@workensmart Yes when the cam disengages it stops on the exhaust lobe and holds the exhaust valve open. There is also a friction brake on the cam that holds the cam from turning while it's free wheeling.
Horse power is not the issue, torque is, horsepower is a false number based on rpm , and other factors ,, but a engine like this will be very powerfull indeed. Them flywheels must weigh several hundred pounds ,,.

beautiful machine.... thanks for uploading.
This engine makes 35 hp at probably around 250-300 rpm. A modern car, or vacuum as you say, would need to go at very high rpm to achieve high hp.
runs great! looks like a modern fabricated head and camshaft?
sounds like my cat coughing up a hair ball
merveilleux, meme si l' on ne comprend pas tout, c"est de la belle musique et de la belle mécanique
what wonderful sounds as its misses.
@DeutzMAH320 I'm with you on that! Wish it was mine too.
I have had some neat things, this beats all of them
nothing like dirty engine porn. thats a nice engine.
there's more Horsepower in my vacuumcleaner!

It's misfiring pretty badly....
It's a Hit and miss. It's not miss firing.
rkshirey No. It's also misfiring. It's trying to go off but doesn't. Pay closer attention.
tartredarrow That's not really a miss fire. Sounds like an intake to me.
rkshirey The cam is the give away. If the cam is rolling and it doesn't ignite, that's a misfire.
At about 4:30 it misses about 4 in a row.
