Dont think he knows too much about drillers offsider. Ive been going for 3 months and you will never be stronger in your life doing this. The job is hardcore. 5-10kg i dont think so... the rods are 20k and im lifting between 50-250 times in 1 go depending how deep you are when you need to change the bit. The tube is 40kg. You dont need to be a gym junkie but you need to be conditioned to hard work. My fingers are 50% thicker than when i started, my wrists are fked every day, common practice for all offsiders is to pop pain killers (neurofen) every start of shift. I heard the same thing about drillers offsiding that its not that bad etc. Its a shit job mate.
@MethewSmeth as an offsider when you're assigned to a driller n he turns out to be a real chunt how do you deal with it? There a chance you get a Windows seat if you get a punch on with them? How do you cope with all the 12 hr days n dealing with pricks non stop?
@nicktubara if they're a chunt make sure you don't talk about it to anyone, I learnt that the hard way. There are offsiders at the bottom then drillers then site supervisors then somewhere in the food chain someone above supervisor < ask this person for a site shift and they should ask your supervisor about you and if word is that you're a good worker then they should be happy to move you. I was passed around 5 drillers all of whom I worked on well with until my permanent driller who was an old cunt. Just asked the operator for a site shift and that was the end of it. Remember that if you've got a position it most likely means someone has left.
Just a personal question, perhaps you have a video on this already, sorry if there is one. Hypothetical... You mentioned Kalgoorlie, I am aware of all the mines there etc... in terms of living... what are the pro's and con's of living IN town, or living in Perth and flying in?. Is either option more attractive to an employer? and is either option going to be better for personal mental health etc when you need to relax after a week on etc?. Just interested in what you think, I know it is a personal thing. But looking at this as something I consider down the track. Cheers. PS. I am just getting back into your courses. How life can change your path is the strangest thing, anyway sorry to waffle, cheers again.
These are some of the videos I have done on relocating which covers what you are asking www.youtube.com/@AustralianMiningforNewStarters/search?query=relocating
@@AustralianMiningforNewStarters you have always been so thoughtful with replying, thankyou, I know everyone has things going on, and appreciate you replying back always!
No sorry, you need to be in the country (Australia) before the employers will look at you and they want mining experience or knowledge, machinery experience won't be enough, if you have a look at the videos on the channel it explains what the employers are after Hope this info helps
Just watched this video to the end. Thankyou, good tips good tips as always. Friggen Hump day today, yes! Enjoy the rest of your week.

1 more thing is that a lot depends on who your driller is. Its only you and them for 11 hours a day for 2 weeks.
@@MethewSmeth tx for that info buddy

Are there companies that hire from out of country? Experience with machinery and all that, just don’t live in NZ or AU yet.
