      How come no UA-cam golfer compares MP243 vs. JPX923 Tour? Is the jPX923 Tour relevant?

    By far the best content and unbiased opinion. Love it!
    The amount of time and effort that you put into these for the viewing community is amazing.
    Even though you are trying to shift your path it’s great to see the not so great shots rather than pin hunting like you normally do.
    It’s not realistic to do but would be great to have the same content with let’s say someone around the 7-12 handicap just to see a more array of shots and dispersion. Haha

    My handicap has been going up lately from lack of play. Now a 9 from a 5. New equipment always gets me out more and I’m leaning towards forgiveness with decent looks feel. Maybe the new Ping driver with the 10k and the mizzy 245 is in order😀. Your reviews are the best! By far!!!!!

    Great review! A comparison between 243 and combo of ZX7 and ZX5 would be great as I have the feeling the 243 is sort of a combo set on its own? 🙏

    I hit in and around the center of the clubface for the most part and I have hit both series of clubs a couple of times now. I have a strong preference for the looks of the 243, but when all is said and done, I just cannot find a logical reason for choosing it over the 923. At best the 243 comes near matching the 923 in performance, but never surpasses it. The difference in feel (sound) to me is not near as great as the difference found in the variability of strike. That is, a slight off center strike has a far greater effect on feel than the difference provided by the copper underlay. The 243 is far sexier I concede, but I guess I've finally outgrown that siren call.

      9.8 last summer, now almost 13 because of the winter and I find 243 plenty forgiving. My friend who plays 921 JPX Hot Metal marvels at how straight my shots are, even though he can see and hear that I don't stripe it every time. And the feel is incredible, best this side of a blade. I think if you are a 15 trending down, you can play 243. Just get fit for the right shafts.

      Yes it is hard to imagine how much time is involved for you. I so enjoy your channel and mainly watch it to help me have a good idea on what set of clubs to buy next. At the moment I am playing 2019 Apex Pro 5 thru GW but I find them a bit clicky so I want to replace them. I am keenly interested in 3 Mizuno models, the Pro 243, Pro 245, and the JPX 923 Forged. I have so back issues as many senior golfers like me do so if I am having a bad day with my back which limits my turn I tend to sway a little to protect it from hurting too much. This in turn causes my misses to be marginal toe strikes but also thin strikes so I maybe the Pro 245 or the JPX 923 Forged would be a better fit??? I play to a 1 handicap so I adjust pretty well to my back issues at the moment but I am not getting any younger and my back issues are not going away (bad car accident).

    Stumbled upon this review as I'm looking to upgrade. Started trying to get better at golf about a year before covid. Got fit during covid. Went with Callaway Mavriks, i hit them well, i fluctuate between a 6-8 hdcp. Ive done a ton of research and hit a ton of different clubs at golf galaxy. I settled on the 923s.
    Great review, I've never heard anyone speak negatively about the 923s. They are ordered, can't wait to get them.

    Great job again Jay. I feel like this is a recording! I need to get out and test these against my current irons. Love the look of the Pro especially the 243 as they remind me of my current Honma TR20 but nicer...Keep the reviews coming. I'm going to review your JPX vs Srixon video you did awhile ago but it would be great to see the Srixon compared to the Pro 24X.

      Love my 921 forged as well, I find the lofts on the 923 forged and 245 a bit too strong and also cause gapping issues at the bottom of bag. Not sure where I’d go from here when it comes time to replace them. Hopefully I’m good enough for a whatever the 223/243 equivalent is at that time!

      @@AskGolfNut haha strikes are getting better a work in progress, working on a path change similar to yourself. I just noticed that they changed the lofts pretty significantly at the bottom of the bag on 243 in comparison to 223. Same as 223 down to 8i then 1 degree stronger on 9i, 2 degrees stronger on PW and 3 degrees stronger on GW! 223 lofts were all a degree weaker than 921 forged. 243 lofts are a degree or two weaker than 923 forged except PW is the same loft and GW the 243 is 1 degree stronger than 923 forged. Looks like P790 lofts are the same lofts as the 921 forged I’m used to so that could be a decent option when these wear out.

    Love this channel, Jay, it's brilliant. The thing I'm struggling with is going from old school lofts (Mizuno MP53's) to the new world of GI lofts. I've gone for 921 Tours because they're the same old lofts - I don't want extra distance - absolutely superb clubs but I'm using 7-AW. I'm thinking of going for a 6 and 7 in Hot Metal P for the 'longer irons. You talk about blending all the time but have you ever done a show specifically on how to go about blending clubs? Eg does using a lower loft automatically equate to a 'longer' iron? Would using a HMP 7/28.5dg be the same as a 6 in old money? Is it that simple? Apologies if you've done this already....!

    Great video as always! I am currently playing the 923 forged but have a swing speed of around 93-95 mph. I am a decent ball striker but feel that hitting a 7 iron 190 yards is too far. Is the change in loft and reduction in distance with the 243 or 241 something I should be looking at? Keep up the great work!

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 місяців тому +1

      So with your speed it's fair to assume you don't have an issue with peak heights and distance so it's just the forgiveness which is the factor. If you don't really need the forgiveness that the Forged provides then a weakened set of 243 or even Std 241 could well be the answer, also don't forget the Tour model also could work very well too 👍🏻

    @askgolfnut I currently play the 2020 P770s. I float around a 2-5 handicap index. Tried out the 243s and love them, but am hesitating to make the leap to a more “players” iron. Based on your forgiveness testing do you think I am fine to go for it? Or is it quite a large adjustment out on course switching to a smaller blade? Thanks!

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Zach, in real terms the P770 and 243 irons are basically identical in forgiveness so on that side you may not see any difference whatsoever, in fact in some ways the 243 may out do the older P770 irons. Mizuno have made much more of the smaller blade lengths than the real difference, the change is minimal and that's overstating things. There are irons on the market that are much smaller and noticeably smaller at address so again I wouldn't base any hesitation on that non factor 👍🏻
      If i can answer any other questions you have, don't hesitate to comment 👍🏻

    Coming from a p790 looking for more feel/feedback and control, swing speed is mid to high 80s, at around a 10 handicap, is the 243 a bridge too far? The 245 seems like its still very similar to the p790 and not going to change much other than maybe a smidge more feel? I also have your disease of in to out and going left at the moment...i sympathize :)

      🤣 It's only since doing multiple swing speed tests to further enhance the video review quality of my production. I'm going to do a review soon of "UA-cam has fu**ed my Golf Swing". 🤣
      In all seriousness, if you are coming from P790 and looking to keep as much of the distance but gain some feel and control, then absolutely the 243s would work very well, as long as you are aware of your strike consistency and believe it's tight enough not to need the help of the Hollow Body irons then all is good 👍🏻

      @@nickyplatt78912105243 is more forgiving than the 923 Tour, feel is very good on both. 243 should go a little further due to loft/microslot, but when you get to that level of club its much more about ballflight, spinrate, launch characteristics, turf interaction, workability, etc.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  9 місяців тому +1

      Hi there, the 243 is more forgiving than the 923 Tour although is a different golf club. The Tour is much so like a blade with bladed lofts. So the transition into the 243s would see an increase in distance, a slight reduction in strike feel but a marked increase in forgiveness from that odd wonky strike. You could nullify the distance gain with bending the lofts closer to that of your Tours, depending on your lie angle requirements of course 👍🏻

    • @nickyplatt78912105
      @nickyplatt78912105 8 місяців тому

      @@AskGolfNutmy lie angle is generally a little too flat and usually fit 1-2 degree upright, would that have much impact in bending the 243 lofts to weaken them to similar to the tour lofts?? having hit both is there a big difference in feel from 923 tour and 243?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  8 місяців тому

    I play ZX7 mkii irons and recently bought a set of 243's. I am finding they spin around 700-800 rpm higher, and launch higher, causing me to lose about 7 yards on my 7 iron as an example. Since the lofts are the exact same I am really surprised by this and is messing up my gapping at the top and bottom. Any chance you would be willing to do a comparison between them, or offer your perspective (my swing speed is about the same as yours)? Thanks as always!

    The biggest difference with these clubs are going to be the 8-GW. I feel like that range of the set will be primarily used in a distance iron, especially to get GIR. The 243 are more of a muscle cavity, which aren’t the most helpful clubs to hit
