I love Sabaton because they manage to be a powermetal band that makes you cry because the themes are genuinely sad. I guess it's not just the lyrics, because even without those, I can imagine myself on the battlefield.

I feel like they both are perfect in their own rights. The pace of the original is perfect in that it matches the chaos of the battlefield over he 303 days. The pace of this cover is perfect in that it kinda gives a visualization to the hopelessness the soldiers must have faced during the battle.
Sabaton, there was a dude in WWII who was a rifleman and was transferred to a medic because of his beliefs in not wanting to use a gun. His name is Desmond Doss. Despite him being disliked for a while, he still pushed on to do his duty as a Medic. He mainly served in 1944 in the Pacific against the Japanese. You guys should really do a song on him because he seems quite interesting and it's up to you guys to make the song about him. Also, Desmond never killed anyone in war. He was a 7th Day Adventist. He wanted Saturday off instead of Sundays.

It's a new thing, off their upcoming album.
It is a cover as the original was made by Sabaton, but in order to hype the single (Fields of Verdun), they gave Apocalyptica the honors to release their instrumental symphonic cover prior to the release of the original song. Or in short, this is a cover of a yet to be released song.
