We don't know what the tallies are, canon hasn't officially given a reason. But, he does say in Rebels he never kept count of how many droids he killed (and there are too few for how many missions Rex has been on) so some people speculate it's tallies for men he's lost. Also Rex was based on Alpha 17 not Fordo

I appreciate the comment my guy! That’s a really cool idea about the Tallies, it’s definitely something that they could expand on in future projects. Alpha 17 was a badass! Gotta say Fordo is my favourite tho

Good thing is this figure isn’t actually very rare, just highly sought after by “scalpers” so I’m not very worried about that. I also love doing toy photography which is why I remove them from the packaging, it’s more valuable to me that way!
