  • A method of synthesis of Iron oxide Nanoparticles is explained. 50 mL of 0.2M Fe3+ salt solution (FeCl3) and 50 mL of 0.1M Fe2+ (FeSO4) was added to FeCl3 solution and stirred for 15 min. Then NH4OH was added dropwise until pH 11 and stirred further for 20 min.

In magnetite fe3O4, the fe3+ concentration must be twice of fe2+ which you didn't do that.
    2Fe3+ + Fe2+ + 8OH- - - - > Fe3O4 + 4 H2O

@ Akshay Jangam if you want to use ethylene glycol as the solvent. Just prepare the Fe2+ and F3+ solutions in 50% water and 50% ethylene glycol. After mixing the precursor solutions, heat the reaction mixture in a sealed autoclave at 180 C for 12 hours. You will get iron oxide nanoparticles.

    • @WorldofNanotechnology

The amount of materials required is dependent on the chemical equation. The stoichiometric ratio between the reactants is needed to calculate the amount. The pH of the reaction decides how much NH4OH is to be added.
I will make a video on standard hydrothermal process and upload.

Hello! I am currently synthesizing MNPs in a similar way. I am having trouble getting my NPs hydrodynamic size down to 50 nm. I have a few questions:
    1) what is the time span that I should add the base? I did 10 and 20 minutes time intervals and notices a 100 nm decrease in size but it's still at 300 nm
    2) Do you dry your particles? If so, why? I have noticed this in many literatures and I have also noticed that after a long period in water, the particles seem to degregate.
    3) do you use an acid to dissolve the dried particles? Or just water?
Sorry for the ton of questions but with all the papers I have read, I can't get the specifics that I need to get quality NPs.

50 mL of 0.2M Fe3+ salt solution (FeCl3) and 50 mL of 0.1M Fe2+ (FeSO4) was added to FeCl3 solution and stirred for 15 min. Then NH4OH was added dropwise until pH 11 and stirred further for 20 min.

    • @WorldofNanotechnology

I mixed the Fe3O4 nanoparticles with oil to make ferrofluids. The best result is obtained with motor oil. If motor oil is not available you can mix even vegetable oil or silicone oil.
If you dont want ferrofluid then no need to mix with oil.
