The engine was produced by Standard Motor Car Company with an OHV head conversion specified by SS Cars for this application. The OHV allowed the engine to develop 65 bhp from 1776cc which gave the car a top speed of about 75mph. This was quite adequate and in line with other cars of the period. This particular car is very original and in very fine operating condition. If one wanted a bit more oomph, there was the 2.5L and 3.5L 6 cylinder cars to choose from. Immediately after the war, this car was presented to the public largely unchanged. Though a baby Jaguar, it was the bread and butter car for the company, keeping the cash flowing in.
From the country that made the Spitfire and Sea Fury, an unbelievably small motor. Had the same motor in my Hillman Avenger. It was pathetic on a good day.

Big car, small engine, probable engine and gearbox made by Henry Meadows.
