Thanks for reacting to this, they really need all the help they can get to increase their audience as it is a band that lost 3 of their 5 members and recently got 2 new ones, and a completely new sound. The guitarist Sakura is the founding member and composer, and the drummer and vocalist are new. The drummer Junna is very well known from her YT covers, but the singer Nagi was an amateur vocalist until she joined, she only started singing at 20, thankfully for us as we might have missed such a beautifully colored voice. They just released a new EP called Life Goes On which is a masterpiece, you should really see the live video of a track from it called Hero Time - really highlights all the members' skills. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/-uIGtQNesx0/v-deo.html
HAGANE are the band of teenage guitar phenom SAKURA YOSHIDA. After three members left last year, the infamous drummer JUNNA, and the amazing vocalist NAGI joined. The reborn band is fantastic, with a darker, heavier sound. (Now, with only a single guitar, I imagine SAKURA is multi-tracking the harmony guitars. Not sure what they will do live, although we don’t see another guitarist in the concert footage shot for the other MVs for their new EP. ) Just wait until you hear HERO TIME, which has a Thrash feel, and NAGI’s most impressive vocals. See SAKURA’s UA-cam channel, NAGI’s brand new channel, and JUNNA’s legendary drum cover of Through the Fire and Flames.
definitely double tracking on guitar in the mv - i really love this band with it's revamped lineup and would like to see them add a 2nd guitarist so the live performances would be fuller without a backing track. sakura is great but can't do it alone live. and with another lead or rhythm guitar they could even go to greater heights !
She's using backing track for rhythm part when it's played live. I hope she recruit 2nd guitarist again, two guitars always sound better for this kind of music.
Junna (the drummer) has really found her perfect place in this reconstituted Hagane. She has been a bit guilty of overplaying in past projects, but her high-energy, almost frantic style works perfectly in guitarist Sakura's compositions. Sakura, of course, is one of the very best in this niche (and frankly anywhere...legit virtuoso). Sayaka, the bassist, can indeed shred it up, but mostly chooses not to, and that's deliberate: with so much going on from the guitar and drums, she avoids a cluttered mix by sticking to a massive foundation. And yeah...Nagi. Believe it or not, this is her first performing band project, apparently. Yet she has such a perfectly controlled, rich voice that's both technically sound _and_ filled with emotion. From the live videos I've seen (I think your next reaction should be "Hero Time"), she's got stage presence WAY beyond anything a rookie has any right to possess. What a find! I'm really looking forward to catching a live set sometime soon (I live in Japan). I _think_ that wind instrument is indeed a shakuhachi...but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
Hi David! Thanks for the information, especially on Nagi! She is absolutely incredible! Both Nagi and Junna have revitalized Hagane! The sound of Hagane is diversifying; and evolving into something that is AMAZING! Sakura and Sayaka had to deal with 3 members of their band, quitting at the same time. What has evolved, has become so much better! There's a lot of people out there who think Junna is just a hard-hitting Speed Metal drummer; but she's a whole lot more! I believe Hagane, will give Junna, the the platform to demonstrate the range of her talents! And, from what I'm seeing, from all four of these ladies; it's only going to get even better, yet! David! I know you're having a great time in Sapporo; but if you're ever able to visit San Antonio, come and say "Hello"! I'd love to be able to sit down with you and talk about your experiences! Take Care! Best Wishes! Russ
@@Russ.Murphy It's really an all-time comeback for a band after such huge lineup churn, isn't it? The new roster has fantastic musical chemistry, and I agree there is more to come. Sakura's songwriting has made a big leap forward, and I think that will be key to pushing them over the top. The departed members are doing really well, too. Uyu and Mayto landed in the co-ed metal band Mana Diagram, and their new single "Desire" is a banger. KanaKo has become an in-demand session and support drummer, although I keep thinking they'll make it official with her in PaleNeØ at some point. I recently discovered one factor behind Nagi's awesomeness: although this is indeed her first performing band, she's also a graduate of ESP's (the guitar making giant) prestigious music school. Just being accepted into that school is very difficult, so she obviously had a lot of talent from the get-go. That school would have helped her make the most of it...and we see (okay, hear) the result. If I'm ever in the area, I'll drop ya a DM. Same if you ever find yourself up here in snowy Hokkaido. Thank you for featuring Hagane (pronounced HA-ga-neh). They have to be considered one of the hot, up and coming groups, though they had to go through a major reboot in 2023. They were originally a five-piece with dual leads; they have recently re-formed as a four piece (more on that below). The initial lineup came together in 2018, just as they were all finishing high school. Founding guitarist Sakura had been posting metal covers on youtube since she was 14, and gained notoriety as a technical beast with a taste for ferocious shredding. That is how most of the other band-members found her. Original lineup: Vocal: Chiemi Guitar : Sakura Yoshida (also writes and arranges most of the music) Guitar : Mayto Bass : Sayaka Drum : Kanako Takahashi (b. 2001) In 2019, Chiemi left and was replaced by Uyu. The band released three concert DVDs and a full-length album (“Code 9021”) during her tenure. From that lineup: “Soul Beats”: ua-cam.com/video/k8NTRJ_yTxY/v-deo.html The rhythm line seamlessly melds rock and funk throughout. The guitar solo is classic jazz fusion, but with distortion. The heavy use of minor and diminished scales gives it a vaguely middle-eastern vibe, but jacked up to searing intensity. “Super Villan” ua-cam.com/video/MCqzm0nUxbM/v-deo.html Huge guitar duel, with give and take and a lot of experimental ideas. “Black Cult” ua-cam.com/video/LCheI6-MWhY/v-deo.html From their most recently released album, another with lots of musical ideas, more guitar dueling, and powerful vocals from Uyu. In early 2023, the band announced the departures of three members-Uyu, Mayto and Kanako. They spent the next year rebuilding. They have re-formed as a four-piece, with the already famous Junna on drums. Junna was previously one of the original members of Kakumei (later rebranded as Trident), and has a popular youtube channel where she posts hyperactive solo drum covers of metal songs. New vocalist Nagi has replaced Uyu. This is her first professional gig. Hagane 3.0: Guitars: Sakura Bass: Sayaka Drums: Junna Vocals: Nagi Hagane are clearly playing in a similar space as groups like Mary’s Blood, Bridear, Nemophila and Lovebites-melodic, hard, heavy and technical. Early on, however, they developed their own signature sound, built around exotic scales, syncopated rhythms and the aforementioned high-octane shredding. Their songwriting is mature, far beyond what you should be able to expect from a bunch of people this young. The new lineup have released an EP, “Life Goes On”, with five tracks including an instrumental. Despite not having the dual attack, it looks like they haven’t lost a step-Junna is insane as ever on drums, and Sakura is just on fire. Here are two tracks: “Tengagoken” (official video): (you just watched this) and “Hero Time”, (official live): ua-cam.com/video/-uIGtQNesx0/v-deo.html Other bandmembers: Uyu formed her own band, which largely focuses on covers of other metal groups, especially Babymetal. Kanako is also an elite musician and has been in a couple of bands since leaving Hagane.
