- In this Jazz Drum Q-Tip of the Week drum set lesson, I break down and demonstrate grid and timing exercises for drum set. Grid and timing exercises are often used by DCI and marching band battery sections for warm ups. These grid and timing exercises can be very effective for drum set as well.

Great lesson Mr.Davis.What happened to LETS GOOOOOOOO?
I know, I know! I just wasn’t feeling it for this lesson but don’t worry, I haven’t abandoned it my man:)
Just in time for practice!
Glad I caught you in time for the shed Davey. As you know, time is my business my man:)
Had a busy day yesterday so I just took a deep dive, multiple repeat of this lesson and will spend as much time as I can in digesting this massive but delicious and nutritious souffle of a lesson. Thank you Master Chef Quincy Davis.
You rock my man! Glad you enjoyed what I prepared:)
Just what I looked for . Bravo 👏. Download after travell to instersrate QLD Australia tomorrow. Thanks again.
Cheers Mate!
Great content as always Quincy, the fact that you stress the importance of being musical while practicing is most welcomed. In my experience, the more "out" the concept your practicing, the more you should be concerned about making MUSIC with it. It is also important to challenge ourselves in the practice room with the hardest stuff we can get our hands on, while staying focused on the most important elements ( time feel, song form, melody etc). Your channel is a great source of inspiration my friend, keep it up!
Absolutely! The music should always be #1 no matter what we practice.
Thank you for this and also for the video with the metric modulation. Peace!
My pleasure!
This will take me to a challenging but welcome place... Another great lesson 🙏
Always happy to kick your butt a little PE:)
Cool! You've shown a way to make music! None of it sounded like an exercise yet it was musical and understandable. Thanks for some of the secret sauce!
That’s it Scotty. Ideally, every “exercise” leads very smoothly into making music once honed. Thanks as always my man👊🏾
Great!! Very very professional👍👍
I appreciate that Rob👊🏾
Thanks for posting Quincy, these are very good exercises. Greetings Erwin. 🎶🥁
My pleasure brother Erwin!

You know what time it is💪🏾
Great lesson! (I definitely need to hone up my reading skills).
You got this TC!
Always inspiring Q! What happened to the Q-tip sticks?
Thanks doc. I’ve been using these larger sticks lately. But I still use my sig stick.
You using the modern jazz collection vic firth nylon?
Do you have any of these that get into 5th tuplets 7tuplets
Something that would combine them but within smaller spaces as in a whole note..
Like 16ths to 5th tuples to 1/4 triplets.. Basically really hard. To get the feeling differences smoothly
I don’t have anything specifically on quintuplets and septuplets. Good idea for a future video. Thanks Ralphie
Hi Quincy I purchased the grid & timing exercises but I’m not sure was able to download the play along😮 please advice! Josie
The grid and timing exercise pdf does not have a play along. Have fun!
@@drumqtips
Oh Yes it does, I meant the video of You Mr Quincy play along, I’d downloaded it without realizing,
it really helps to see you playing and orchestrating the exercises off the page & onto the drums. Love yr lessons J 🤗

That intro! Wow... that was painful.
Sorry you didn’t like it. Was trying to demonstrate playing off of different grids in a groove as per the video topic. But I’ll keep working:)
I thought the intro was outstanding
