Oh... Ironically now, if such a crisis occurred now, no such British Naval Task Force could be formed. I presume the Red Sea and Yemen crisis prompted this video archive retrieval.
There was a reversal of the Navy cuts post Falklands. But look where we are now, totally gutted with insufficient personnel to crew what vessels we have left. At the time I was in the British army at the time and 1982 was a time of great change
@@westerncherokeewireless642 i believe there was a plan for US involvement if the UK military operation failed. The US had come to the conclusion that its closest ally could not be defeated in this operation. Which I think was the right decision for both the US and UK, thankfully the UK achieved a complete victory without direct US military intervention.
I saw analysis on another channel on UA-cam that projected that within 10 years Argentina could retake the Falklands Islands / Islas Malvinas with only a little military logistical support from China and/Russia. The trigger would be the UK effectively being in a self inflicted, crippling economic crisis. more of a case of when, not if.
People spoke with such authority and confidence back then, perhaps it's because these days you just have to look a certain way to get positions, it's not a meritocracy anymore.
2 voices I could listen to all day and wish would narrate my life is John Facenda of NFL films and Denis Touey of Thames TV. Not sure if I spelled Denis's name correctly but I heard him voice over a documentary in 1972 about Jesus Freaks and I just loved his voice and approach
I served on HMS Bacchante during the falklands War. We returned home at the end of August, on the way back we picked up some New Zealand navy personnel at ascension Island. We came back into portsmouth and that was it, ship was sold and became HMNZS Wellington. Government will always look at the budget before it uses common sense.

Don’t worry it won’t happen again. Thatcher isn’t here to gamble soldiers lives for votes.
Yes it could be formed. I even know that, and I'm American.

I was in usmc boot camp then, the drill instructors howled that we'd be shipping out to Argentina after graduation. 😅

@@michaelsalt4565 MG Julian Thompson is an excellent example of leadership by example. I wish the US had more men like him.

"If that doesn't, what the HELL will?"
Well said.
I read the UK was mothballing 2 ships due to lack of manpower. The US is not too far behind, I'm afraid.
it now has woman power. so good luck with it all......
Very important ships if we were to have a Falklands war or similar again because they are assault landing ships

Very thoughtful presentation.
When Britain had a navy, such a demise.
Look at our Navy today. It's a shame.
its not a shame. it is a result of your own actions. but still, at least house prices are the highest they have ever been !!
