Honestly, I'm in the same boat I was tired of PC cases being all about looks and not about function, so when I built my AMD 3950x system, I installed it in a Rosewill 4U Server Case (RSV-L4500) and mounted it in a 12u mini rack next to my desk, which I mounted a stained board ontop to place my desk light ontop. I run AMD 3950x/2x1080ti's/15x HHDs/2xSSD/M.2 NVME/EVGA1600W T2 PSU all on Unraid and use Windows 10 VM for gaming/streaming and editing in Linux at the same time. I went this route because I didn't have to separate my NAS and upgrade my network to 10g to have decent transfer and access speeds. Having it all connected to the motherboard in the same system is very quick. Plus unraid running my Plex server with windows vm turned off uses less power than my old intel 2700k NAS PC just being left on 24/7. I have the water-cooling separated from the main 4U Case.

I’m about to setup a case with a Ultra HD Blu-Ray optical drive for media ripping, but I would love to consider getting two if that’s something you think is beneficial. What are your uses? Thanks!
Did you use the R2 XL with an EEB motherboard? I plan a build based on an old dual CPU EEB server motherboard and I know that the 7 XL supports EEB boards but it's pretty expensive for my build, and so if the R2 XL also supports EEB boards that would save me a lot of money.
If you don't manage to get the fan curve issue sorted, you can try using software to control the speeds - I use Argus Monitor on Windows 10 to control my case fans and GPU fan based on monitored temperatures.

Nice build - do you know if you leave both HDD caddy's in - would there be enough room for the Corsair AX1200i (or a large psu). Also when you installed the DVD drives is there enough room for a 360 rad at the top?
Cool! Putting my 4K system together. Hard to get the right parts at the moment.😄 My optical drive sags down abit. How did you get yours to stay horizontal? What other support did you use? Disappointed in the flimsy small mounting thing I have for my Define 7!! Awesome build, by the way.
Do you think it's a good idea to put 280 at the front? I'd put at least 360 because of the more airflow and less dense heat output. Even 360 in my use-case gets way too hot for that air to be blowing on my gpu and motherboard. Always prefer to have the cpu exhaust on top. Let me know your experience

I'll have a total of 11 fans in the case, 4 of which will be high airflow ROG fans I've snatched from a Helios case I worked on at work. Can this be done in this case? I'm talking specifically the 3 140mm in the front, it's how I make sure there's some airflow. Is the airflow good with your current set-up even in high ambient temperature? Thanks
I have BeQuient Dark Base Pro 900 and love the size and flexibility. Also got my optical drive in it. I agree that there are not that many large cases out there.
09:00 the bracket is indeed for blocking one optical drive bays if you are only using on of them, but you have to plug it into the front panel, not the chassis itself (in your video you tried to plug it directly underneath your first optical drive without the front panel attached). That is also reasonable, because otherwise the drive bay and the bracket would not be lining up and you would have an ugly "hole" right in the front of your case.
Gotta give you credit from a fellow threadripper user, you are the literal perfect usecase for a tr platform. when people scoff at its pcie expandability all ill need to do is show them your setup.
Hey man i am considering getting this case (not the XL)... how did you manage to install the optical drives with one screw on each? How does the rear side (where the cables are) remain in place since there are no screws in that position?
Hello, I reviewed you and Wendal's videos and went ahead and purchased this 7XL case. I noticed an issue with mine. The glass door doesn't close fully at the top front of the case. What I noticed is that the front panel when it is fully flat against the frame the glass door won't close. In order for the door to close you have to pull the front panel away from the frame to create a gap and then the case door closes. I don't know if this is by design or my case as an issue. Could you tell me if your case has the same issue?
some critizizing here : why put your radiator in at the front pannel that has a horrible airflow since it is covered by 3 sheets of airconstraints instead of putting it on the top pannel? did you test that airflow? or do you leave the door open while editing? you have as i see it plenty of space at the topanel (that is removable to ease yoru installation of a radiator ) and you recieve a seperate topairflowpanel to increase the efficency of your cooling solution? and sorry english is my third language so my grammar might be bad.
It's under a desk. Putting radiator in top means either using it as exhaust and pulling very hot case air through it or using it as intake and hotboxing itself by pulling in exhaust right back into intake. Plus top means a lot more noise. This needs to be quiet. Front allows it to pull in cool air from front, exhaust in the back. Nothing terrible about it. Airflow is fine. Yes, under max loads I open the door as needed, that's why it's there.

Impressive case, very impressive computer build overall. I would love to have a set up like that someday with the live streaming and video capture cards. But I'm not a gamer. But could use the equipment for other live streaming purposes. I have thought also that optical drives where given up on by case manufacturer's glad to see fractal do this. I hope they put it as an option for new cases in the future for those of us whom still like to burn dvds for backups.

Thanks for the video. Actually made my buy that case. Would you mind sharing the 3D Files of those wheel adaptors ? I'd love to make it roll. It's just too heavy when competely rigged up :-D
it takes quite a while for them to get gunked up, and that doesn't change the fact that it's the best threadripper cooler when it is working. It'll last me until we get a custom loop going, and if not, Wendell made a video on flushing it and using custom liquid to fix it.
I've been waiting for something to replace my old FD Arc XL to fit more radiator surface, but still keeping my 2x5.25" front monitor, and it seemed like an impossible case to find, as most cases now days don't have any optical drive slots, or at the most have 1 of them. Really exited about this case.
Fractal Design have been my favorite case brand since they came out and the new meshify cases address the biggest shortcoming they have had imho which is thermals. So nice to be able to get a decent case with a lot of space and drive bays with no stupid lights or glass side. I know thismakes me a dinosaur in this day and age but I don't care. Nice rig btw!
I wish all programmers and developers gets a hand on these kind of computers, these kind of processors aren't just for video production and gaming alone, these type of processors are better off with programmers, software developers and game developers, remember Eric S. Raymond used to have a Intel Core 2 duo as his daily driver maintaining the GPSD that's running on your smartphones, satellites and robot submarines.
My favorite "function over form" workstation chassis is the Supermicro SuperChassis 747. * Redundant, 1620 watts, 80-plus Platinum PSUs * 8x hot-swap SAS/SATA backplane with 8 discrete connections for the MB/HBA/RAID-card * 11x full-length expansion slots * Optional rack mount kit * Hot-swap PWM fans like you're used to in commercial chassis Also, no RGB. :p Oh, and not a good choice for water cooling. It's not cheap though. :/ You could get about 5 of the Define 7 XLs for the price of one of the SuperMicros. :o Oof! I guess to compare apples to apples, you'd include the price of two PSUs, but still, it stings. You're in Case Labs (RIP) budget range.

Did you watch Gamers Nexus video on this case? Dont get me wrong this is a great case and Fractal makes great cases but I would remove that front filter. I know dust is an issue with all cases even with dust filters, just not as much, but the amount of degrees dropped is definitely worth it.
Given the max temperature I've seen on my cpu under full load is like 60c and my case is in the floor, no its definitely not worth it. Airflow is not the number 1 priority of every build.

@@isaaccosand Save space on table. Otherwise you sholud use external box with same functionality. One more flaw this case has: There is power LED only and not HDD LED. If you want HDD LED, you can attach LED to HDD activity, but you do not have power LED then.
What custom power cables are these? Cable Mod?
Yes
@@EposVox Thanks!
This is Awesome! You built an almost identical Computer to the one My editor built for her editing rig so we can edit 8k60fps footage.
I've been telling everyone this is the year of 8K
Do you have 8k RAW footage???? or is that workstation going to be editing your UA-cam videos?
The two are not mutually exclusive
Thanks for the video. Actually made my buy that case. Would you mind sharing the 3D Files of those wheel adaptors ? I'd love to make it roll. It's just too heavy when competely rigged up :-D
Weren’t there a bunch of reports of Enermax coolers getting horribly gunned up and corroded a couple months back? Has that been addressed and tested?
it takes quite a while for them to get gunked up, and that doesn't change the fact that it's the best threadripper cooler when it is working. It'll last me until we get a custom loop going, and if not, Wendell made a video on flushing it and using custom liquid to fix it.
Thank you! I have an old Lian li 2000f and I guess that's what I'll always have.
im sure you probably did by now but set your fan curve to PWM in BIOS
I've been waiting for something to replace my old FD Arc XL to fit more radiator surface, but still keeping my 2x5.25" front monitor, and it seemed like an impossible case to find, as most cases now days don't have any optical drive slots, or at the most have 1 of them. Really exited about this case.
Will this be your gaming pc also, or only to render and capture?
Everything!!
Does it Come with the 5.25" drive caddys??
Fractal Design have been my favorite case brand since they came out and the new meshify cases address the biggest shortcoming they have had imho which is thermals. So nice to be able to get a decent case with a lot of space and drive bays with no stupid lights or glass side. I know thismakes me a dinosaur in this day and age but I don't care. Nice rig btw!
Wheels! Fancy. Probably cost you leg and arm. Like Apple ones.
Wheels themselves were 20 bucks, then just the cost of 3d printing the mounts
I wish all programmers and developers gets a hand on these kind of computers, these kind of processors aren't just for video production and gaming alone, these type of processors are better off with programmers, software developers and game developers, remember Eric S. Raymond used to have a Intel Core 2 duo as his daily driver maintaining the GPSD that's running on your smartphones, satellites and robot submarines.
How abot replacing one of optical drives with more io? I have seen some adaptors for that
Eh, I don't use a lot of front IO and that's impossible to use with the door shut, and all my extra USB headers are already routed to the back
Where do I get this wheels?
NZXT H440 is my favorite case of all time. To hell with optical drives!
Should have gone with NVLINK Titan's.
Absolutely not
7 XL all white I would have liked. Black makes the room look smaller.
Hello what is the purpose of moving the camera from left to right. I find it gives a horrible effect.
My favorite "function over form" workstation chassis is the Supermicro SuperChassis 747.
* Redundant, 1620 watts, 80-plus Platinum PSUs
* 8x hot-swap SAS/SATA backplane with 8 discrete connections for the MB/HBA/RAID-card
* 11x full-length expansion slots
* Optional rack mount kit
* Hot-swap PWM fans like you're used to in commercial chassis
Also, no RGB.
Bet that thing has hurricane force winds! Definitely not usable for video editing or having it under your desk.
I hope the splitter on the bluray drives hold out for ya. I've had a couple of those go bad. :P
I've had good luck with these, bad luck with molex to sata. Lots of melted ones
Why raid 0 on the spinning HDs? Is software raid on Windows good enough?
I only have 1 spinning HDD. the raid0 is on nvme and sata ssd
Are the feet and IO panel removable?
Yes
Looking forward the review of the Decklink Quad HDMI. Thanks for your amazing video 🙂🙌🏻
Nice review but my god that back n forth motion of the camera for the speeded up bits was obnoxious!! just cause you can do something, doesn't mean you should do something. Either keep it stationary or have the camera moving waaaaay slower as you record next time please!
Isn't optical media that you can write to volatile? Might be unreadable in a few years when you need them.
Nah the modern bluray stuff isn't quite as volatile. And besides that "a few years" is like... 30+
@@EposVox decent, glad I was wrong!
HTL blu-ray media is IMHO the best long term archival backup media available today for the general consumer, and arguably for small business as well.
WOW! That case is THICC!!!! :O
I still use my old Coolermaster HAF-932. Still one of the best cases out there.
Oh man I wish I still had mine!
@@EposVox I did a full disassembly and blacked out the whole interior, Keeps everything a lot cooler then any of the newer cases I have tried, plus so much room for storage. Although that Define 7 might get me to upgrade.
@@EposVox Is that temperature with the door open or closed? Either way, then nevermind, that still impressive for that AIO.
Usually closed but if I know it'll be an intense render I'll open it
10k. Damn that is a ton of money.
Still does a shitload more than an equilivent 10k Mac Pro though =)
could you please make the stl files of the wheel holders available? thanks
Awesome case dude. Great video as always. Can this case be purchased? Also, dat Decklink! 4 inputs, at the same time, no switching????😲🤔
Correct!
Not going to lie I watched the video so wouldn't be to shocked at the size of the regular Define 7 I just bought.
Spinning rust HD storage haha yup some legacy jazz ads character. Please refrain from lobbing sticker snot all over the top of that beautiful case. Cheers!
+EposVox, you should have gone with NVLINK Titan GPU's.
Definitely not
