Hello to you. I often played this track ( Naima) + all other tracks when bought this album in 1960. ( see my comment on this site )Naima, was the name of John Coltrane, first wife. Sorry for being boringly nostalgic. Peace to all.
@@berachtdorian6191Jimmy Cobb plays drums in this track. Elvin is not on the date at all. Art Taylor and Lex Humphries are the drummers along with Cobb on this track who play on the album!

Quando ascolto Coltrane mi sento intoccabile. Mi invade una Grazie e una gioia che mi libera da ogni vincolo e da ogni affanno di questa misera vita. Grazie. Maria
One of my dear friends was named Naima... And she was a kind, gentle soul who always loved us. Rest in peace, Naims. I'm sure you're up there with John, noodling on your piano as he plays a sentimental tune.
This song is masterfully interpreted by one of the greatest musical minds of time. It can sooth the soul and the mood is so perfectly set. ... John Coltrane.
Yes. This is the kind of song that I would nominate to be sent in a capsule into space for the Extra-Terrestrials to see the best of what earthlings have to offer. :)
The tune is a masterful combination of simplicity and complexity that derives its sophistication from incorporating several tonal layers throughout the piece.
Happy Happy 94th Birthday John Coltrane! You are still so very missed! Of all your songs and they are all wonderful, this one is my favorite. I can listen to this all year.
I agree! I used to just vibe out to this on repeat actually his whole greatest hits CD when in the mood for it! But John Coltrane the first jazz musician I started liking and then started educating myself on some of the other legends 🔊🎶🎷🔥💆🏽♀️💯💓 #Vibin
My ideal dream heaven in about 10 years from now that nobody asked for, is sitting at a jazz bar with a live band playing this song while I'm reminiscing about the good times of my youth. 💓
I found this song while attending a film showing in Poland. Wasn't normally my scene but the girl I was with wanted to check it out. Forget the name of the film, it was some Polish indie film about 1950s Poland under communism. The main character's love interest was a saxophonist and I remember him playing this song in the movie and it instantly caught my ear. I spent the rest of my time in Poland listening to this song. Every time it reminds me of her and our time endlessly spent in this cafe in the town square of Przemyśl, writing papers for school and discussing topics I never thought I would. All the while this song often playing in the background. Simpler times for sure, what I'd give to go back. Even just for one day.
It's sad to think there are people out there who have never heard this..or heard Coltrane, period. One could float to heaven, nirvana, utopia...listening to this gorgeous tune. Love it.
One of my dear pets was named Naima... And she was a kind, gentle soul who always loved us. Rest in peace, Naims. I'm sure you're up there with John, noodling in your dog bowl as he plays a sentimental tune.
I bought this album from : Hime and Addison, John Dalton Street, Manchester, U.K. in 1960. I was twenty years of age at that time. My favourite tracks at that time was Giant Steps + Countdown. Sorry for being boringly nostalgic. Peace to all !!!
youre the same age as my dad! although he doesnt know about John Coltrane, hehehe... I just explained it to him. What a glorious thing to have lived in that time, when Coltrane was at his peak.... I was born in 72 and im gutted that its out of my time, no way to see him live, but at least we have the recordings :) peace to you as well....
In the early Sixties, the song was printed (without memorable comment) in an issue of _Downbeat_. Still in my teens, I was lucky enough to find it and learn heaps. What seem like chord changes are suspensions on two tones a fifth apart -- Eb and Bb if memory serves. And yet it has the story-telling power of the blues.
Daniel I was a guitar player for years and then slowed down and kind of got away from the music.. am now 65 yrs.old and taking off on the 🎷 and this is the song I am teaching myself... Keep the music close

Beautiful, congratulations!!! 🙂 The love its the only way
beautiful name in the middle east and asia .. .
I love how incredibly soft the drummer is playing
Yes. The feel he achieves is so so so amazing.
You're right. Elvin Jones seldom gets credit for the more sensitive aspects of his playing.

One of the most wonderful recordings of all time.
No doubt!
On some nice headphones... separation is phenomenal.
yeah
Just heard this exquisitely played piece on a movie I'm watching. Googled it and omg, I'm in love with Coltrane. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤❤
Indeed.
Sooooooo Lucky to Be ALIVE and hearing This over n over Again.
When I feel bad or sad, sometimes it happens, I listen to Naima and everything goes better......
Most beautiful last note of ANY song. PERIOD
Definily!
i think infant eyes by wayne shorter edges it by just a little bit because music is a competition to see who's the best.

What a masterpiece, unconventional harmonies but full of soul... Wynton Kelly's solo is mind-blowing, a gem.
No doubt
Don't think it's Wynton Kelly on this album. I'm pretty sure it's Tommy Flanagan. And, yes, his playing here (and most everywhere else) is beautiful.
@@DESKWERKSJB it's Wynton just there

I love Jazz. Forever John Coltrane!
my left ear is interested, my right ear is soothed, my body is relaxed.
It is such a lovely ballad. Hauntingly melancholy. It is perfection!
I genuinely wish this song was longer.

Without question one of the best Love Letters if not the best Love Letter ever composed!!!
This song was on a playlist that my daughter came into the world to.
