I got this game on my birthday in -97 and I can´t even count how many times I have played it since then :) "Snowman´s lost his head" was the absolute last star I got in the game, back in -99 or so. The snowball always rolled right by his head, and I never understood how to steer it towards the head, haha!
How did you ever figure it out? Lol. I still remember we (siblings and I) accidentally figured it out while running away from the body and all collectively celebrated lol
@@NintenDeen Hehe, classic! It was almost the same for me. My brother said something like "Stand infront of the head and jump, punch and make some noice, so the snowball will notice you, and steer towards you". Then boom, 120 stars! A classic core memory from a videogame! ;)
Easily my favorite map in the game, the ice slide is a core memory. If I could have made just one change though, I’d have the baby penguin at the top of the mountain spawn in if you selected that specific star - otherwise have it spawn in already with its mother at the bottom of the level. I know that would have been within their capabilities. Did you ever see “The Penguin Problem” and “Mama’s Revenge” cartoons?
Shame that secret path of the slide was never shown. I almost always took it, because it was just so much safer. The real bad parts of the slide were after it anyhow.
@ there is a constant fear of falling off the mountain, and it's more of an icy stage, while snowmans land feels like a snowy christmas stage and I feel the music captures that perfectly
Literally, minus the falling off the mountain, I feel the exact same way you do except with the opposite stages 😂. I think the bully and the freezing water in SML stick out to me and make it feel less joyful. But i can see where you're coming from too
Not gonna lie ive always thought this was the easiest 100 coin star in the entire game. Actually its usually the onle 100 coin star that i grab on a casual playthrough just cuz theres so many coins on the slides it takes like no time at all
I can agree that on revisits it might be easier, but not the easiest. I remember this one used to give me problems. Especially if you miss the blue coins on the slide and haven't figured out the warps yet. There are just a lot of places to see and a lot of ways to die lol
The wall jump and the heart drove me nuts 😂. I believe starting from the Boo video the footage gets better. Can't remember. It's a mixture of a few different playthroughs from different family members, since I have a bunch of M64 stock footage that I've recorded from over a year ago with them haha. I usually replay games for videos so they can be more specific to what I'm discussing but 1) I have a ton of footage of M64 already. 2) this project has been the most time consuming from a script/audio side of things since it's so big. And 3) I'm planning on doing the DS game in a month or so and I didn't want to spoil that playthrough by playing the 2 of them so quickly back to back and feeling rushed/overwhelmed.

I STILL struggle with this one haha. Was also my family's last star
@@turntoyou if you google, there are still nonsense answers that don't work. That star is absolutely terribly designed.
Slides in M64 are pretty intense. Can't recall a lot of other games with slides like these.
Oh it's definitely super random. But such a fun addition
Loved the Super Metroid mention
Absolutely ingeneous and one of my favorite bits of teaching the player in all of gaming.
Likewise I love WKWW too
Thank you for talking about that turn on the slide. I always thought I was just bad at the game

That would've been cool, yeah. Also no I haven't seen them but I'm looking it up lol

I had a segment that I had to cut out from the video where I discussed it but my mic cut out and i did t have time to fix it -.-
Stage is pretty good, but I wish it had another soundtrack, a more ominous one, I like the music but it fits the second ice stage way better
That's funny, I think I have the opposite feeling haha. CCM feels like a cheery stage for me and SML feels like a depressing ominous setting

That gameplay was pretty painful to watch lol
Edit: the wall jump part… what the hell!
Yes. I let a younger family member get the footage for a few of the stages, someone that has only played this game a few times haha
@@NintenDeenokay I guess that’s fair. I beat this game at 5 years old but I’m sure there were a lot of stupid mistakes lol

If there's a Cool, Cool Mountain...is there a Lame, Lame Mountain?
🤔
Yes. I believe the game calls it “Tall, Tall Mountain”
😂
Very cool
😎
no idea what you’re talking about but i watched it all
Well I'm not sure if that's an algorithm failure or success, but either way thanks for watching!
@@NintenDeen success!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I upload daily. So if you have 10 mins to kill tomorrow feel free to sub 😂
Glad to see a brand new Mario 64 retrospective
Also First
Glad you're enjoying it! Have you been keeping up with my playlist or is this your first vid?
@@NintenDeen Just binged watched it!
I played the DS version of this game recently and I fucking hate this place. I'd play Rainbow Ride on loop before going back to this stage.
Oh wow. I'm double surprised because on the DS Luigi's backflip could easily break this stage
