Those are heat shrink splices. You should have heat shrinked them after crimping them. It provides a weather proof connection.

Great video! Very well instructed. I appreciate how you didn't leave out any steps in your explanation. Thank you for sharing!

I'd recommend soldering and heat shrinking instead of trusting butt splices.

Shouldn’t you have put shrink tube on those..?

After this gets installed, don't you also need to do a 30 minute validation flight and get a report to see if it's working properly? Some have said you can just ask the tower if they see u as a ADS-B out aircraft during the validation flight which may not require 30 minutes to accomplish.

Why does it need stall speed? Would have liked a discussion on current draw.

I thought the yellow wire on sky beacon, had to be connected to airplanes red or power wire to power the
Sky beacon strobe as well as the unit itself, thanks

Strobes have a separate high voltage power supply unless you have LED strobes.

What happens if you don't have that wifi code? Is there another way to get the password?

Cellular is not WiFi. Just about all phones and tablets have WiFi but it has nothing to do with cellular service

I might be get a 172 within maybe a month and I'm trying to see if this is ADS B out?

Hi Joshua! Yes it is. We have a Status on a suction cup inside the fuselage for the ADS-B in. Very happy with the skyBeacon. It's exceptionally bright too!

I'm trying to install mine and I have the Whelen Strobe/Position Light combo on my Cherokee. The position light wiring is straight forward but the Strobe has 3 wires, an Anode, Cathode, and Trigger. No idea which wire to use for the strobe and Uavionix just sent me a link to their wiring diagram, which doesn't cover a 3-wire strobe light setup. They told me to just hook it up to the position light wire but that means I won't have a strobe. I wish someone would do a video on the strobe/position light combo.

Those are the high voltage wires from the strobe power supply. If you try to use those you will fry the Skybeacon.

    • @musketeerflyer

@@andrewtochman4188 Yes, I saw the warnings in the uAvionix instructions, but it would have been nice if they had given more information on what to do with the existing wiring to the strobe. ( They did give a hint in the work description on their sample 337, but I was puzzled as to why they don't want to publish the procedure in any of their other documentation. ) I disconnected the plug from the Whelen power supply that powered the left wing strobe light and I connected one of the wires to the 12-volt power input to the power supply using a terminal block, and then connected the other end of that wire at the wingtip to the yellow wire of the SkyBeacon. Validation flight passed - rebate being processed!

Followup. I figured it out. If you have the Whelen Strobe system with the position light then you have to unplug the left wing output from the Whelen Power Supply and then splice in 12v power from the strobe power supply input to the red wire in the output you just unplugged, then attach that red wire at the wingtip to the yellow wire to power the Uavionix strobe. Works great. Test flight passed, FAA rebate received!

Dude, all these people trying to tell you how to install the skybeacon are not giving all the simple info you need to know, or they don't know. It's real simple. I just installed the uAvionix sky beacon ADSB on my Comanche 260 which have a strobe. The ADSB skybeacon comes with 3 wires red, black and yellow. If you don't have a strobe and you want the strobe in the skybeacn to flash ( work) connect the black to ground, connect the red and yellow to red wire from the nav light. The the beacon will flash when you turn the nav lights on, if you don't want the light in the beacon to flash don't connect yellow wire , just tape and secure to the other wires. If you have a strobe on your airplane with a separate strobe switch, find the power box to the strobe lights, depend on how many strobe lights on your airplane, if you have 4 like my airplane find the power into the strobe box . find the wires going to the strobe to the left wing, unplug that , its real simple, just pull it off that will remove power from that strobe light in the left wing, thats what you want, there are 3 wires in that bundle take the red wire and hook it to the hot wire going to the strobe box. go to the wing and hookup the red wire from the nav light to the red wire from the ADSB, the black to ground go and turn the nav light on the ADSB should be working, now connect the yellow wire from the ADSB to the red wire that was powering the strobe. the strobe should work independently from the nav.
