Hey, Chris! If you have time, I was wondering about your input on a issue I believe I just discovered with respiratory infections with my snakes... A couple days ago when I was handling one of my snakes (newer, got off morphmarket about around 6 months ago) I heard a little wheezing. It freaked me out since I’ve been so paranoid about RI’s since one of my early snakes had a minor one. I thought maybe it was cause she was going to shed but then when she did shed out, I still heard it. So I used a card to open her mouth and saw a few strands of mucus... i was confused because I’m pretty sure my temps are good, she was in quarantine for a long time until I recently made my first rack and moved her, along with almost all the rest of my snakes, into it a month ago, I got her from what I believe is a reputable breeder and she seemed good... so I moved her out of the rack into another bin with paper towels and put her on a warmer heating pad and sprayed it with some chlorihexadine (vet disinfectant) in hopes it would add some vapors. Then I turned my rack temps up just in case it could of spread (almost all my snakes are in that rack 🤦♀️). Then, Just today I took out another snake I’ve had for just over a year now, that I don’t handle much, and right before I put him back I heard a small wheeze, so I checked him mouth and saw a strand of mucus as I opened it. Once he was stressed he started wheezing more. Now I’m kinda freaking out and feel like I’m going kinda crazy. I’m almost scared to check the rest of my snakes as I feel I’m going to end up thinking they all have early RI’s! They do all still eat great though and I don’t see any serious ones. Now I’m doubting my care and if there’s an underlying issue (possibly the rack? The boards are melamine but some supporting wood on the sides are pine, but I saw online that was ok? It’s not in their bins...) or if something is spreading... I checked out your video on snake ailments and I’m thinking of getting the F10 and a fogger and trying to treat any I see have some extra mucus? I’m not sure if I’m over reacting but now I’m super paranoid of touching anything or the situation devolving into a serious problem 😓
I'd probably call a vet to discuss in more detail. I've never really had a problem with my ball pythons, just had that one case with my retic and she still struggles with it every now and then. I'd decrease the humidity, maybe just bump it up during sheds. I think the vet may give antibiotics?
I'm not Chris but with what I have learned in the hobby is it all starts with your stock. Any Axanthic line can be good if you are getting a good example of it. Nerds line of VPI is suppose to be the least Brown which I believe is the SK line which is used to make the lightning ball python. After having that sturdy Genetics base as Chris said use brightening genes like pastel and fire to clean things up so that when the axanthic cleans the color out the snake will just look cleaner. You can also wonder to morph market and peak around what you like as everyone has a preference:) Hope this helped some ^^ I can't wait to breed our Axanthic girl to our bamboo pastel het VPI to prove her out :D

@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures my all time fav is the axanthic ghost called the true ghost. Axanthic is the gene I've always been interested in done a lot of research before starting to purchase new animals. So as far as I know the lighting pied is only from the MJ line pied.
So i want.to no witch would you breed your 66 percent het axantic with . pastel yellow.belly.. Or pastel enchi . Or a Savannah cinny. Or a 100 percent het clown

I have just bought me a 3 year old female 66 percent het axantic she is beautiful she weighs 1070 so she is close to breeding size. Hope to have her up to atleast 1400 grams by October. Just got so many beautiful males I don't no witch I want to breed with her.
I adopted an adult "normal male" that when I posted pics of HER (she was popped and confirmed a girl) a breeder jumped right on and said I definitely have an adult axanthic that's browned out. How would I go about finding out what line she is?

Without buying males until I found the one she produced visuals with ... Are snake breeders somewhat like dog breeders find someone with a male you pay a fee they do their thing then you hope like hell you can bring the clutch to hatch or does anyone do stuff like that?

What if you bred a all white super fire female to a 66% het Anxanthic male? Is it possible to get white/ black stripe babies?
Hi Chris, I would suggest desert ghost as a fourth recessive. I'd hope the desert ghost "moon glow" would carry into axanthic black and white.

I'd probably go for the TSK line, mainly because it seems like that line is a lot more developed from other breeders that specialize in axanthics.

You'll get pastels, yellowbellys, and pastel yellowbellies. All will be possible het axanthic.
