I played the first and third movement while in college for some electives. When I got to the point of playing without stopping, this concerto become nothing but fun fun fun to play. Prokofiev, I love you!
His tempo at the very end is quite a bit slower than most. I find that much more enjoyable compared to how it's rushed through today almost as if to show off the virtuosity of the player. If only we could hear all the great masters play their own music.
It’s not his interpretation it’s him playing his own version the way he wrote it other people can interpret it the way they won’t but the way that this is it would not be considered an interpretation this is the original version
wow. this concerto comes to LIFE under Prokofiev's hands. And reflects the spirit of his time. Living interpretations are so... vulgar: they emphasize the easy affects, the common denominator, the technical, reflecting, I guess, the spirit of our time.
Not only your musicchoice is wonderful (thank you for the share, my friend nairigrigorian!!!), but I also your channel is "full" of Tesla!!! :-) Roeleke
@cubanbach The music ORIGINATED in the composer's mind...he/she discerns it in its purest state...hears it as it's more sublime. THEN he/she has to drag it down into the realm of senses and convert it into notes to be played by and listened to others who have no idea what they are hearing. These newcomers have to interpret the composer's fare according to their own experience. Sometimes these listeners cop attitudes & imagine they know a composer's music better than he. Yeah, right...

Prokofiev, I love you!
6:51 to the end is simply glorious! I always love hearing the composer playing their own works.
Brilliant, just brilliant.

EPIC. Nothing short of. 8:11 is one of my favorite moments in music, anywhere.

great!
ahhh thank you! How did you get this recording?
very nice
I love the way he plays the laugh theme, and then dives into the Rachmaninoff joke with great pseudo-passion...
The third part is the BEST!!!
wow
@cearbhaill Me too. It is one of the greatest moments in all music. I'm glad I'm not the only one :)
GREAT PROKOFIEV!!! мощь!
@cheradinine8 Could you elaborate.
@vocalpianist i think it's the other way round LOL prokofiev came first :P but yes, i love argerich's performance

I think the composer knows his tempo. :)
@weedermann Think about it, Weedermann...
Rarely do you hear someone work better with their orchestra than that, maybe never.
5*****
its funny but at certain parts it is uncannily similar to Argerich's interpretation
@slateflash How can a composer "interpret" his OWN music.
true. but i think pianos back then have really heavy keys, compared to pianos now.
