I enjoy your way of reviewing cars, Bob. The everyday chit-chat about traffic and other road users. The occational silence in your talks. The "pop-into-my-mind" thoughts and comments that you make up as you go. Personally, I find your review-style very relaxing, down-winding and casually unscripted - in a very good way! It comes off as a honest and personal vibe. I think that's a rarety nowadays. Keep up the good work!
Yup Bob, it was your original review of the Octavia and further review of the pre-FL in '16 that made me happy that I pulled the trigger on a RS. Well 4 years on the RS is gone to find a new home with only 30k miles on the clock. What's replacing it, a new 1.0TSI Octavia Style in its place again thanks to your review. Family has now taken priority over speed, however I did load up on €4k of options. So thanks for the reviews Bob, they do make a difference 👍👍
Bob In the UK we now have 'Smart' motorways, which are anything but. More often than not speed is limited to 50MPH (80KPH) we have had more accidents and deaths in the five years they have been forced upon us, than in the preceding thirty years, travelling at 70 MPH.
Anyone with half a brain could tell that having cars flying along the hard shoulder with no refuge except for tiny parking spaces every few miles is a bad idea, but they just keep building them and don’t seem to be listening. There is a petition against them on the official government petition website.
You said the truest things on the motorway 😂👍👌 I was laughing so much they're exactly what I say as well, especially when I pass an electric car in my diesel 😂
Great review Bob and Skoda are still nailing it with the Octavia. Love the motorway section 😂. Smaller wheels rather than those 19” wheels with rubber bands for tyres would eliminate much of that road noise.
Could see myself in one of those Bob. Great review. One of those cars that has a bit of everything to make if fully functional and fun. Diesel still has a purpose, Nox versus c02... Better for environment if we keep what we have going for longer rather than price us out of diesel in Ireland. Cheers. 👍
Dear Bob... Thank you for the extra 4 minutes! 😊 Can't believe the rear wiper is an optional extra rather than standard on a hatchback Nice looking car and the diesel version being cheapest makes a nice change too Loving some of the new shots included, rear window, mirror shots etc. 👍
We used to have a petrol vRS estate, awesome car, and was perfect "surrender car" moving away from roadsters to having 2 kids. Stuff just worked and had lots of little handy nooks and crannies. Grand on the motorway and fair on the bends, enough heft to pull a caravan and and the boot space! Lovely car.
Thanks for the Review. I like the behind the scenes part at the end, that's a good place to put it. I hope you do more of these, seems engaging with the reviewer (you) which should be good as people will come for the car but stay (come back) for the reviewer!
Bob just move the air vent control on the driver side completely to the left and it'll shut off. On the passenger side move the air vent control to the right and it'll shut off. Same with the rear vents. As for the switches beneath the screen, press once for what ever you want to change, do the change on screen, then press the switch again and you're back to the previous screen you were on. What I do hate though is the fact that every time you start the car from a stop over you have to reset the climate control back to manual and sync, why couldn't this have been the default setting instead of Smart AC. Yes you can use voice control but I'm damned if Laura will listen to me, it's like a comedy show on a bad marriage, just don't get on. BUT, we do love driving it and it seems to be softer on the road around town than the last model even on bigger rim's. Thanks as always Bob. P.S. or go into Climate control press Classic AC and turn off the side vents completely.
I have not seen one review yet mention what the 'complicated cupholder' in the back is. The square section is for a tablet holding accessory that can pivot towards either rear passenger. It's the same part as used for the headrest tablet holder (SV0 061 129). It's nice they give you that option considering the sports seats can't accommodate the Skoda Smart Holder Headrest Adaptor.
I saw a black Ranger just like that there around that spot there, on the hard shoulder behind a car, with red and blue lights flashing in the rear lights. Careful now 👍👍
Well lad.. I've a 2016 2ltr RS. Do you think it'd be worth remapping it?? Basically is it safe for the car and would I actually get much noticeable power from it?? Thanks lad
@@na-dk9vm it's totally safe if you go to someone reputable like Goldens for example. Also I would stick with Revo stage 1 as any higher and you may need to change the clutch.
I have this in moon metallic white since Feb, best version yet, this is my 3rd Diesel Vrs since 2015, the diesel does have a 4 wheel drive option available Bob, well so I read online?, my first automatic gear box ever, did you use the shift paddles?? nice little feature in the right display of torque boost, mine has hit 430 on few occasions, anyway nice video from fellow kildare town man, stay safe
Is it still wise to buy a used diesel these days ? I’m seriously considering one of these on a 20 plate maybe a 70 plate and the diesel would be my preferred choice but you have to think of selling it on in a few years . Thoughts ??
Hi Bob I'm a big fan of your car reviews always watch all your stuff. So with the new skoda octavia mk4 have they fixed the uncomfortable dsg or is it the same
Have had 2 vrs octavia (previous geberation) and loved them. 1 was an estate 4x4 and went like stink....couldn't fault as it provided great value and functioned great as family car...bikes kids etc etc....as you say always worth a look 👍👍
Got caught up in a crash while driving my 2019 Superb Sportline. Heavy damage. So have a Velvet Red Octavia RS on order for July. Looking forward to getting it.
I bought a skoda 2.0 190 tdi dsg sel executive estate and its fantastic. 800 miles to a tank and it averages 57 mpg .I don't think I will be getting an electric car any time soon .who wants to plod along worrying if I've got enough power and range left in my batteries. I can drive from London to Germany and back on one tank of fuel and that trip can be done in 24 hours , I need only to stop to use the loo and I'm back on the road .the skoda can travel 14 hours none stop and cover so many miles with ease . I dont think an ev vehicle can travel to Germany and back on one charge and still have range left in the batteries. My skoda will do 146 mph flat out on the autobahn and still do 35 mpg .if I need fuel its only 5 minutes and I'm back on the road .I dont have time to waste when I'm on the road to stop and plug in my car . There is only 24 hours in a day and during my working day I need all of them .so I will stick with diesel power .
12:04 drove that section of road a few days ago and it's a disgrace for a new road surface. As you say Bob it's bumpy and drainage is appalling. Why in Ireland can we not build roads properly?
Informative review Bob and unusual pricing on the diesel 🤔 is it the fact people are put off now with the mere mention of diesel.! As Green is king 🙄 Great car to drive.
I had toyed with a VRS estate for a while before I got my Superb and wanted the 4x4 in it but got a 4x4 L&K superb instead. In the U.K. spec it has it available but only is the Diesel engine.
So the VRS was never called VRS by Skoda? , its just a logo that looks like a "V"? I have that pleather in my Superb taxi. Wearing really really well 4 years and 215,000Km later, still looks great.
Just looking at the configurator on Skoda website today and the car starting price for Diesel is now €47,824. Hefty increase since the time of this review
Lot of folks don't use their mirrors and have no notion of what's behind them... really frustrating for us that do alot of miles and know how to use the roads. Even if you move over for someone, they'll sail on by with out acknowledging your good deed, no manners at all.
I'm sure fans here will disagree but, diesel doesn't suit the vrs.. not because of performance but feel.. a a sporty car is just so much better with a free revving, not nose heavy, petrol.
Just to give a heads up I think it would be more logical to buy something like an astra. For example 2016 vauxhall astra elite nav has 200bhp and top speed of 145mph for £21,000 (I cant remember exactly how much). We have one and it's a bit of a sleeper considering it's not a sporty hot hatch just more of an executive trim
I had a 16 gtc with 200bhp. A great car, cruised along, and the gtc is a great handling car. Though in 19 I swapped to a Leon ST FR. Needed an estate, wanted a Vrs but they dropped the horrid four light face-lift. In 19 the lean ST (estate) FR is better looking than the Vrs estate.
I am buying a new car. This three cost the same in my country. Which one would you pick? Skoda Octavia vRS 200HP diesel BMW 3 150HP diesel Audi A4 150HP diesel
I do like this car, expensive yes but a great car and it's diesel! Oh how I marvel at it! Derv is where it's at for me and always will be! As we say in Northern Ireland, now you're suckin' diesel!
Can you not toggle sport on/off, by pulling/clicking the auto selector backwards like on other DSG boxes. That's how my 2019Leon ST FR 2L tsi, works. I never press the mode button. I actually chose the Leon over the Vrs, as in 19 skoda did that horrific four light face-lift. Otherwise I'd have a Vrs now.
hi Stephen, yes thats how it works, pull back auto selector and it will go into sport mode in any of the variants, and push forward and it will return to mode you had it in
@@AlanCulletoncullya I thought this would be the same. So the mode select set up here isn't a issue. I never put mine in eco mode, feels horrid. Use normal most of the time then flick it into sport when I want to overtake or hit the country lanes. So the 'shifter' select method works perfectly.
@@StephenButlerOne yes it works fine, My bad earlier where I said pull back to select sport and I meant to say pull back again and it will return to previous mode, drive it mainly in normal mode and then sport mode same as yourself, but will use eco when traffic to Dublin for work gets heavy again, 👍 I would like to be able to click mode button and have it set to default for sport mode, be nice option @skoda 👌
