I worked out that on my fs 38 when you wind the new line on , it must be put on as tight as you can get it , that way it won’t jam up . If the line is to loose it will jam and not feed out properly.

How can you tell? It just winds up when you crank the head?

The issue with mine is that, the line seems to melt onto the spool, not a lot but just enough to not feed, what can I do to prevent it from doing that?

Melt? I've never heard of that. That's insane

Had this problem too. Lube the inside of the head with Stihl gear grease. There's videos out there showing how, it'll keep the head cooler, which keeps the spool cooler.

I have a Stihl 110 combi tool with a string trimmer attachment. I have found that despite my best attempts I find the line breaks frequently. I don’t know if it’s me or the equipment. I buy everything at the same place. I have two heads & I have a 1/4 acre lot that I need to restring 3 times. It neither feeds & the line breaks a lot. I contacted Stihl about the issue & they suggested filling a bucket of water & placing the whole spool in it. That didn’t work the following spring despite having the spool in water from November to April.
I have been using the same tool & string with unsatisfactory results. I’m ready to throw my line out & buy a brush cutter head & doing everything the hard way? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I used a bucket of hot water 10 minutes for the line only before putting it on the spool , hot enough not to burn your hand either works or works because the new spool of line is newly manufactured .

@@thefunfactory61 I did one better. I farmed all that work out now. I don’t have to lift a finger. Somebody else does it. I’ll keep my equipment incase he can’t make it? By the time I go back to doing it myself after I retire maybe there will be another way to do it?

Those trimmers are extremely simplistic and that is what make them so great. Thanks for the video.

Too bad you can't figure it out. I wonder what is really useless because this is not hard to do.
