It could be they didn’t include one in my package in error, but more and more companies are leaving out the power supply these days. Either I was unlucky or you were lucky 😉.
I am confused as to what the Line in option does on it? I am looking for something that will stream my turntable to my airplay 2 devices. Any ideas? Thank you for your review and great video.
As I understand it, you should be able to feed an appropriate audio signal into it, and then through the speakers it’s connected to. This ‘should’ allow you to send that signal to other Wiim or Arylic devices within the respective apps, but it won’t work that way with AirPlay 2, as it’s a ‘one way street’ - AirPlay audio is sent to the WiiM, you can’t send audio from the Wiim to other AirPlay devices.
Great video. Do you know if you can create a group inside of AirPlay? I have an AirPlay 2 soundbar, and would like to have it grouped with my in ceiling kitchen speakers to play kitchen audio.
Hi, unfortunately unlike other HomeKit devices, like bulbs etc, you can’t create a group from separate AirPlay 2 devices. The only option of this type is with HomePods, where you can create a stereo pair. There may be ways to create an automation that can be activated via Siri that allows the audio stream to multiple devices using AirPlay 2, but it’s not something I’ve tried myself.
If your soundbar has a digital input, which a quick search suggests it does, then yes, you should be getting better sound. It does also depend on how the WiiM is streaming though, so if you stream to the WiiM from your phone using Bluetooth, and then to the WiiM to the soundbar, it would sort of defeat the purpose of the digital connection.
If this connects to a CD receiver with standard passive speakers, will the music sent to the Wiim via the app from Amazon, Synology NAS or whatever source, come out via those speakers? I don’t really want to get another pair of wireless or Bluetooth speakers for the NAS when there are decent speakers teaches to the current system. Certainly that’s how Wiim sell it on their website, but it’s not clear how you connect to a legacy system.
As I understand it, as long as your receiving device is - or contains - a powered amplifier, then once the WiiM is connected to the device in question using any of the wired connection options available, the audio streamed from your preferred service will come out of the speakers connected to your device. If you already get audio from your CD receiver coming out of your speakers without any additional equipment, then the WiiM is no different.
It’ll probably be better, but it’s hard to say for sure, but it depends on the mobile device you connect to your Denon. It would certainly be more convenient.
thanks a lot for your explaining the feature of this Wiim Mini. I am using, currenly, my Samsung S22 Ultra as a music source for a pair of active/powered speakers, via Bluetooth 5.0, which deliver 24bit/96kHz quality as so stated. My streaming source of Android S22 is Apple Music, which now offers Hi Res music pieces. I am not sure if (1) Wiim Mini works with Apple Music App on Android, and (2) could the sound improves assuming that the Wiim Mini gets directly the Apple Music via WiFi rather than from my Samsung phone. Any advice?
Hi, after trying a couple of quick tests with an Android phone I have here, in Apple Music, it seems only Bluetooth is allowed as a connection between the phone and other devices. I guess AirPlay (essentially a WiFi connection) is limited to iOS devices. I can ‘cast’ from android to devices like Google minis etc, but for some reason the Wiim Isn’t showing as device option.
@@homekitnews thanks for your prompt answer. What you said is exactly what I guess. As Bluetooth is the only option, the Hi Res music quality depends on the version of Bluetooth (5.0 or above is good enough to me) equiped with both receiving device (in my case a pair of powered speakers) and sending device, and how the sending device works and streaming product. In my case is a Samsung S22, an Anriod system allowing up to aptX Active quality, with Apple Music as the source. Since Apple Music has upgraded itself to stream up to 24bit/96kHz in a ALAC format, and Samsung S22 is able to send via a similar quality, i.e. aptX Active to speakers, it seems to me that is so far the best solution I can have via Bluetooth. I do not know any device that have WiFi or Earthnet connectivity as the input receiving streaming from Apple Music, at the same time, having screen on itself or via an App using mobile phone to control and select music pieces. After all, I am already taking advantage of a combination of upgraded Apple Music and the last version of Andriod with bluetooth 5.0 for Hi Res music streaming.

I tried to get it to play my old Garard AT6 turntable using phono to the aux in 3.5n9n the wiim mini but no sound, I thought this thing had a pre amp? It said that on Amazon description
I just looked at the Amazon listing and couldn’t find any mention of a preamp, although it does show a diagram of devices plugging into it, including a turntable.
I have a pair of HomePod 2 and currently stream Tidal to them over Airplay - this kills the iPhone's battery. I want to introduce the WiiM into the equation and use the Tidal connect on the WiiM to stream the music from Tidal to the HomePods over Airplay - thus removing the hit on my phone battery - is this possible?
I read that many of these devices have a rather weak output signal towards the amp you plug it in. Low gain in general does not result in the best output sound dynamics. How does this device operate w.r.t. that subject? Does it have a powerful output, comparable to any average component in your stereo, lik f.i. a tuner or CD player?
Hi, I only really focus on the general use cases and the smart home aspect of it, so I couldn’t really give you any detailed information on the audio quality beyond my own basic experience in using this, sorry. You may want to check out the Pro version that has been released, however - homekitnews.com/2023/01/09/wiim-pro-audio-receiver-released-with-airplay-2/
Although you could technically plug headphones into the Wiim Mini via the Aux Out, most aux outs do not have built-in headphone amplifiers. Headphones usually have much higher impedance than speakers, so the sound may be very low when using headphones with an aux out. You might need a separate headphone amplifier to get adequate volume.
The type and quality of the power cable will have no effect on the sound quality, but the USB plug should be powerful enough to provide enough electricity to the unit - 5V, 1A.
I guess you could use this with a subwoofer, as long as you have cables that fit it, but I’m not sure if there are specific requirements to drive subwoofers, that an audio out on this doesn’t have. The Arylic A50+ has a dedicated sub woofer output, but then it’s only Airplay 1 - ua-cam.com/video/TUSnVa8Vd5g/v-deo.html - maybe Arylic make something that is suited for subwoofers and is AirPlay 2 enabled though.

There was a humming sound that was prominent between tracks. The volume on the Amp also had to be turned up to get half decent sound quality. Hope the Viim Mini does not give the same problem . Let me know what you think .
Hi, thanks for the feedback, but I have to be honest and say whilst I know my music (when it comes to Jazz funk, Soul, fusion etc), I can't claim to be an audiophile in the traditional sense. You won't find Afro Elements music on Spotify, only Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Bandcamp. Still, if you liked what you heard, I'd be happy to send you some of the Afro Elements catalogue for free (seeing as its my music). As regards Rodney Franklin - very under-appreciated in my opinion.
@Atelier I don't know the Belkin Bluetooth device, but the Belkin Soundform Connect I mention in the video is actually not bad at all and uses WiFi (2.4 or 5GHz), plus it has come down in price to under US$60 on amazon, so it's actually a lot cheaper than the WiiM. Both are good though, and I can't say I've noticed any distortion or high-pitched frequencies.

I can't seem to find a diagram showing various possibilities. My amp just busted. It was connected to a Russound impedance control switch with 4 multiroom zones. The amp will bust again if I replace it. The problem is too many speakers and those impedence switches still strain the amp. If I use wiim do I have to buy one amp per zone AND one wiim per zone?
