I believe that the use it or lose it money gets put back into profits if you don't use it, so owners might up your budget the next year, but I haven't tested it)

    I hate the hard draft budget too. Right now. I'm over budgeting for the draf. I want to see when my excess cash gets returned to my overall budget. I assume it's one I have everyone signed. If not and it extends past the trade deadline. I'm going to use commissioner mode next year
