CKid I had an echo dot for a while but decided to go to Google home. Much better in my opinion. I'm gonna get a home mini for myself in place of my regular home because it has better voice recognition. I kept having issues where it couldn't hear me over music. I plan on hooking up new speakers above my desk so I don't need an amazing built in speaker on the home itself
I don't think you have to completely ditch Alexa for GH. I have several Echo devices and I am pondering getting a Mini to add to the mix. They both can co-exist in my home.
When I saw the title of this video I was going to skip it, because I didn't want to hear anything disparaging about Alexa, but I broke down and listened. I just want to add Amazon has allowed the ability to create profiles so each person's voice is recognized. However I have to agree it would be nice if Amazon would spend more time working on its software for instance assisting Microsoft with beefing up Bing since it relies on it for search results and if they would incorporate the Alexa Skills into its software updates thus allowing you to just speak the wake word without having to first enable a Skill. But the fact remains there are plenty of things you can do with the Alexa by enabling a skill. I really dislike Google for pulling UA-cam from the Echo Show. They could still compete without being petty. I am still an Alexa fan of sorts but I have been mulling the idea of purchasing a GH Mini to see what I can get out of it. I am not going to ditch my Alexa products. I believe they both can exist in my house.
Hello I am new here and I just got a Google Home , And I can see why you would like to change and I say to change because it is good shaped it's the size of a donut and I think you would really live it and appreciate having it but the things I recommend buying with it are Philips Hue Crome cast (so you can play Netflix UA-cam esc on the TVs) Spotify on your phone or iPad tablet and that's all. I hope this helped
I agree with hey Google being unnatural. The fact that it knows who is talking to it and that they have added different voices makes me hopeful that the ability to name your assistant is on its way.
I got the Google Home Mini as a gift last week, soon after ordered the Echo Dot 2, thinking I would have the best of both worlds.. Yesterday the Echo Dot 2 arrived and within a few hours I realized Google is superior. Here is just one of many examples: I told Alexa to "shut up" she muted her silly story, then continued talking. Alexa is unresponsive 30% of the time, 40% of the time she doesn't have an answer, and the rest she's just, eh.
Man you hit all the right points. I have 2 echo dots. I was turned off by the pricing of the original Google home, but now since the home mini is out I think I'll be crossing over. Great video! 👊
+Just Doin' Life I agree I thought the Google Home was a bit pricey. But compared to the price of the original Echo it was cheaper though. But I’m with you on those mini’s they essentially are all you need. Thanks for checking out the vid. Appreciate you.
The counter argument is that Google has a history of abandoning features leaving its users high and dry. I’m into the Google ecosystem as well, but it’s a valid argument.
Wood Hughes I would agree with your statement as they did with Google Music which I feel they abandoned but it seems that they are full steam ahead with Google Assistant so far. Since it's inception they have been consistent with the updates and staying ahead of current market making other companies have to play catch up. But I do see your argument and agree 100%. Thanks for watching buddy and if you can consider subscribing and sharing this video that would be awesome.
I know I’m 2 years late on this tech but a month ago before making my choice I did my homework and I made the choice to go with google for all the points you mentioned. The idea is to have a device to pretty much do what you ask it to do with no fuss. Yes, echo in some case looks better but the search engine is behind. The maps are behind when I need directions, common since things I need it to look up it Amazon doesn’t get it done all the time. As for Apple hard no, it’s a speaker that is limited in what it plays not a fan
Google Home gets better everyday and its only been out for a short time vs. echo. We have both, but the Google Home is much more intuitive and its responses are more refined. I'll be returning the Echo 2
Smart move my friend....smart move. I keep only 1 echo device in my home to be able to test other tech items that may come out for the channel but we live in a Google Assistant Home.
Can you make a video about how IFTTT can be use to make it better? I am still trying to understand how an average person, with simple (stupid) devices such as myself, can benefit from adding IFTTT
Outstanding video CKid! I've watched dozens of these videos trying to decide which way I want to go, Amazon or Google. You made that decision easy! Thanks again!
You just made one of the best purchases this year...no doubt you will enjoy it. Thanks for checking out the channel. Feel free to subscribe and make sure you check out my recent video where I talk about a GIVEAWAY I have running right now.
I’ll have to see the mini in person. Does have a3.5 jack. This would allow me to connect it to my sound bar. Unless it has Bluetooth. I’ve also noticed a google audio device that one would hook up to their TV
It does not have a 3.5mm jack but if you get the Chromecast Audio then it will allow your to bluetooth connect to your sound bar you are wanting it to connect to. The Chromecast you could use to hook up to your TV, and the Chromecast Audio you can use to hook up to your soundbar.
I have an Echo Dot that I bought months ago when they were on sale and have that hooked up to a bunch of smart plugs. I did just get a Google Home Mini though with my Pixel 2 purchase so I need to play around with that more as I really haven't used it much, but now I have both.
That's odd as we use routines and "Good morning" phrases on the Amazon Echo Dot in the UK. Most of the time the Google Mini just looks up stuff on the web or Wikipedia, whereas Alexa actually seems to answer questions. I've also found that asking the same questions for Months on the Google Mini and she still has no clue, but after a week Alexa suddenly supports your question or command, plus if you message Feedback they can add stuff to the queue, where Google isn't interested.
I LOVED my Echo Dot, but I just HAD to upgrade to Google home mini. Responses are better. Multi room speaker function, individualized voice recognition, and I just watched your other video and found out if handles 2 commands in one.
I purchased some Echo Dots to give as gifts to my team and a couple of Google Home minis. Personally, I am more impressed with the performance of the Google Home. With all of these Echo products, I feel like Amazon doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up.
Came across your channel researching the Google Home products. I just committed to the Google Home Mini (4) and the Google Home Hub. Great job. Subscribing!!
I am still trying to decide between these two devices and I appreciate your insight. I already use Google Assistant with my Galaxy S phone, and love it. I also use Google for email, navigation, searching, images, calendar, lists, appointments, and so much more, that I am really leaning towards the Google Home. Great video!
Thanks for watching...I appreciate it. That's how I was, I figured I used Google for everything it only made sense to go the Google Home Mini and Google Home route. Let me know which one you decide. Feel free to share this video.
Good video and opinion. I bought both to try them out. I will be returning the Google mini because I was not aware that it does not connect to other speakers. It does not have a audio jack connection and it does not connect via Bluetooth. Echo does.
Just add Chromecast audio usually 25 bucks on sale to any speaker or device and Google home or mini can broadcast through it. Google home and mini is so much more intuitive than the amazon products. Bluetooth btw is a very spotty way of sending audio. Just ask any audiophile....
the mini acts as a chrome cast receiving device and can also transmit to other chromecast audio devices (either other minis or speakers hooked up to chrome caset audio). there is no need for bluetooth. chromecast audio is much better both in range and quality. chromecast audio is awesome actually.
No problem...thanks for checking out the channel. Feel free to share this video with your friends. Also make sure you're subbed to the channel got my '1 Week of CKid Christmas' Giveaway coming up starting next week. Video dropping tomorrow on further details.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. The information was well thought out and very well conveyed. For Christmas this year I received the Home Mini and the Dot. This video helped with the questions of which one do I want to use. Thank you CKid.
I appreciate your review and rationale. Not a fan-boy for either company, you gave specific, detailed reasons why you have the opinion you do. I subscribed so I can hear your voice give these level headed reviews. Keep up the good work!
I just purchased the Google Max and a Phillips starter kit, largely based on the info you provided in this video. I think Google goes a little beyond what Alexa can offer, and it is constantly evolving. Thanks for the great info. Liked and subbed.
Thank you so much for all the information. I’ve been struggling with which mini device to buy my daughter. Google or Amazon. Though they weren’t the focus of this video, you touched on a lot of points such as UA-cam being unavailable for Amazon, and how google focuses more on the hardware so you don’t have ten devices that do almost the same thing!
I am very glad that I have waited until I did the research and talked to people who know about both the mini and the dot. Like you I am going with google. I am an android user anyway, and always have been.
Loved your quick and to the point evaluation of the two products. I generally hate Amazon for everything but wanted to at least look at the Amazon dot as I seek to purchase an in home device. You made my choice easy.
Sorry , the show does more than ( you tube ) ! It works with the ring doorbell, cooking recipes, plays movies , shows weather forecast , you can make calls more and more.
cindy pantoja but Cindy that’s to many choices for you so forget vision cause it’s to much to see and hear things...just hearing is the way it should be cause it shows that google is concentrating on their ai more. I’m with you Cindy...we have vision :)
I'm getting ready to get my first smart speaker and begin a smart home setup. This video (and others on your channel) have been VERY helpful in deciding between Google Home and Alexa. Thanks for all your research and info! Really appreciate your content! Think I'm gonna go Google... :)
I agree with you about the Echo Show. Losing UA-cam support (which was inevitable, given the fact that Google has a competing product) was a really heavy blow. But i don't think you can make the same case for the audio devices. I see a lot more reason to use Alexa-based devices, specifically because of the attention that Amazon puts on the hardware side. The Google Home Mini needs a line out jack and real Bluetooth support to compete with the Dot. And while, yes, Amazon doesn't have the same degree of control over the software, Amazon's decision to allow others to develop for Alexa means there's a *lot* of software out for it. That arguably makes Alexa devices more useful overall, even though you can't use Alexa devices for UA-cam.
+Brian Hartman you make some great points. The Google Home and Mini both need to have line outs but you know these companies have to find a way to market their other products. It’s unfortunate. Great and valid points overall thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
I wouldn't be surprised to see anti competition litigation if Google are blocking services because you bought one device and not another. will they also be blocking iphones and other 3rd party devices? I think not. Expect some convergence and licencing agreements eventually.
you can use a chromecast audio to get around the audio jack issue. theres not alot of situations where I would want to use an Audio out on the home mini franckly where the chromecast audio wouldn;t fit the bill.
You sir have just found a new fan. Before black Friday I decided Google home mini was the way to go, but it sucks that all the cool accessories (i.e. docks) are for the echo dot
Thanks I appreciate you checking out the channel and rocking wit me. And don't worry you made the right choice by choosing the Google Home Mini product. There will be swing of those cool accessories coming out for Google's AI products within the next year as they are taking up some serious market share. Feel free to share this video :) #humble
You need to do a followup. Amazon is reversing itslelf on making Google Home products available through its site. If Google responds by reenabling UA-cam access for Amazon AI devices . . .
P Schmied still can't ever see it being superior when google only has more tricks up it's sleeve for full home integration that Amazon can't ever reach. From the first day I heard these were available I knew I would have to get the Google home as eventually my entire contact list, messages, emails will ALL be available through the home. They're setting the framework now for total market domination
We have had an Echo for eight months, but got Pixel 2s in December and Home Mini last month. Your reasoning for switching to Google is spot on. Someone else commented how when you speak to Alexa you have to repeat yourself. Totally agree. Google's AI is far superior.
This video is so informative and concise! Very helpful! Can you tell me anything more about how well the Google Home can work as an actual personal assistant? If I set my schedule in google calendar, can the Google Home alert me to tasks on scheduled times? Or do you have to ask it with a prompt what's next on your schedule? Thanks!
+Vasara Muse it works very well with Google apps. You just have to ask it “what’s my day looking like” and it will provide you a rundown of your calendar for that day. Thanks for watching appreciate you checking me out.
I just switched to the Google Home Mini after 4 years using the Echo. I was thinking of switching more than a year ago, but the Skills in Google was greatly limited. Then, I recently discovered that Google's list of 3rd party skills had grown significantly. I found the Nanoleaf in there, Logitech Harmony which weren't there before. Looks like everyone's in there now. Also, I find the microphones on the Google Home Mini far more sensitive and responsive to my voice than the echo dot.
Very helpful! Thanks! I have the UE Megaboom and decided to play with Alexa since it's compatible. Alexa just wasn't able to handle all the functions I was hoping for in such a device. I use audible and it worked with Cozi calendar, but I love the abilities of Google. Just from my phone, while in the car, telling Google which Whole Foods to call handsfree? Mind blown! Bixby couldn't do it either. My only concern is how useful Google is for home automation. I haven't jumped over that broom yet, but I've been looking into Philips hue to start.
Hi first off thanks for watching. I’ll tell you now if you get into Phillips Hue Lights you will love it and won’t regret it. And the integration with Google Home works great 👍🏾. I just dropped a new video on some new features of the Google Home and Google Home mini. Feel free to check that out. Might find some features that you may like. Again thanks for watching 🙏🏾. Feel free to share.
In an effort to simplify my digital life, I've been battling the Echo Vs. Home thing for a while, especially in the last few weeks. Echo is much more mature but Google Home keeps is simple since we are all on Android Phones, Google Music Family with UA-cam Red and we use Family Link. I wish Google Home would let me shuffle my entire music collection by voice but they did they they are "working on it."
Yea I was battling the Echo Vs. Home thing for awhile until I actually sat down and thought about the Pro's and Con's of both and with my explanation within this video Google was just the clear winner for my life. It just has more practical uses for what I need AI devices for. Thanks for checking me out I appreciate you.
Oh and forgot to mention I also use Android Wear Smart Watches, so yet another tie to Google Assistant (and it works very well.) Also gave a THUMBS UP to the video. :)
You're spot on, we already have gmail, calendars, lists and other native Android stuff. The real battle is over which products will integrate with the information system we've bought in to. Same as Windoze, Mac, Linux is about which you've learned and what software you already own.
garak0410 - that’s interesting. I can command my google to play my music and then shuffle it by simply asking it to “shuffle music” after it starts playing.
For the google home can it use multiple Spotify accounts say one for me and one for my partner then we both have access to our playlists depending on whos voices does the command?
Love my Google Home Mini. Got it for free which makes it even better. Sometimes I have trouble setting music alarms but I guess it's the phrases I have to get down. Other than that it's pretty awesome.
Thank you for your in depth coverage and opinion between the Echo and Google Home. After 4 years of using the Amazon Echo, I find myself leaning more towards the Google Home of late because of the same reasons you mentioned. The final straw recently came when Echo just disabled the communications features like Call, Message and Drop In. (I live outside the US). Meanwhile Google Home is making huge inroads into the rest of the world without restrictions, unlike Amazon Echo which is still limited to use in the US and UK. I think I'll be going for Goggle Home. The power of Google search and it's leading services ...and your video has reinforced my decision to switch. Cheers...Paul
Thanks for this video bro. It allowed me to really figure out the differences between the Google & Amazon home automation products. I'm definitely going with Google on this one being that I already have the Chromecast and love Google's echosystem when it comes to automation!!!!
Great review, may be just the one I needed. Got a new house and think of starting to make it a little smart (once internet service hey down my street, whole other conversation) but still on the fence of which assistant base I want to start with (eventually maybe growing to a hub, etc.). Thanks again, keep the good info coming and think I'll order me a mini.
+Michael Holland hey Michael thanks for checking me out. First off congrats on the new Home. If I were you and your looking to get a new assistant base that would have more practical uses I would recommend the Google Home or Home Mini. I would start out with one or two Home Mini’s just to see how you like them. Then if you enjoy those then in your main living space you can upgrade to the Google Home ad if your looking for that music speaker then there is the Google Max, which honestly you could get but I do believe for the average consumer like you and me it’s a bit pricey for a Bluetooth speaker for the untrained ear. But it is a Hi-Fi system so your paying for that sound quality but I just think there are just as great Bluetooth speakers out there that won’t break the bank at the cost of the Google Max $399. But if you got it why not. Haha. Appreciate you checking me out feel free to share this video.
@Ckid If you already had an Echo Dot/FireStick like I did and you got out and get a Google Home/Chromecast why do you need to go with one over the other? Yes, I love the UA-cam integration with Google, but I equally love the integration I have with the Echo Dot my Amazon ecosystem. It just upsets me that people are always making videos where people are telling others to choose one over the other. You obviously have multiple devices and the disposable income to afford them. Not everyone is in this position. Both of these devices work great for me because I am fully vested in both ecosystems. As I stated before, I purchased a Google Home Mini and a Chromecast. I also pay for pay for UA-cam Red and Google Music. I also purchased An Echo Dot and a Amazon FireStick. I am an Amazon Prime member. I also pay for Amazon Music Unlimited and have purchased many seasons of children's shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for my toddler. The same way that you brag about Google Home UA-cam or Google integration, the Dot also has some native integration with the Amazon ecosystem that you cannot access on the Google Home. As for home automation, I also use Philips Hue light bulbs around the house and all lights sync with both devices so I can turn them on with the Google Home and turn them off with the Amazon Echo Dot. So my recommendation to someone who does not have either is that if you do not have any additional devices like ChromeCast or FireStick/TV or you are not controlling home automation devices like blinds, lights, or switches, then you will probably enjoy the Google Home better due to the better speaker and the fact that the Google Home is powered by the Google search engine that no other AI assistant can match. If you pay for any addons from either Amazon or Google then I would go with the device that integrates with where you already spend your money. One is not better than the other, they are like Apple and Android, or Honda and Toyota. It's more about which you prefer. And what works for one person may not work for you.
Very good point about Red. Google could be heading for trouble if they're taking your money and blocking you from the service you're paying for. There's a contract, did it say sorry no Alexas allowed?
So, I was offered one or the other as a gift, 2nd Gen Amazon Echo or Google Home. The features that are most important to me are playing Pandora, calling my contacts, checking the weather, setting alarms/timers and random Google searches. I like the voice recognition and casual tone of the Google, but I like the sleekness of Alexa and like saying "Alexa." Which do you suggest?
I have 2 dots, one regular echo and one show. I am blown away by all the stuff that it does not know. I use my show for my ring+ doorbell and August door lock, and for that I find it convenient. But I am really curious about the Google home because I would love to actually get search results. I just ordered a new Sony tv that works with both google home and Amazon Alexa. With the home mini going on sale for 29.99 on black Friday at multiple locations, I think I will have to give it a try. It killed me when they took away you tube one month after I bought the show. I felt scammed.
+stacey paul thanks appreciate you checking out the channel. Yea getting it for $30 is a steal and I would highly recommend it. Having that Google search engine and years of data they have stored is what makes it more powerful. Yea it killed me too when I bought my Echo Show. I’m still trying to sell it. Haha
So I'm a new comer to all this .Trying to buy my first. I have a voice issue and need it to recognize the little voice I have . So this was very helpful ty
Sure thing glad I could help. Thanks for checking out the channel. Consider subscribing if you like what you saw 🙏🏾. Also I have a giveaway going on right now you can still enter. To enter check out my most recent video.
Informative video, thank you Ckid. Please tell about the total cost, besides Internet & electricity costs. For music, do I have to pay for a subscription?. For Amazon's device, do I have to sign-up for Prime service? Can I play my mp3 recordings from my desktop?. Which has powerful speakers? Can any device handle & operate in 2 or even 3 languages in the family?.
Yes you can setup profiles on google assistant and enter in the specific phone information and the google Home mini will begin learning who matches to what profile to distinguish the 2
Thanks for your insight into this, I have been contemplating with the ideal of which AI I was going to get...Now its down to Google or Apple, any comments on apples AI Pod
+Michael Stamper sure thing glad I could help. I plan on grabbing one for the channel so I can give an experienced review for you all. That way I’m speaking on experience with it like I did in this video by having owned both AI devices. Stay tuned for that. Thanks 🙏🏾 again for rocking wit me on the channel. I see you reppin in the comments. 👌🏾
I too have mostly switched to the google home products because the speaker on the Home Mini is 10 times better than the speaker on the Echo Dot. I haven't completely made the switch because there is currently no Siriusxm support on the Google Home products. Although I found out that I can pair my Dot to my Mini and it works great.
I have a Google Home which we got from my wife's work for free. I also have a Nest Thermostat installed. I plan on expanding on my smart home devices, but not sure where to go. We all have iPhone's and when trying to setup the Nest through the Google Home app on the iPhone, it does nothing. Right now I am just kind of unimpressed at the moment, but want to do more.
I like your reason for not preferring the echo because of what Google did but I use it as an excuse not to use Google mini. The internet is supposed to be free and what Google did was very underhanded. I've been using the echo for a year now and have lots of different TP Link controllers and I also have the Echo Show and I use it for accessing my external cameras but watching UA-cam videos was very disappointing on it because the screen resolution was so disappointing. I really don't consider it much of a loss
I received an echo dot last year for Christmas. It sat mostly untouched on the shelf, until I decided to outfit my apartment with Philips Hue smart bulbs. It was the most obscenely complicated process to set up, and I still couldn't get individual bulbs/rooms to work independently of one another. After doing some further research, I decided to utilize the google platform, purchasing two google dots and one google home. While the process of making philips hue work with google still had quirks, they were easily ironed out by trial and error. It took me about an hour to figure out google instead of the day and a half wasted on the amazon echo, with little success. I was even able to install a wemo plug to put my Christmas Tree on a timer as well. Google Home still seems unsophisticated at this point, but so did Gmail and Maps when they started. I would rather bet my smart home on the future potential of google than on amazon, simply for the reasons you stated, and the experiences I went through. Amazon has a cleaner interface (and less goofy looking speaker design), but Google is improving function over style daily, something that has always set them apart for me over the years.
Trust me I initially had those same struggles with the Echo dots when setting up my lights. With google Home mini it was much simpler to get up and running. Thanks for checking out the channel. Appreciate you. Feel free to share this video with friends and family. 🙏🏾
Nice opening. I have to say that I made an opinion video on just this. I see the devices as a personal choice. I have the echo gen 1, 2, and 3. The devices do a superb job no complaints really. My focus was controlling smart devices which the echo does a great with. I have a smart home I mean the lights, thermostat, security alarm, tv. I can control it all from echo. There are now newer features included in the echo. My point is that it depends on your purpose for these devices. Once you figure it out then you know which device you would choose. I can't eliminate one because one or two features are not available I can live with it. In my opinion they both provide what your looking for voice control. There is nothing wrong with 3rd party options there is a benefit to that as well like all other devices most use 3rd party software. I agree with the UA-cam feature but then again I don't really need it. Thanks for the info.
I got the Amazon Echo as a gift and I really liked it but wow can Alexa frustrating sometimes and tbh I really don't like using the Alexa app. You made some really good points, thank you for this video.
so your starting point was that now that Amazon Show isn't playing UA-cam it's not working for you. What does Google make in it's A.I line that can play UA-cam, answer nothing
So, I have a question that I haven't seen an answer for. I'm thinking of getting some Google home minis as xmas gifts for family members. They all have iPhones and use Amazon prime for purchases and Amazon video (as well as netflix) through their Firesticks. With all the crap going on between the two companies, does Google home mini provide interface to Amazon prime services and Firestick streaming?
Thank you sir. Some of the benefits of being able to continually respond to the google assistant are nice but this information is helpful in the decision making. The Echo Dot is a nice, cheap alternative (right now) until we see the final, released iteration of Apple Homepod gen. 1, though, I'm even leery of how that's going to go. Thanks
Bought both AI on Black Friday. I dig Amazon. However my wife and I feel like you. Google has the market. I almost returned the Home mini. But we both think it's the future for now. Thanks for confirming our thoughts.
Glad I could help. And way to go on scooping up those awesome Black Friday deals on the Google Home Mini. Smart shoppers I see. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to sub and share. Thanks.
Great vid :) I've got a question I'm hoping you might be able to help with - My elderly mum doesn't have a smart phone but my Dad does. If I bought them the Google Home and linked it to my Dad's google account/device, would I be able to add my mum's voice as an additional voice to that account (so basically both voices are linked to the one account)? Struggling to find that info online so any insight would be really appreciated :~)
Very persuasive. You make a lot of good points. I own devices from both companies. The most frustrating part of Google is that my Google home will often answer when I am trying to get a search result in my phone. I have to remember to physically activate Google on my phone rather than using the trigger words. Also, last time I checked it wasn't working with my TP link smart plugs to control my lamps. Amazon is great for placing calls to friends and family who also use Amazon devices, ordering through Amazon, and getting shipment updates from Amazon. Finally, I find it easier and more convenient to say, Echo, Amazon, or Alexa, than Hey Google or Okay Google. Google is much better at answering questions. You've convinced me.to plug in my Google Home and give it another try. Ultimately, I'll probably end up using both, I have an Echo, Echo Dot, Google Home, and Google Home Mini. It's expensive, but you get the best of both worlds, and the government gets to know you a little bit better having more microphones in your house. 😉
Thanks for checking out the channel. You can use these smart plugs. TanTan Smart Plug Mini Wi-Fi Enabled Outlet (2-Pack) amzn.to/2DsVHGC they are much better and the best smart plugs I recommend for Google Home. You won’t be disappointed. Feel free to share this video.
I had to buy Roku stick to replace my Amazon fire stick because of the lost of UA-cam from Amazon. Thanks for the information of the Echo. I was considering purchasing one, but that has now changed.
Hey CKid, I happen to own both product lines. However, mine are just the smart speakers, not the smart displays. Initially I bought amazon's first because I wanted the integration into my prime account, and then after playing with it for a while found third party stuff I also use and enjoy. When it comes to Google, I mainly wanted it for compatibility with media devices that have google tech built in, such as chromecast, my Sony android TV, and sound bars with google cast audio built in. Personally, if I had to pick if i could keep one, I would pick amazon, because it has more practical features, i would use on a daily basis for shopping, etc, and the voice recognition has overall been more reliable then google. However having them both I find they compliment each other as where one may lack, the other picks up on. Plus it's a good opportunity to watch both platforms grow together and see what happens. Have a great day. FYI, i got my echo plus 2nd generation on sale from Best Buy for $100, so it was essentially the same price as a standard google home speaker. I got an Echo Dot 3rd generation for $30 off amazon, and a wall mount which lets you put the dot, and power brick into a fixture that let's you mount it to the wall at the power outlet. Nice concept and space saver.
Thanks buddy...be on the look out for that Rap Tech of the Month video dropping on Monday! There is a sneak peak of it on my Twitter right now @Ckid861
Thanks MythicParty appreciate you checking me out. Glad you liked the Intro. I personally think the Google Wifi mesh router is legit. I have a couple of people I know who use it and say that it works well. Honestly I believe Mesh Router setups are the way to go if you have a larger home. But if you're in a home of about 1500 soft or less then I think a normal gigabit speed router in combination with a good service provider is a good route to go to. But if you are looking for a solid performance router then the Google Mesh Router system is the way to go. But just keep in mind it is expensive to get but definitely worth it if you have an open home concept within your living space. Too many sectioned off walls in your home can affect any wifi systems regardless if its mesh or not. Appreciate you again and feel free to share this video as it does help out the channel.
I have the Amazon Echo it works pretty good I haven't tried the Google Home yet. I hear alot of people saying Google is everywhere in media sites. I'm torn between both of them for now
They must have really listened to you! I just got my dot about a week ago, and I can do everything that you have mentioned on it… With out any other apps or anything… All in the Alexa app
Saw the intro to this video and instantly hit like. Saw the outro and instantly hit subscribe. This is the kind of guy I need to be taking advice from!
For a lot of the same reasons, I got me a Google Home. I was in Best Buy earlier this week. The Google Max Speaker Sounds really great. What are your thoughts on the Google Max Speaker?
I should do a video on that. But the Google Home Max speaker is just as amazing as the HomePod. It has great sound but a couple of drawbacks is the size is so large and the price. But I do like that I can stream any music service to it natively unlike the Apple HomePod (which I have a video on that). Overall it is a great speaker and non audiophile like myself will still hear it as a great Hi-Fi speaker. I would recommend a buy for sure but would wait until a holiday sale because I do think the retail price right now is a bit much for the untrained ear like myself.
Great video! Don’t like being forced to listen to rap before I get the info. If it were briefer I would not have to fast forward the video past it. A simple compromise for people who like rap music and those who don’t, Shorten it. Or not. It’s your show.
Wow, sorry but I have both (2 Google Homes and 5 Echo devices) and Google is so far behind Amazon on this that it's painful to use. Almost every item you mentioned was supported on Amazon Echo before Google. With the exception of Broadcast and voice profiles (now supported) every other item you mentioned was supported by Echo way before Google. It took Google a year before it would even answer "What are the showtimes for ..." correctly. Echo supports scenes without IFFT, routines (Good Morning) without IFFT, Cast to Fire TV without IFFT, Watch your cameras on whatever device you tell it to show it on without IFFT, Calls and intercoms had your personal number for caller ID from the start, play your audio books, play your podcasts.... I'm a big time Google fan but the lack of UA-cam (now back) on the overpriced (I agree here) Echo Show isn't enough to knock it off the top spot. Ability to play youtube isn't the killer feature. In fact the video playing feature in Alexa is far more flexible since if your request isn't very specific Echo will show you a search list on the FireTV from all your channels and lets you search UA-cam as well. There is one area that Google wins hands down and that's in its natural language processing and tailored answers to profile. After all they have all your data whereas Amazon only has your purchases. However if you have a Google GSuites account for personalized email domains and business use you're screwed since Google in there infinite idiocy decided to not allow GSuite accounts in the fun. I had to move to a gmail account and lose access to Google Music purchases from my GSuites Play Music account. Oh and speaking of losing media. While youtube will happily play your purchased movies Google Home will not. A very inconsistent experience across the board. They added Remember where... commands and like the Reminder feature they went live with you can't view these Remember items on any app. Basically Google still has some catching up to do. I'm sure in another 6-9 months they'll be there. However Amazon just started playing with Amazon cameras with facial recognition and the integration with Alexa may make whatever Google does look lame. And they have NEST which started all this. Yet you can't even ask Google Home to show you the cameras on the TV yet. Feature to be released soon is all you hear yet it's not available, and presumably only for NEST CAMS.
I don;t agree. The one reason I choose google is because google is a better voice recognition software. they have been doing the assistant longer, and it shows in its ability to understand context, and get the correct result far more often than than Alexa. Alexa can;t do this as good as google can. the areas that Amazon is better at is only because they've been out longer. I fully expect google to pass amazon in short order. the features that Amazon is still better at is only a matter of time. Google has had far longer experience in the voice recognition assistant area that I don't think Alexa will ever be as good as it at being an actual digital assistant. That and i'm heavily into the google ecosystem (chromecasts everywhere, youtube and play music and Netflix supscriber) all intergrates better into the google home than alexa. I still have some Echos around specifically for Amazon stuff, because i do my shopping on Amazon primarily. but Google home will likely be my main assistant in my house for the foreseeable future.
Let me know what you all think about Amazon and Google devices and which one you like to have in your home.
I waited for and purchased the Google Home. The Google database alone made it worth it. Gonna buy two minis when they’re released
I prefer the google home also but, I just hate saying "Okay Google/Hey Google" it doesn't feel natural like saying Alexa.
The138Monster *feel*
Imagine how often it would be triggered if you just said Google
I agree with hey Google being unnatural. The fact that it knows who is talking to it and that they have added different voices makes me hopeful that the ability to name your assistant is on its way.
I'd at least like "hey Gee". Sounds like a good compromise, as the original doesnt roll as well for me.
In the app you can change the name of what you call your Google
I love how connected you are to your chat this video was made 2 years ago and you are still reading the chat love u bro
Most definitely I always stay tuned with my peeps. Thanks for watching fam. I 👀 you
I got the Google Home Mini as a gift last week, soon after ordered the Echo Dot 2, thinking I would have the best of both worlds..
Ditto that.
Why would you buy either one? I have searched and searched and I can't find anything either one will do.
After you said crossover epmd. Came to mind..😂
Done & done. Good presentation.
Amazon started it when they refused to carry Google products. They in effect awoke the sleeping giant.
Good to know. I was thinking these same types of things. The google assistant is by far the best anyway.
For sure. Thanks for watching. Feel free to share.
Also try connecting ifttt very quickly with Google home and it makes your assistant much better. Google home is much better
+Somaro Jamie definitely one of my favorite things to play with is IFTTT. Most definitely a awesome addition to the Google Home devices.
+Somaro Jamie thanks for watching and checking out the channel.
CKid
Can you make a video about how IFTTT can be use to make it better? I am still trying to understand how an average person, with simple (stupid) devices such as myself, can benefit from adding IFTTT
Outstanding video CKid! I've watched dozens of these videos trying to decide which way I want to go, Amazon or Google. You made that decision easy! Thanks again!
Thanks glad I was able to help. Thanks for watching...feel free to share this with friends.
You are no nonsense in your opinions which is awesome. Glad I found your channel
Thanks buddy...feel free to share.
I've Just bought a mini after watching this informed and well presented video, sir
You just made one of the best purchases this year...no doubt you will enjoy it. Thanks for checking out the channel. Feel free to subscribe and make sure you check out my recent video where I talk about a GIVEAWAY I have running right now.
Awesome editorial. I have 3 Echo dots and just picked up my first Google Home Mini. Strongest argument I've heard so far.
Thanks appreciate you checking out the video and channel.
Yea the two commands is definitely a huge bonus.
I purchased some Echo Dots to give as gifts to my team and a couple of Google Home minis. Personally, I am more impressed with the performance of the Google Home. With all of these Echo products, I feel like Amazon doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up.
+WhatsThe411TV “what it wants to be when it grows up” Haha. Best comment yet. Too funny 😂😂😂
+WhatsThe411TV thanks for checking out the channel. Appreciate you 🙏🏾
This really makes laugh because no one thinks I have a sense of humor, lol!
No problem, I subscribed to your channel, looking forward to your updates.
It's knows what it wants to be it want's to be and that is a voice command shopping cart.
Came across your channel researching the Google Home products. I just committed to the Google Home Mini (4) and the Google Home Hub. Great job. Subscribing!!
Thanks bro appreciate that. When you get a chance check out my latest video.
Fantastic explanation. Describes why I never bought into the Amazon platform...
Thanks buddy!
Intro and Outro made me smash that Subscribe button.
Also, best video in helping me decide.
Dope appreciate the support. Thanks...feel free to share.
Love the intro and how you kept it on point. Lots of facts and very relatable. Good luck as you come up. I just subscribed, liked and shared.
Good video and opinion. I bought both to try them out. I will be returning the Google mini because I was not aware that it does not connect to other speakers. It does not have a audio jack connection and it does not connect via Bluetooth. Echo does.
Yes, absolutely . .
Doom Doom Chromecast Audio is a cheap addon to the mini to get maximum benefit
Just add Chromecast audio usually 25 bucks on sale to any speaker or device and Google home or mini can broadcast through it. Google home and mini is so much more intuitive than the amazon products. Bluetooth btw is a very spotty way of sending audio. Just ask any audiophile....
the mini acts as a chrome cast receiving device and can also transmit to other chromecast audio devices (either other minis or speakers hooked up to chrome caset audio). there is no need for bluetooth. chromecast audio is much better both in range and quality. chromecast audio is awesome actually.
It is bluetooth .check again because I i use it all the time
Thank you. You definitely helped me make up my mind between the two.
No problem...thanks for checking out the channel. Feel free to share this video with your friends. Also make sure you're subbed to the channel got my '1 Week of CKid Christmas' Giveaway coming up starting next week. Video dropping tomorrow on further details.
Hands down, best intro on UA-cam
+Raphael Shay thanks 🙏🏾. Appreciate you checking me out. 😉
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. The information was well thought out and very well conveyed. For Christmas this year I received the Home Mini and the Dot. This video helped with the questions of which one do I want to use. Thank you CKid.
I have the google home mini, echo dot and a HomePod.
The Google Home mini is the best smart speaker.
This is by far the best video that truly explains why I should go with google! Subscribed!
Thanks appreciate you checking out the channel and subbing. #humble #salute
Thanks for checking me out...Yea you are right, Google Assistant is constantly evolving and just becoming the perfect AI ecosystem for homes today.
You like the hue & Max?
I was so confused between two and what to choose but u made it clear and help me make my decision
Going with Google 😎
+Nandakisore Sreekanth thanks glad you found it helpful. Appreciate you checking me out. Feel free to follow me on Instagram @ckid86
Didn't even get out of your into before I hit like and subscribe. Love it!
Thanks Sue. Glad I was able to help. Feel free to share this video with friends.
Thanks for checking out the channel.
Great Video, tons of information, took your advice and went with Google and happy I did....Love to you...Love to all...Kitten
👌🏾
You did a great job. Great intro, great review! Keep up the great work!
Thanks bro appreciate you checking out the channel. Feel free to share. #humble
Thank you I'm literally in the store and you helped me so much.
CKid Thanks for the info! I'll check it out!
Oh nice you are all the way integrated...Love It! Thanks for the Thumbs Up Buddy!
I bought Google home mini two days and today I watched your videos. I have never been so happy. Btw that freestyle rap was awesome. Love your work bro
+Vegito_ Blue thanks 🙏🏾 appreciate it
For the google home can it use multiple Spotify accounts say one for me and one for my partner then we both have access to our playlists depending on whos voices does the command?
Great video! Loved your intro and outro. It was on POINT! I'm a tech creator too. I'm definitely a subscriber from here on! Keep up the good work.
+Melvin Thompson thanks I appreciate you checking out me out and subbing and becoming a part of Team CKid. I’ll check your channel out.
Thank you for a clear concise explanation. Very helpful.
Sure thing. Feel free to share.
Thanks for this video bro. It allowed me to really figure out the differences between the Google & Amazon home automation products. I'm definitely going with Google on this one being that I already have the Chromecast and love Google's echosystem when it comes to automation!!!!
No problem bro. Appreciate you checking out the channel. #humble 🙏🏾
I'm also in the process of building a new home. You may also want to look into Control 4.
+lagrande42 @Michael yes I would agree with him check out that Control 4. It’s something solid to look at.
u actually can flow...luv the opening and closing!
Appreciate you checking me out.
At this time Utube and Amazon echo hash out there problems and the utube can work on Amazon echo show as of 11-22-2017
I have 2 dots, one regular echo and one show.
Haha
Wondering if you need a certain t.v. to control it from your Google home mini?
For calling from specific contacts ect do you have both phones linked to it ?
Yes you can setup profiles on google assistant and enter in the specific phone information and the google
Home mini will begin learning who matches to what profile to distinguish the 2
CKid so 2 devices or 2 profiles from the same device?
2 profiles on a single device.
CKid so what about if I want to use it when my partner is at work ? Obviously his phone will be at work?
Thanks for the great video. Intro is original and great. New subscriber!
Thanks appreciate that 🙏🏾. Feel free to share this video as it really helps out the channel.
Will do!
Very informative. Great video for anyone in the market.
Thanks I appreciate it. Thanks for checking out the channel. Feel free to share this with friends and family.
Don't know what kind of lighting your using, But it makes your eyes look wild! Nice video! Thanks for sharing!
Very well articulated! You have a new sub for sure. Thanks man!
Excellent opinion, and I completely agree.
Thanks appreciate you checking out the channel and video. Feel free to share this video with friends and family. #TeamCKid
I like the introduction to your videos 🌹👍😎❤️
Thanks...I'm currently working on another one for this year...stay tuned for that in future videos.
very well thought out and well said, thanks
No problem. Thanks for checking out the channel. Feel free to share this video.
so your starting point was that now that Amazon Show isn't playing UA-cam it's not working for you. What does Google make in it's A.I line that can play UA-cam, answer nothing
dwcobb43 Chromecast
yeah and it's 35 bucks, not 100 and something
So, I have a question that I haven't seen an answer for.
I'm thinking of getting some Google home minis as xmas gifts for family members. They all have iPhones and use Amazon prime for purchases and Amazon video (as well as netflix) through their Firesticks.
With all the crap going on between the two companies, does Google home mini provide interface to Amazon prime services and Firestick streaming?
andrendenum1 if they're in the Amazon ecosystem it's best to go with an echo. No it doesn't integrate with Amazon prime.
Did you contact Amazon about returning the Show after youtube was removed?
No I didn't but that's actually not a bad idea. But I'm sure they would come up with some reason why it's not returnable.
Possibly. If you made enough of a stink you could probably get them to take it back. Anyway, good luck if you try.
TanTan Smart Plug Mini Wi-Fi Enabled Outlet (2-Pack)
amzn.to/2DsVHGC they are much better and the best smart plugs I recommend for Google Home.
Dude AWEOSME intro!
Thanks buddy...be on the look out for that Rap Tech of the Month video dropping on Monday! There is a sneak peak of it on my Twitter right now @Ckid861
CK, solid analysis of your reasons for switching & a nice 'hook' with the intro. Subscribed. What do you think of their Google Wifi/mesh router?
Excellent review packed with pertinent information
I have the Amazon Echo it works pretty good I haven't tried the Google Home yet. I hear alot of people saying Google is everywhere in media sites. I'm torn between both of them for now
Keep up the great work, just subbed. 👍🏿
Thanks 🙏🏾
They must have really listened to you! I just got my dot about a week ago, and I can do everything that you have mentioned on it… With out any other apps or anything… All in the Alexa app
The power of the channel and the platform...thanks for watching. Feel free to share.
Saw the intro to this video and instantly hit like. Saw the outro and instantly hit subscribe. This is the kind of guy I need to be taking advice from!
Thanks appreciate you checking out the channel and subbing to the channel
CKid I’m gonna wait until it’s on sale too😎👍🌹❤️ Be safe and have a wonderful day
Thanks will do...you do the same.
Yeah was supported by echo first cause echo was out first
Read like 5 words then gave up
MegaMarz yeah
