I muted this video because the music gave me ear cancer so I don't know if he explained it but what he is doing is cross multiplying the numerator and denominators and then adding their values together. So in the first one 4x1=4 and 3x1=3, 4+3=7. I assume he chose 1 for each fraction because the mental math is easy.

We’re able to grasp the method of problem solving, but our focus lies on surrounding details which in turn easily can distract us from our focus! I’m pretty sure the prof posting the background music with flaws wasn’t intended, but it sure was a good way to sieve those who focus with distractions and those that don’t!
