i love hyundai, and i still cant believe that this is a hyundai im impressed what hyundai has done and how far they have come car after car they are becoming more of a luxury brand then anything and the same goes for kia. they have been fixing their handling and ride quality on all of their cars and i wouldnt ever hesitate to buy or even recommend their cars to anybody.
Traded out a '06 e55 AMG w/ 68k miles and 50% working electronics lol (92k sticker) for a lightly used 2012 (12k miles) CPO R-SPEC for 32k. Couldn't be happier all around and feel like I made a sensible decision. The hyundai's an upgrade in several ways, but I did lose a beautiful engine sound, 1/2 a sec 0-60, about 40 horsepower, and a badge. To be honest, I always felt the Benz was too conspicuous- didn't want my clients passing judgement when they saw I was in a nicer car then them. Now I have just as much fun, way more electronical features, 10 yr 100k BUMPER TO BUMPER warranty ( since it's cpo, cost me $1200 xtra to extend the bumper to bumper all the way out) and none of the judgement. In fact, I point out to ppl it's a hyundai on purpose so I can see their jaw drop when they see it. It seems the only ppl that are shocked I went from an AMG to a hyundai are young single guys that have clearly never owned one of the highest maintenance vehicles on the planet. I guess it's not a big deal to go to the dealer every 3 mo's when it's under warranty to get 5 things fixed/replaced if u have that kind of free-time, but outside of warranty WHOA! I could list 20 things that weren't working when I sold it, as I wasn't about to spend what the AMG was worth to keep all the electrical gremlins at bay. Now I can rest assured my vehicle will be under warranty the entire time I own it, get better mpg, and tires will not need replacement every 12k miles either 😃. All I can say is, don't knock it till u drive it. Blows everything around 30k out of the water, and u can get a brand new '13 genesis base 3.8 for $30,600 with taxes included out the door at Delray hyundai(I'm telling u this b/c that's the deal I had worked out before I found the r-spec, they were just waiting for me to come back and sign paperwork). Go drive the Toyota Camry se they want they same price for after taxes, and tell me they don't feel like cars that are priced 15-20k apart. Never in a million years thought I'd own a hyundai, but the test drive sold me, and now I'm proud to own one, b/c I feel like a financial genius lol.
Bought a new 2013 Genesis 3.8 Premium last week after driving Mercedes exclusively for 15 years and I LOVE it. My neighbors thought I lost my mind, but I can say with 100% confidence, Mercedes cannot build a car of this quality for under $40K. I was going to buy a used, newer E-class until I did my homework. Just search for "Mercedes balance shaft issue or air suspension problems" and you'll find that your 2010 E350 could cost you thousands to fix defective parts. What is even worse than faulty design and build quality is the MB attitude of completely abandoning customers after the 4 year warranty is up. Choice: 4 year old E350 with 40-60K miles versus new Genesis with full warranty for the price, with lower maintenance costs - Absolute no brainer. I still love Mercedes, but I'm done with the new ones. MB is now just another brand competing on price and it shows because they are NOT good at making cheaper cars. My 1996 C220 was a good car that is still in my family with over 350K KM on it. My C320 and C240 wagons were fun but not reliable. I just sold my 2003 C320 wagon this week with 162,000KM. Pampered and maintained from new a $54K MB shouldn't need the following to get to 100K miles: new catalytic converters, MAF, crank position sensor, new water pump, power steering pump, starter motor, fuel pump, fuel sending units, interior door handles, new shocks, struts, upper and lower control arms, tie rods, not to mention every panel except the roof and hood were repaired due to rust which showed up after the car was 4 years old. My 2008 ML320 just hit 70K KM this month and is even worse quality than the W203s, which is hard to top. I've spent over $4K fixing factory defects (oil seals, leaking tail lights which fried the liftgate motor) on my dime this year alone and now it is rusting under the hood.
mikexcanxjerk no issues w/ the 2012, never saw dealer in 16 mo's of ownership. Upgraded to 2015 5.0 ultimate, despite knowing better than to buy the 1st model year, and unfortunately have now learned why you don't wanna own a Hyundai- horrible dealership experience and I've tried both that I have within 50 miles, so if I continue to have problems I'll probably just lease a Lexus...
Glen2349 yeah the Lexus gs350 is really nice , do you put regular fuel or premium on your 2012/15 genny ? Does it matter ? And so pretty much just keep up with service maintence everything should be good ? I have the tech package 2012 beautiful , although the fog lights can be changed lol
mikexcanxjerk I was doing premium, recently switched to regular and haven't noticed much difference, and I drive it like I stole it! I'm definitely harder on these cars than I was the amg because I was worried about repair costs
I own a 2011 V8 4.6 Genesis. Got a good price. The car is sweet, loaded. Super quiet, very comfortable, plenty of room, good power. Genesis has all the amenities of more expensive Mercedes and BMW. My 4.6 Genesis has full nav, fantastic Lexicon HD stereo, full leather, adaptive cruise control. Also has TEN YEAR warranty, unbeatable. Ask me if I care about a stupid emblem. I paid way less for a loaded, comfortable Genesis, saved money that is now invested in equities that pay me every month.
There is an option where you can get the wing badge, its on all model years of the Genesis sedan some just dont have that option equipped on their cars. :-)
Just curious, I saw a Genesis in a parking lot today. And on the back where the logo is, it wasnt a Hyundai logo.. It was a logo sort of like wings similar to chrysler just a little more slim.. What year of genesis had that?
I would take the 4.6 or 5.0 V8 any day over a V6 model. The gas mileage isn't that much different, the V8 will always sound a lot better, the V8 is usually a stronger and more reliable engine in the long run, and of course it's faster as well. The little bit of gas you'll save with the V6 isn't worth it to me anyway. Everybody has their own priorities though. Just my opinion.
They seriously need to change the headlight and taillight design on this car. 2-3 years ago I said the same thing about the Sonata and they did change it and now the Sonata looks really good. I would change three things about Hyundai: 1) Lights 2) Dashboard/Steering Wheel Design (make it classier) 3) Hyundai Embelem Good value overall but some simple changes could revamp this car completely.
"Fake it till you make it"? I would never drop thousands on a car just to be a poser. Only insecure people who I trying to prove something do that. If I bought a Genesis, it would be because I like and want a Genesis. Period.
@doshibear why would you change the hyundai emblem for. is it just because of what people think of hyundai cause if it is thats exactly why hyundai is keeping it
He says you only need the V8 for driving above 60 mph and that with the V8, it pulls as hard at 80 as it does at 30? That is all nonsense! Then he says, why wouldn't you get the RSpec at the end...uh, maybe because not everyone wants a V8? Maybe?????????!! He also used very vague terms when describing the steering differences between the models.
This is a lot of car for its price . Rear wheel drive and a high revving V6 . Amazing competition for the charger/300 .Hyundai has done really well for last 5 years or so and this is a significant car in their line up since its RWD. I definitly see them giving serious competition to other performance/ luxury brands in the coming years.
@Kriskof human just happen to love ICONS. They build enough prestige for the icon, they will sell that icon for whoever wants to be proud of having that icon (Apple, Bose, BMW, ... )
LMAO! Thats exactly what happend to me. Was about to buy an scion FR-S and I always talked shit about hyundai. Hyundai's are a POS, Id never own a pos hyundai blah blah blah. My buddy was like go drive that 13' genesis coupe, you might not buy it but it will change your mind about hyundai. I drove it and bought it that day. Im now a proud 2013 genesis coupe owner and all i can say is dont knock it till you drive it.
I rented the 2012 and it this car is absolutely unbelievable for the value. The speed and handling is much like the BMW. I own a Mercedes so I know a good car when I drive one.
Seen some reviews of the new Impala, and it's pretty similar to the Hyundai. For the price I paid for an almost new car, the Hyundai still made more sense. I rather like the addition 30 HP it has over the Impala too.
Just out of curiosity, If you own a Mercedes how would u know that 2012 feels like a BMW? also if u own a Mercedes why would u rent a 2012 in the first place? the renting guys only had Hyundai? sounds kinda odd, thats all.
Bought a used base 2012 Genesis 3.8 w/ 15k miles for under $27k cuz I needed a larger family hauler than my old Civic For that price, it made a lot more sense than buying a new Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. In comparing even higher priced used Lexus ES 350, Acura TL, Infinity M37, and MB E350, to the Genesis, the Genesis beat all in front and rear leg room. Yea, most of those may be more luxurious or handle better, but for a family sedan with a better warranty? It was a no brainer.
i know your comment is really old, but I think this guy is canadian, so he probably didn't watch the super bowl or the commercials. also, its actually pronounced hyoon-die, not hunn-day, so hes actually pronouncing it more correctly than the American pronunciation.
@pattycarljackson that's not to say a Hyundai is a cheap Honda, but just that people think that way b/c of the emblem. Hyundai's are indeed great cars, but if I'm purchasing a luxury car, I want to make people's heads turn and enjoy the car at the same time. The Genesis doesn't quite do that for me, yet.
While I do like Hyundai, I agree that the Genesis doesn't quite bat in the same league as BMW and Mercedes. But when compared to stuff closer to it's price range, like the Cadillac CTS and the Chrysler 300, It fares a lot better.
0:48 *8* speed? Geez, I remember watching a review of a car with 7 speed and the complaint with that is that it was constantly shifting. Mind you, the review I was watching was of an extremely expensive, high class car.
My family drives Mercedes Benz. No, not for image as many ignorant people think, but rather for the quality and safety. So, to answer your question, a better car. :)
Lol, you're one of those "German engineering" folks 😄. You still believe in the lie of superior quality and such. 😄 that hyundai is more reliable and just as safe as the criminally overpriced krautmobile. Germany hasn't built reliable cars in over 20 years! You like buying it for the name & prestige it earned back when they still built expensive, but reliable cars. Now ( and since the late 90's) they're just expensive!
I want the spec r model lol mustang motor but it's worth the money would love to get my hands on one just add a supercharged to give a little more kick when needed
you are right, but you don't need to call me stupid. i wasnt trying to bash on hyundai i just thought the rims looked the same, its not a big deal, its just freakin youtube! so chill! btw who will really kinow which company came up with the rim design first, it could possibly have been honda
No, you're paying 40k for a luxury sedan that has performance better or on par with its competitors and features on par with that of higher class vehicles, for good pricing in its class. I tell people... If you're paying $70k for a 4 door "not that sporty" car such as the E-class, you're definitely just buying it to show you are rich (and dumb). So go ahead and pay 30k more for the brand name.
Michael......Michael, How could you review a product that you can't even pronounce the company's name? Very Disappointed. The only thing that came good out of the 4 minutes and 42 seconds was the clips of the Genesis.
@Salamander6666 Actually a lot of people would look and judge you by your car. Not saying I would since I got a Hyundai Elantra myself which is rather cheap but a great car. Nonetheless, there are a lot of people out there that would judge based on prestigious brand names. Whatever floats their boat.
Whenever a reviewer says stupid stuff like "you really don't need to go faster so u should be fine with the V6", I just want to hit the ejection button for their driver's seat.
@pattycarljackson the emb just looks tacky; a new emb could add to a car's character. I think that's the case for lots of emblems like kia, honda, ford just to name a few. I think jag, benz, bmw, maserati, ferrari, all have nice emblems that stand out and look pretty and provide those cars with another artistic dimension. In reality, no one cares, but I think based on its reputation, many people think Hyundai's emblem is a mere copy of Honda's emblem, and hence a Hyundai = a cheap Honda
If this thing want to compete with the big dogs, put it up against an AMG or a M-sport model! And see how great it is! The Germans will blow the doors off this car.
Sweet, I think I would take Hyundai badge, then people dont think Im trying to make it look like something it isnt. I wanna show people its a Hyundai and that it would probably blow their mercedes E class or BMW 5 series off the road :)
We were all taught about God when we were impressionable. We were all born into a certain religions because our parents belonged to certain religions. Likewise, we were all brought up and taught that M, B, A and L are the best cars. As not many of us are Automobile Engineers by profession, we believed what we were taught and over a period of time we thought that they were facts. Again we were taught that H is a cheap car and can not make good cars. If we are to be told now that H is the 3rd largest Car maker of all the 196 countries in the whole world, and also 5.0 Lambda Engine under the hood of Genesis has been in Top 10 Best engines in the whole world for 5 consecutive years since its inception, well - we find it difficult to accept, because we have already made up our minds. None of the automakers are altruistic including H, they are all there to make billions of dollars. They spend money on advertisement, endorsement, reviewers so that they product develops the image and reputation. Once it is developed, selling cars is a piece of cake. Genesis is an excellent car. I rest my case. If you consider that you save 20k compared to M, 10 K compared to L , it is a best buy.
@rman7778 lol so owning a Mercedes all of a sudden makes you a connoisseur of luxury vehicles and not some douche who bought a C-Class Mercedes (probably because you couldn't afford a CLS class) because it has a 3 pointed star on the hood. ....makes sense....
Why should the word "aggressive" be repeatedly associated with a car? Are buyers with low testosterone levels so easily manipulated? That's a rhetorical question, of course.
i love hyundai, and i still cant believe that this is a hyundai im impressed what hyundai has done and how far they have come car after car they are becoming more of a luxury brand then anything and the same goes for kia. they have been fixing their handling and ride quality on all of their cars and i wouldnt ever hesitate to buy or even recommend their cars to anybody.

What exactly does this Genesis "copy"?
The Genesis was an original new model.
I know right, talking ma crap I guess bc it looks like a Benz and Bimmer
Rode in the v6 the other day, I was really impressed.
I feel the exact same way! I absolutely love Hyundai, they are just amazing!
I love these videos, actual info not just burnouts.
I own a 2011 V8 4.6 Genesis. Got a good price. The car is sweet, loaded. Super quiet, very comfortable, plenty of room, good power. Genesis has all the amenities of more expensive Mercedes and BMW. Whatever the verdict, you have to say that the proportion of this sedan is spot on! It is a good looking, handsome sedan..
There is an option where you can get the wing badge, its on all model years of the Genesis sedan some just dont have that option equipped on their cars. :-)
They now offer the 5.0 without the performance tires and r spec badges and with beige leather and that sounds awesome, 429hp and 26mpg!!!

I have the v8, its a great engine.
I've driven the v6. It's got plenty of power.
I have the V8 4.6...and I wish there wasn't much of a difference in fuel consumption, but there is...
My dad got a genesis sedan new for 29000. There was a huge end of the year sale. Same model as yours.
I think hyundai makes some solid vehicals, i just recently purchesed a 2012 accent and it runs great and looks great!
They seriously need to change the headlight and taillight design on this car. 2-3 years ago I said the same thing about the Sonata and they did change it and now the Sonata looks really good. I would change three things about Hyundai:
1) Lights

Good value overall but some simple changes could revamp this car completely.

tail lights remind me of the new infinity m35. but other than that, LOVING this car.

What kind of gas does the R-Spec need, premium?

the rims look almost exactly like the rims on a 2013 accord sport
@murphopolis but the announcer from the Genesis super bowl ad said it's quicker than the Porsche Panamera S
Surprised that the front passenger seat doesn't get cooling!
love your reviews, keep it coming.
btw the gear stick looks exactly like the one on the euro Ford Focus Mk2 (powershift)
do smaller tires provide more comfort than larger tires? I thought it was the other way round.
Just out of curiosity, If you own a Mercedes how would u know that 2012 feels like a BMW? also if u own a Mercedes why would u rent a 2012 in the first place? the renting guys only had Hyundai? sounds kinda odd, thats all.
how many miles would a 2012 geneis go till it starts to have big issues??
I'm at 117k and the only issue I have, is being tired of all the questions about the car when I stop!
Wow you read the top comments too? Neat.
Really! only 2000 more dollar. What about the GAS? are you going to pay for it? I would go with the V6 model.
Bought a used base 2012 Genesis 3.8 w/ 15k miles for under $27k cuz I needed a larger family hauler than my old Civic For that price, it made a lot more sense than buying a new Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. amazing I got a Honda ad before viewing Hyundai video
loving that cars hyundai is coming out with.
you get 6 years 60,000 as a secondary owner. Still better than most other companys.
Great choices with both cars! I love Cadi also!
If it is a Hyundai certified used car bought at the dealership, it maintains the the full warranty.
Haven't seen the comment yet, but please watch the marketing. It's Hyundai (hun day) like "sunday" (Superbowl commercial 2009)
you're reviews are good !
Get a genesis and put maybach badges on it lol
While I do like Hyundai, I agree that the Genesis doesn't quite bat in the same league as BMW and Mercedes. But when compared to stuff closer to it's price range, like the Cadillac CTS and the Chrysler 300, It fares a lot better.

Good job on the review. Like it.

Terrific car, terrific value.
@Salamander6666 Actually a lot of people would look and judge you by your car. Not saying I would since I got a Hyundai Elantra myself which is rather cheap but a great car. Nonetheless, there are a lot of people out there that would judge based on prestigious brand names. Whatever floats their boat.
good review
Looks great
Cool video
Needs rally spoiler.
lol at 1:51 he says add a august if u keep replaying it
You'd take a car with a bird beak on the grille...
i love this car!
If this thing want to compete with the big dogs, put it up against an AMG or a M-sport model! And see how great it is! The Germans will blow the doors off this car.
I kept my previous car for 10 yrs. Resale value wasn't a consideration.
okay so I was a bit surprised when I looked into it, but its actually pronounced hyon-dey
Bravo!
Didn't you see the super bowl commercial? It's Hyundai like Sunday, not hunn-DIE!
Drive one, before you write a review or opinion...I did...then I bought one.
It wasnt an Equus it wasnt big enough to be.
Sweet, I think I would take Hyundai badge, then people dont think Im trying to make it look like something it isnt. I wanna show people its a Hyundai and that it would probably blow their mercedes E class or BMW 5 series off the road :)
I would never drop the cash on this car...did I say never? I meant never never ever!!!!
@RamirezRobertoPerez ok, viva pancho villa!
Hmmm...Can't argue with 30 moar HP. Good choice then :D
If it didnt have the Hyundai logo then it is an Equus.
Whoa....is that care invisible? 2:32? hahah
@bigtruckseriesreview or WORSE
Copyright Mercedes Benz E-class !
its just a custom badge
I love it
so many cars i'd rather have...
I had 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan 3.8L run faster than 2012 Chrysler 300 3.6L with 8 automatic , wow Chrysler's 3.6 is weak slow!
Honda and their luxury brand has nothing on this car.
I like huyndai more than lexus,,
Genesis is really better than lexus , look at this car!!! Loook good
not bad
Guy in vid looks like Matthew McConaughey
@rman7778 lol so owning a Mercedes all of a sudden makes you a connoisseur of luxury vehicles and not some douche who bought a C-Class Mercedes (probably because you couldn't afford a CLS class) because it has a 3 pointed star on the hood. ....makes sense....
Just put a Hyundai emblem on the front end already...
Why should the word "aggressive" be repeatedly associated with a car? Are buyers with low testosterone levels so easily manipulated? That's a rhetorical question, of course.
This guy looks as tall as Shaq.
Nice - but SLOW DOWN THE DELIVERY! :)
@TheHunturkCCC You Can Only Drive An Audi You Can Not Buy It
Mercedes > Hyundai, no brainer
