TBH It sounds like people showed up late and didn’t respect the first come first show policy and was outside causing havoc which shut the entire graduation down. Smh

Howard's typical lack of organization. They elected not to make tickets available, then the dean lied by stating that DCFD was shut down the ceremony.

If they were at capacity then that's it.
Of course they usually give a certain amount of tickets or whatever for the student.
So maybe do that next time..

If the graduation really was important, dad and grandma would stay.

    • @galndixie
      @galndixie 6 місяців тому +1

Maybe they thought it was over and done with. Maybe they hadn't been told yet that they would do it another day. Maybe they couldn't stay, hotel rooms and meals are expensive, they may not have had the extra money. One or both of them might have medications at home that they didn't bring with them because they were planning on going straight home. They could possibly have had jobs they had to be at and couldn't stay. There's a lot of reasons, but I doubt thinking it wasn't important was one of them. That was an illogical, rude and insensitive comment.

Why wasn’t it done at the convention center? If the convention center can house 16,000 AKAs for a dinner, it could hold the graduation.

You can’t be on time and not get a seat whose fault is it. Self responsibility. If it was my daughter graduating I’d be first in f line

It’s almost like some people are unable to grasp the consequences of their actions …. Also. Ok that kind of is sad you can’t see them walk. But the point was to get the degree to get a better job, wasn’t it? You’re not able to at least celebrate that privately ?

This is bc our society puts more emphasis on accolades than on the import and value of substance. Graduate and go to work on your career.

Sounds like poor planning on the part of the school. Do the math: (Room Capacity - Seating for staff)/ number of graduates= number of tickets per graduate. This looks so bad for the Black nation.

@mustard_cat322: YES. Maybe it's not a big deal to some, but to others, it is. It MEANS SOMETHING. Especially when you you've been waiting your entire LIFE as well as your Parent's, who have ALL worked hard, poured their 💵💵's, blood, sweat and tears into your education FROM K1, to college. "NEVER, EVER" missed a day of schl, "EVER", FROM K1 thru' college. "ALWAYS" an A++ studentWas in the newspapers for being THAT, student. As in the case of my oldest GrandDaughter. Thurs, May 9Th. She didn't walk. Never saw the stage. Her ceremonies were shut, down. Because of the Insanity that went on there.
      Yes.

I am so very sad for the graduates. Graduating from college for me was a big deal. I worked very hard and that day was very special. My grandmother flew across the country to be with my family. To have that day ruined for those. Kids is absolutely horrible. The adults act like children and the children act like adults. Houston, we have a problem!

I blame both Howard and the parents. The parents for not being in time and Howard not allocating tickets.
I went to an elite high school with a very good athletic program. Part of being upper class man it was our responsibility to take other jr classmates athletes under our wing. We called each other big brother little brother and took it seriously. We made sure they did well in academics and sports. Stayed out of trouble and had someone to talk to if they had any issues at home or at school. I wish public schools had these kind of programs. I remember one of mine when I was a freshman. Her father was a senator and we had a freshman senior dance and she took me. She always made sure I was ok and when my mother died of breast cancer. She and her family was there for me. If we could do these things in schools I think we would have a better country. I will complain and say. This was afforded to the privileged as I was. It’s not for r the everyday students. But it should be.
One of my little went to Howard to play basketball so I have a lot respect for that school when he graduated he sent me a ticket to view his graduation. At that time I was a Navy …. And couldn’t make it. So I sent my younger brother in for me. Howard was a great school they allowed him to thrive more in one of the greatest cities in the world I pushed him to go there because when we went on a field vacation for a week in dc and later to Hawaii for the close up foundation it changed my life.
Another thing all high school students should do is the close up foundation. I know it’s expensive and hard to get into in some school system. But going to dc. Meeting your senators and congressmen, Supreme Court justices and even president is life changing.
