One small correction is after retiming, the run is officially a 1:35:33. Another crazy thing about this run is his upstairs door touch was a 1:02:24 which is 34 seconds slower than the community best split of 1:01:50 by Weegee. Now combine Suigi's 1:02:24 with the best upstairs (at the time) by Ikori, a 33:38, this run will tie Weegee's 1:36:02. Supposedly getting a 1:35 is nearly impossible unless you get a very low 1:02 upstairs door touch Suigi gets the new fastest upstairs of 33:09 beating Ikori's by 29 seconds! And the record is shaven off by 29 seconds! (Ignoring the decimals) He was 5 seconds behind Weegee's community best TTC split but was way ahead after Rainbow Ride and of course BitS. If Suigi hadn't missed a throw, this would've been a sub 33 minute upstairs. This run was truly the definition of clutching a world record.
This run has all kinds of crazy stats - this run was also more than a minute behind community best split leaving LLL/VC. Simply's WR from 4 years ago had better basement split times. Suigi's upstairs didn't just beat community best upstairs, it beat (his own) best Up RTA of all time by almost 15s.
Suigi is honestly such an inspiring dude. Watching him run this game from UA-cam is what inspired me to run it myself. And I love that he chose this moment of triumph to share his struggles with depression and how it has affected his journey getting here. An amazing runner as well as a strong person. He's got a long, happy life ahead of him with a mentality like his.
Having not grown up with a Nintendo 64, and only having played this game once as a Mario 3D All Stars copy, my main regret about the GreenSuigi saga is that I will *never* comprehend *exactly* how insane his skills really are. I can barely even handle the basic motion in Super Mario 64, and meanwhile here's a guy going for all stars and absolutely bulldozing his way near-flawlessly through the latter 60% of the game with the most aggressive strats anyone takes. I'm amazed at his skills already. I wish I were better at the game so that I could appreciate it even more.
Suigi will take back the 70 Stars WR. I know he can, he only needs to gain 14 seconds. And I hope all the great speedrunners (Parsee, Simply, Weegee, Cheese, etc.) will try the 70 Stars run too.
still sad that Weegee missed the 1:35 barely and in all honesty this was a bit overdue. The moment I saw suigi stream attempts I was like it's over and boom 1:36 skip. Great vid Trey, keep it up.
rly hope suigi knows how well-loved he is. his humility paired with his raw passion makes makes his achievements a highlight of my day, every time i hear about them. looking forward to the day he's concurrently 5 for 5, mf is unstoppable and we love to see it
It's cuz no one cares anymore. SM64 has been non-competitive for a while and all the cool people stopped caring. Liam's first WR was a way bigger event. This record is sussy anyway.
how tf is the record sussy my guy and who cares when a "competetive" era of speedrunning is? Is this run deprived of its value, just because it wasnt in this "era" that ur talking about, when this run is, in fact, so much better than any run in any era of the game? get ur shi together my man
@@sidneyrisk Era changes everything. It's the difference between a time being a WR and it being just another PB. The run is sussy because Suigi's amount of time put into the category and his overall control of Mario simply does not match this time. He frequently fumbles controlling Mario in ways I haven't seen top runners do since 2018. If anyone even still cared, there'd be people checking every little thing, his RNG seed, even down to if the timing and sound of his controller clicks make sense, etc. because his acting during the whole run was very bad.
@@CONCASTx This is such a ridiculously ignorant & arrogant mindset, lmao. Not only is it wrong, because he has had the world record, this is pretty much the equivalent of expressing there's no point in ever playing basketball, because you'll never be Michael Jordan. Please do some maturing.

Pretty much, we haven’t seen this type of dominance in a while since The break through of Carpetless, and Cheese Dominance since the race of 1:38 minute barrier by Cheese all the way back at early 2020 before COVID happened. I’m not fully sure about the anything else that can match cheese dominance other than Suigi’s 1:35 minute barrier being broken, and Shigeru’s 4 catagory dominance in the early days of SM64 all the way back in 2009-12, before pauncae, Simply and Cheese joined in. Mad respects to Suigi for having the 120 star WR for the first time. Let me know if there’s more legend players that I missed. PS: (Cheese is still the goat in my opinion). :) 5:05 I think this time tied Cheese 1:39:17 all the way back at 2018 when he made this WR while grinding for the first 1:38.
I saw the comment saying Sweegee would skip 1:36:00 entirely and was like "ok yeah that makes sense" but indidnt eealize 1:36:00 was the WR, i thought he was still grinding time. Imagine my surprise a few days later when he posted the WR XD
I think "greatest barrier" is a bit of a stretch weegee has consistently been making 1:34 look more and more viable if anything 1:35 was overdue but the fact that it happened like this is nothing short of insanity
i feel like its kinda weird to say that weegee is the only one who could beat the 16 star wr. slip is out there grinding every night while weegee hasnt done 16 in forever
The timer started too early in the very beginning as well. The first frame of the logo should be at 1.33 seconds in but in that 1:37:00 run it was at like 1.48 or 1.49 so there's that extra time to remove. So after retiming it still is a 1:37:00.XX
It must suck to be you with all that internalized shame for being human. Do better and stop projecting your feelings onto the world. Let people enjoy things however they want.

“What did I just do?” Immortal quote.
If someone told me a kid thats younger than the game itself will one day smash all records, i would have laughed.
Suigi sure is a legend
You would be a fool to think that wouldn't be the case considering most speed runners are younger than the game
5 gold splits not 4, incredible record, looking forward to see what he does next!
