I came to The USA in 2016. Worked in Mumbai for a few years before that. All things aside, I know I was living weekend life there. Used to leave home at 8 am to only come back 9-10 pm. Because of the bad roads, traffic and what not. After coming to US, I realized that your job is not supposed to be your life. There's so much more to it. Now I get time for kids, family and even my hobbies post work hours. Not just on weekends but also on weekdays. Also, I couldn't put more emphasis on the working environment being so much better here. I realized that people aren't looking at you as a machine but they really care about your well-being. Whereas back in India, bosses won't even hesitate calling you late hours or weekends to ask about different kind of statuses, reports and stuff.
That master-slave mentality is rooted deep in our systems, both private and government.
Don't want to bash my country, I just love India. But things said in here are too biased and straight up calling NRIs like they don't know anything about working there. Peace ✌🏼😇

As a recent NRI, just moved to US in 2018, aged 27 currently, i have couple of things to add. Its just not about opportunities in India. I have lived in Bangalore all my life. I agree that opportunities are increasing in India overall. But its the quality of life US/Canada/Australia provides to the people.
In US we pay 27%-32% tax here, and we get best roads, free education for kids till 12th, and the quality of life.
But in India we pay 20% tax, and what for? Potholes in roads, floods everywhere in monsoon, they put a new road today and after a week its dug up for something else, traffic(which can be ok if we use publix transport), and edication is soo expensive, and government schools are not worth going to fir students.
On top of all this, we have to struggle for everything(doctors, lowyers, policemen) for whom we have to bribe for everything. I am saying this because i have experienced it myself as i bought a home in bangalore 5 months back, and the amount of bribes i had to give to officials just to do their job is just hilarious. I have never bribed anyone in US to get my job done!! As an NRI, i value my time over money. If a task gets done in 1 week by bribing 1lakh rupees, thats fine with me than wasting my 1-2 months of time. 5 years back, if i had to do this, i could not afford to bribe 1 lakh. Everyone else may not have this luxury.
And the reason for me to come to US to do my Masters was reservations amd quotas.
Even though i was talented enough, i did not get education in the college i wanted because of reservation system. And the same thing happened during Jobs after undergrad. As a teenager, you obviously get the thought that if i am not being respected here, then i will go to a place where my skills are valued.
And considering these, i would still say, india is moving in the right direction, baby steps are taken, but still a very long way to go.

I'm not sure, I heard "this is the best time to be a young indian" back in 2002, and then again in 2005. I believe what this guy is saying but that time has not come yet, maybe in another 3 or 4 years as the US dollar will most probably get weaker and the economic incentive to come here will be a lot less. My dad left India back in the 60s with the hope he'd move back, but that never happened. Having said that Modi really put India to the international stage that's for sure. When I was a kid the reputation of India was so bad that I used to ashamed to tell my classmates my parents came from India, now because of Modi every person of Indian origin is proud to announce they are from India!

India has people, talent and compassion to make things happen. However, discipline is missing. Compare China or other Asian nations, we should accept our mistakes and raise higher. Our political system, finance, governance are all super old. Change boldly and see how it works. Lastly, keep media and legal under control, not sell them to private firms. US, UK are still inflating our exchange and making us poor, many countries are richer than these two. There is nothing much left in the English world!

I hear stories and I know lot of cases where the private school education is so expensive. It’s funny how the whole discussion was about IT sector only. They are lots of other sectors such as Civil, Electrical, Chemical Engineers etc. who want to return to India but just can’t because of low salaries. I heard the companies are still offering same pay range as they used to offer in 2014 when I graduated from my bachelor’s and came to US for Masters.
I have friends here who came to US because they were victims of reservation quota in cutoffs, promotion etc. Some just couldn’t start the business because of long tiring papertrail and bribe at every step to clear the process, some for exceptionally low salaries in non-IT sectors etc.
Banks are not interested in promoting younger generations of non-IT sector to provide loans for MSME sectors. They are fine giving loans to people like Malya etc. I would say with India’s current leadership, we are on a right path but are not just there yet to convince that Indian diaspora. Jai Hind!

One of the other issues with Indian IT firms is that they have no concept of educating employees on diversity and inclusion and by DEI I did not mean womens in workforce, I guess we have made great progress their in last few years. It is employees who comes under LGBTQ umbrella, divorced man and woman, single man/woman post 35 year age. These audience is very vulnerable in Indian IT industry. Most of the talents coming in IT sector is coming from small towns. These folks have no education about lgbtq and in most instances made fun of the lgbtq friends in college and schools. Since Indian education system is all about competition, a lot of lgbtq employees face hard time at work since their peers use sexual orientation as a way to put their LGBTQ colleagues down. Education is needed in Indian IT companies to end the mindsets of competitions which a lot of folks graduating from educational institute brings along with them. I tell you my own experience when I was graduating from collage, I had a friend in my hostel who used to beat me up on the day of exams and shout me by names like chkkas specially during the time of exams since he knew that these actions kills my confidence and that was the only way for my friend to score higher score than me since he was not able to compete with me fairly. A lot of my other friends in hostel used same way to put me down. I can give you examples of Indians graduating from Americans university forcing their gay friends out of apartments and being very discriminatory at work in us companies. For these same Indians, it is not an issue for other LGBTQ Americans to be LGBTQ and these same Indians try to lick their foots but when an Indian colleague of theirs try to keep their personal life Private, these narcissistic straight Indian IT staff use that as an avenue to put their LGBTQ Indian peers down. It is not a specific or personal issue but it is happening at a large extent in Indian IT companies. It is surprising that a lot of my Indian co-workers working in USA don't know what LGBTQ means and they thinks the rainbow logo of company corresponds to monsoon season in India. HR needs to take LGBTQ education seriously. A large chunks of LGBTQ Indian crowd lives outside India and works as reputed professors and CEOs. In many cases they ruin their life and a woman's life by succumbing to pressures from peers for getting married.

It's very soothing to hear all this dialogues and offers. Once you get into doing something in India you will know the reality. One small hurdle or delay, your banker will turn against you first. Then the whole system will turn against you. You will have to go through hell then. NPA ! No money, no support not even the ministry will come up with a helping hand, to mention they won't even respond to our grievances and desperate call for help. We are struggling with our Ethanol manufacturing plant in Karnataka.
I'm an young upcoming Industrialist, following the foot steps of my late Father, he was an Industrialist, a visionary, a great honest man who suffered and struggled, and finally lost his life without seeing his dream project coming into life. All because he wanted to build a great public limited organisation to provide numerous jobs and livelihood to the talented, poor and the needy. He wanted to develop the whole region. To bring prosperity and stability to the masses and of course to contribute in a big way to support our economy, by spending, investing crores and crores of money ! Hmm. It is what it is !
First Help the needy, support the struggling, instead of marketing to lure in new businesses and entrepreneurs. encouraging new entrepreneurs and industries and startups are good but what about the ones who are facing challenges and suffering with their ongoing businesses? Ridiculous man. This will never happen in USA or other countries, now that's the difference. Take it from me, as I discuss with top level bankers in India as well as overseas.! Put me in a podcast, I will explain the reality.!

"for all those people who think that India is a difficult place to do business, we are a shining example of a company that survived a difficult business environment and today are one of the most successful companies in the country "
The reason why America is successful is because their people worked hard through tough times, through great depression to become one of the largest economies in the world
It takes effort, lots of effort to be an industrialist, there are a whole host of challenges but it is very much doable, Dhirubhai Ambani also built his business from scratch. If they can, so can you but it is certainly not easy. Yet it is very rewarding

My Point is, govt & authorities are supposed to primarily support the struggling on-going projects, which are very much alive and viable & with a huge potential to create jobs, and support the economy rather than going around marketing about the ease of doing business and reverse brain drain and urging new entrepreneurs to emerge ! Come on ! That's absurd. Focus more on revival. I'm sure you have no idea about all this. You only know about the Tatas and Ambanis, typical Indian 🤷🏻‍♂️ we have taken humongous risk to build this industry from the scratch. With that said,I have nothing to prove nor explain to people like you. BJP govt has indeed changed the whole scenario of Indian economy for good by introducing and bringing up so many amendments to the administration, rules and regulations.
However, like the Counsel-Genaral of Japan stated during GIM conference in Bangalore, "Unfortunately after the single window clearance, there are so many other windows to be cleared which people are not aware of and that's when things get bumpy" sad reality. We are a living example of it. Still we never gave up, I don't give up, we will do it no matter what ! Holding a BTech degree doesn't make one an engineer, millions of them have it, you need to have the knowledge of an engineer to truly qualify as one. The main problem in India is that the education system produces a few good engineers while the vast majority is unskilled with worthless degrees
The problem is much of the qualified talent leaves india, not because they are treated like shit, but because they find opportunities elsewhere. I am not asking you to not go for opportunities outside India, but unless that top talent comes back and makes a change back home, nothing would change, the top talent has the potential to create jobs in India. Instead we see them complaining more. It may seem daring to take a risk, come back to India and then start a company, but who knows? It could be worth it. 1. People who immigrate do not just stay there or come back for the opportunity or lack of it. You build a life where you go, you belong, you build your community, it is not just 'coz you can have a good job or not. This is basic human nature.
    2. Ministers can beat the drums as much they can, only who experience know the difference in quality of life.
    3. No, people who are abroad do not only go and join big companies and do donkey work. Go check the number of startups and execs in big companies alike. Indians have heavy presence. It is very juvenile argument to point out layoffs by meta and google, it is part and parcel of every business nothing to do about a country.
    4. People of a country controbuting doesnt have to be only by them dropping everything and coming back. That argument is very narrow minded and not grounded in practicality. More spread out a nation's younth/innovators or even an ethnicity (think jews) they expand our horizons, the knowledge and the network that makes them even more effectively contribute to build the next gen.
The fact that it has become such a US vs them argument in everything and the vibe of holier than thou attitude towards NRIs by those who want to be physically be in India has only gotten increasingly offputting convo that is not grounded in substance.

Stop kissing NRi asses. They went for money, they will come for money - it's as simple as that. I am not even blaming them, it's just human nature to run behind the money.

Rubbish your just taking wrt entrepreneurs wht about employees
As an employee I can always make more money in the states that's wht even china which is kind of technically developed employees try to go to abroad to get a job (again from an employee perspective not from and not from an entrepreneur perspective)
So as an employee I am sure I can never make very good money from India even if India develops or becomes equal to china

Reservation is the reason we will never return and never want our kids to return. We can live in poverty somewhere else if we have to. Atleast we will have respect and value for our hard work.

Sorry I'm not American Indian. I'm a proud ndian American. No longer can anyone tell me anything that isn't true about my culture and origin as I was taught in school and by other ignorant people. Indian culture is hands down the best in the world. The west where I was born I'd a failing society full of deviants

Indian American here too. N largely agree.
We need to work harder towards converting non-indian Americans to the Dharmic fold. I think that's the future.
