I think the biggest thing to take from this is just how much content Michael makes. I mean geez dude, I had no idea. Great job, keep it up.

Your channel is a breath of fresh air. An example is that NO ONE warned me about how bad NECA figures were as all I saw was glowing praise. Then, I ended up buying around $500 worth of their toon TMNT stuff only to have nearly half end up with broken joints or other major QC issues. I wish I had watched your videos earlier as even to this day, most toy UA-camrs lick their boots and never bring up their issues. I really appreciate your views and I think most of what you are saying is just honest and what a lot of us are thinking as well.
Best review UA-cam channel, not even a discussion. No need to explain or apologize to anybody! Proper analysis always upsets the “everything I like and think is the only right opinion” crowd. Always happy to see a new Retroblasting video on UA-cam, keep crushing it in 2022!

I have to agree with you about all the fanboys getting their feelings hurt because someone is critical about their favourite character or toy.

yeah i think somewhere in the internet world people got confused on "NEGATIVE" vs "HONEST".
My takeaway from this video is that this channel has made ~60 (!) videos this year on a wide range of topics and in various styles and viewpoints and each one has been entertaining or informative on some level. Absolute fucking kudos to Retroblasting all around.
So the math don't lie. 4X positive v. negative. AND I want to say something here for the record. Me designing and making 3D playsets and toys? It's your fault.
Seeing you showcase makers like Tom and Stan Solo for the past few years got me excited about the possibility of the maker community. I had a couple of 3D printers, and had been printing models off Thingiverse. Eventually I was inspired to design my own stuff. And then... We met at JoeFest 2021.
You said, "I've been trying to find someone who can..." You know.
And I decided, heck, that someone could be ME.
Hence, Bespin World. Soon to be revealed in its entirety to the world. All inspired by your positivity and passion. Your love for vintage. Your love for TOYS and the joy they bring people of all ages.

The Firehose of Fun video gets recommended to me every other day, even though I've watched it like 3 times. It is kind of hard to stop watching. You did a great job on that one.

I've always found your content interesting and sometimes hilarious(Frame Job was the funniest thing I've seen all year). I love the fact that you always give your honest opinion of toys that you review and I've never found any of your content Totally negative. Thanks for being you and thanks for giving us Iconicon during this tough year. Oh and also thanks for all the great channels that you guys have recommended from Chasing 80s to Valaverse to Analog Toys and all the rest they have greatly brightened my youtube experience. Michael, the thing I admire most in your videos besides your sense of humor and detailed Analysis is your very genuine integrity. I have only been a subscriber for a few months now but I have grown to love your videos. Hey Michael I really enjoy your channel and content. On one hand, I feel that it is a sad day when content creators have to defend their content against people's perception of it. No matter how many times you state your intent behind making a video, there are always going to be people who CHOOSE to see it as negative. Unfortunately, it zaps the joy of sharing your interests with others. On the flip side, I can see how a casual viewer, or someone who hasn't watched many of your videos, can perceive some comments or statements as being negative. Like any other interaction, once you're around an individual, or are exposed to them enough, it becomes evident when they are joking and/or being sarcastic. Keep putting up great content bringing back fond memories of growing up in the 80s.

In my opinion, the casual viewer would
think that Michael is the guy who "hates on everything" because of his perceived confrontational online "voice" in the internet. But I think its just the fact that he is firm about honesty and that he confronts and does not back down from trolls and bullies in forums, social media and other sites.

I can hear the goal posts moving now. "Oh, sure his videos are positive, but his comments on his posts/tweets are always combative and negative." You literally can't win. I have fond memories of the first retroblasting video I ever saw, which was you cleaning and restoring a Millennium Falcon. Of course, I don't always agree with your thoughts, some of the things you say, sometimes the way you respond can come acros as a bit harsh. But, and this is the thing that so many people seem not to understand: I AM NOT YOU. Intelligent, well-meaning people can disagree. You get this and I appreciate it. How creepy would it be if everyone agreed on everything? No thanks. Your channel is consistenly high quality and is among my favorites on UA-cam. Happy Holidays (or Merry Christmas, or Happy Lifeday, or whatever). You're a good dude.
On a positive note my favorite retro blasting moment was when you purchased the chrome plated gi Joe ship at a con and the you looked like a gleeful little kid. It was awesome. I also love your style of humor. Thanks for the content. It is appreciated.

First and foremost I just want to say that I appreciate the effort of each video and the channel as a whole. I do miss the regularity of the retro cartoon and toy line reviews but, that is neither here nor there. I'm writing because I will not be able to join you Livestream tomorrow (12/17/21) but I do have a comment for you to chew on. I'm in my 40s and grew up with Star Wars. Films, toys, bed sheets...all of it. Luke is my guy. My son is 27, and grew up with the prequels. I hated them on my first several viewings. But his guys are Anakin and Obi-Wan. My daughter is 10 and loves the sequels. I was let down by them at first viewings. Rey is her, er, gal. My point is that shouldn't we celebrate that Star Wars became generational and not just bash the lesser films? That my son and daughter can each have a character to aspire to or be inspired by, to have this world or universe opened to them to share as we did as children, to see the joy that I once carried was or is in them now makes me enjoy ALL the films. Our rose tinted glasses sometimes make it hard to separate ourselves from the current trends. The original trilogy will always be my favorite, it's just better. But I know get similar joy watching the others because I can almost see it through their eyes. Just my opinion, love to hear yours.
First of all you're gonna love 2022, because the retro cartoon/toy two-parters are coming back with a vengeance. To your question - I have no problem with people who like things I don't. Where I get grumpy is when they believe their derivative follow up is superior to the originals that made their derivation possible.

What people say as negative consider if you only listen to toy channels who give positive reviews and not personal opinions it’s not a channel it’s a advert for toy companies to plug you more of their products no matter how bad they are Michael always gives a straight opinion which his channel does better than most

Negativity? To be fair, there's been a lot to be negative about over the past year. If it wasn't for the LOLZ we got out of the negative things by roasting them, we'd all be as sad and despondent as the Black Pill crowd.
In a world where "everything is awesome" it's refreshing to hear well thought out critiques. I can understand where folks who grew up in a "zero gravity environment" and were told they were mommy's special little angel on a daily basis could misconstrue Michael's well thought out critiques as that evil nasty awful word known as negativity.

Who in their right mind watches a channel just to complain? I know open debate can be a very good thing for growth, but if anyone is here to troll then maybe you need to get a different hobby. Retro pop culture is about reliving happy times not hating those who enjoy it.
Thank you! The art or skill of "discussion" is something we all need to learn or acquire...one does NOT have to agree with me, but as intelligent beings we SHOULD be able to handle hearing a different point of view without descending into knee-jerk name calling, vitriol or childish aggression. Well-mannered debate or discourse keeps communication open and allows for "ah-ha" moments where surprising points of accord may suddenly appear. It also allows participants to feel that they are being "heard"...which again keeps things more civil and more productive. I truly believe that Facebook and Tik-Tok have become some of the worst opinion platforms ever...sadly, no true follow-up discussions are really possible there.
As one of the relatively rare people who has been a viewer/supporter of Retroblasting from almost LITERAL day one, (yes, I have basically BEEN THERE since The Thundercats video, and when Retroblasting was 'Plastic Fantastic', etc...!), 2021 has probably been one of Retroblasting's MOST POSITIVE years in terms of content! So even though Michael doesn't have the time to go through almost a decade's worth of content with this video, as a WITNESS who has been on the Retroblasting ride since thr beginning, I can testify that Michael is straight up speaking facts!! Case in point: I work in a hospital. And his videos have actually been a HUGE boost to morale for not only me, but for many of the health care workers at my facility as well! Retroblasting is literally helping a number of us through the pandemic!! And I don't think you can GET more positive than that!
I've been WATCHING RetroBlasting since DAY ONE too. It's DEFINITELY not ALL about being critical...it's ALL about THE passion!

It's like when Michael says "I'm working on the script for (such-and-such) video...." I'm often like "Script?😕 Everything you and Melinda talk about is so genuine and passionate, that it doesn't feel 'scripted' in the least! You and Melinda are so eloquent, yet natural, that it feels UNscripted!" (And speaking of eloquence: Every fourth or fifth video has Michael expanding my vocabulary! e.g. I still try to use "nomenclature" or "verisimilitude" on a semi-regular basis! 😄 Hahaha)
Haha me too! Back in the days of -ehem- "Thundercats: Something Something Kitties" the Star Wars, Wheeled Warriors, and Lazer Tag skits, I also remember Classics in 2 (3?) Minutes. Some of Michael's ideas didn't catch much attention back then, but they did get developed into new formats.

People use the word negative to describe Retroblasting videos? They keep using that word, I don't think they know what it means.
I don't 100% agree with/like all your videos but I respect your honesty Michael and I like how you always talk about the behind the scenes issues with action figure collecting, some people (like me sometimes) hate the negative videos because they are in denial and don't want to admit the bitter truth, keep doing what you're doing dude we need people like you in this community.
My man, I like your content. I'm relatively new to your channel, but you seem to be spending a lot of time giving the haters their due and talking about them. Can't please everyone, just make videos how you want to make them. People are going to gripe no matter what so who cares. P.S. Sorry Star Wars is essentially dead.

As I said, I've had to deal with them since 2012. This isn't a recent burden. If you're new to the channel, you might wanna research what happened regarding a certain Sail Barge and then you'll see that I'm not the problem in this dynamic. There are reasons I have to engage. This isn't a situation where some stranger got in my face at a grocery store and I'll never see then again. This is a different animal, man.

I don't know if you will read this. But in the spirit of Christmas you have sometimes to understand that you have an international (non English speaking) audience. And we tend to use very formal vocabulary that can be misunderstood sometimes or wrong translated. Don't take it immediately as an attack to you. It happen to me one and was very uncomfortable, in special when I was by your side supporting your argument

Haslab videos could've been edited shorter where the criticism would be fine, but there's some parts where you repeat yourself or make it about you seems negative.
Maybe they're like me and not watch the live, repair or unboxing videos so the negative looks more than the positive.
I’ve always believed that negativity is a byproduct of realism… I don’t think you can have one without the other.
I’ve resonated with Michael’s opinions on a lot of things, and his dry humor stuck with me ever since I first came across RetroBlasting through the “Firehose of Fun” video, which I believe to be the clearest dissertation on Disney Star Wars I’ve ever seen. I hardly subscribe to anyone on UA-cam, but RB has earned my subscription.
I’m not trying to blow smoke up your tailpipe here, I don’t agree with everything you say, but I think you have a good handle on your own flaws and for that I respect you.
My friend, I'm a big fan with a word of advice. Let go of worrying about your detractors. Ignore this stuff. It doesn't matter. Your last three videos have been about making peace with dummies. Just have fun with toys and pretend others perceptions don't exist. The more you focus on them, the more you lend them credence. Let go of trying to have a legitimate discussion with the illegitimate. It is less fun to hear you defend positions rather than watch you share your love of your toys and position. If these videos debunking detractors is helping your channel then have it. But as someone who watches your channel to live vicariously as you play with toys I can't afford, I can't watch another video of you defending yourself from ghosts.

Honestly, the Firehouse of Fun video is CONSTNATLY in my suggested video list. IDK how much of that is my watch habits, and how much of that is Retroblasting's "algorithm" impact, but, that definitely lends itself to a snowball effect fo the vid's success, I think.
It still dumbfounds me that there is so much drama in toy collecting. With everything so divisive such as politics, cultures clashing, and everything else going crazy in the world, if anything, toys should bring us together or at the very least, be the one place we can come for some peaceful camaraderie. I really wish we could just enjoy the hobby and move on…
I feel the same way. That's why I love going to Toy Conventions.
Think the drama comes more from different personalities on media Not those in the hobby.

As someone who is not heavily invested in modern or vintage toy collecting and has been watching this channel for years due to the high quality content on vintage Star Wars and GI Joe for the nostalgia hit and great insights you bring, I find all this dramatic crap commenters and viewers put you through to be absurd beyond belief. Know that there are people out here like me who really dig your content. You do great work. Keep doing your thing, Michael.

At least half of the negatives are talking about topics everyone in the the hobby can agree on, thus not negative.
Liked your videos both positive and critical. I find them informative, smart, and entertaining. Your videos were some of the reasons I got into collecting more G.I. Joe and more recently MOTU: Origins. Love the video on Final Faction and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on wave 2 and the Arrow ATV.

I for one subscribed simply because you did genuine critiques coming from a sincere love of the hobby. Hey it's your channel and you do all the work ( scripting, filming, editing etc) if others have something different to say then they should put the work in to share that with others.

I don't know what some people expect from Retroblasting, and other channels for that matter. It has always been, and remains, a channel that reviews toys, films, merch, TV series, etc of a certain vintage, and provides their opinion about them, as well as loads of information that most of us didn't already know. These intellectual properties obviously vary wildly in nature, stature, and quality, and the review will reflect that. Some reviews will be very positive, others won't. The only way to produce exclusively positive videos is to either lie about the quality of poor products, or avoid featuring them altogether. I think that would quickly become too saccharine for most people, and a channel that is essentially one long gush-fest about a certain topic is surely more suitable for children, not people in their thirties and forties like most of Retroblasting's viewers are.
I think what some people might be referring to when criticising the perceived negativity is 'grudge videos' - videos where there's been some drama between either Michael, Melinda, or one of their friends or acquaintances (or indeed a complete stranger) and some angry keyboard warrior with an opinion and a chip on his shoulder. Michael has frequently mentioned these types, and we all know the internet as a whole, whether it's youtube, facebook, instagram, twitter, or whatever, is awash with these cretins who just have to be heard in order for them to feel important. All online communities have them, and the toy collecting community is certainly no exception. Personally, I would never run a youtube channel for this very reason, and I find it incredibly childish when I come across it. That kind of 'soap opera grudge' video I do find tiresome, not an honest review of a terrible product. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you're not justified in making these videos, and I appreciate that a channel with this amount of views must get more than its fair share of grief that we never even hear about. I'm just trying to offer a possible explanation why some people keep making this accusation. And like I said, I couldn't do it! :)

I get the feeling that what a lot of people see as "negatively" from Michael is just him being passionate about his hobbies and interests while refusing to blindly consume garbage.
Plus, he isn't one to back down when challenge, and some idiots think that is a bad thing.
Now, some times I do feel he might come off as a bit abrasive, but that's Michael being Michael. Leave if you can't handle that.

The fact that you didn't go with the flow and were willing to critique The Last Jedi and Disney Star Wars in general was what attracted me to this channel to start with. I've since subscribed and spent the last couple of years watching new and old videos. I've found entertainment as well as valuable information ranging from toy repair to fan projects to toy industry standards. I don't always agree with your views (though I often do) but I don't need to to enjoy the content. You've shown you have personal integrity and self reflection as a person and a collector. You have my respect.

I hope I said it at the time, but the Heroes of Colour was a great show, and probably one of my favourites of any kind this year, from any channel.
A genuine look into collecting and the collectors that the youtube algorithm doesn't always suggest to me, without being patronising or apologetic. I got to broaden my appreciation for my hobby, and found even more channels to subscribe to!

I tend to think most of those complaining/negative people are cowards and won’t actually try to confront you .. easier to hide behind social media, etc.

Negativity is only a bad thing when it’s unwarranted. Believe me, looking at the things Michael deals with it is *definitely* warranted.

I think the power of this channel is the depth it will go to make structured and fact based videos. They're layered and well thought out. Also congrats for the homerun that was iconic 2021! You guys put heart and soul into that.

Great video. My fave video this year was Bionic Six Part One. Really made me laugh and it’s a cartoon few speak of. On Bryan Adams I remember when it got to week 10 of that being number 1 over here and being confused by who was still buying the thing. Incredible really as the U.K. chart back then was hard to crack as you had to convince people to buy your single not simply ask for it to be played on the radio. Great song tho.
