      I literally went to this shop TWO WEEKS AGO!!! Bought a rookie Lamelo Ball and the dude was straight up. Honest and chill. Didn't say a word, I said I'm looking to invest in some Rookie cards to get a collection and profit years down the road...and he didn't correct me "cause I was a prior collector as a young kid and knew what direction to take for later sale" but actually got me some nice Rookie Basketball cards. Rookie James Wisemen, I'm sure he's more of a baseball fan but it was perfect.

      Thing is though now after the boom $5000 won't get you started, it'd be more like 15-20k. Y'all opened this shop at the absolute best time to do it. Congrats, awesome looking shop.

    The Card Boom is real. Props to those who can afford it and having fun collecting.(and those profiting) I feel bad for those people addicted to breaks and boxes that it's making them broke. I collect casually now and stick to single cards - if you go down the rabbit hole, a lot of your cash will be gone and cause you anxiety. Be responsible folks.. it's a hobby. Don't lose your life over cardboard!

    I'm 41 years old now, and I started collecting cards when I was 12. I remember going to the card shops and trying to pull mutombos rc cards. I stop collecting cards in the early 2000s because all the card shops in my area close downed because of ebay. It's Great to see card shops opening up again because there's no better feeling then opening up a pack in the shop and landing the player you were chasing for.
    The industry has change so much, everything is so expensive now..

      I didn't have a card shop near me, so I had to rely on ripping packs growing up (3 Mutombo Skybox rookies by the way). The internet has increased accessibility to where you can buy what you want when you want it. I agree that the hobby is pricey. I've been reconnecting with those 1980s and 1990s sets I couldn't afford as a kid and going further back in time for less volatile vintage. I'll probably start buying 2021 cards in 10 years!

    I’m in Indianapolis and we have 3 card shops. One is cards/memorabilia and it’s far from me but not many boxes/packs, one is mostly Magic/Pokémon and doesn’t have much product at all, and the other, which is the closest one to me, is strictly boxes and he might have a few boxes open for packs. I think it’s awesome that you have the option to buy boxes/packs for every product here. Too bad you’re in Washington. I’ve always wanted to open a card shop but I fear, due to the ups and downs of the hobby, I’ll lose money. Plus, Indy is a kind of a weird market and I mean weird as in we don’t have really have a market. That’s my dream though. A sports card shop or music store. Maybe one day..

    Easy to see why they are making so much money. The markup they are selling packs and boxes looks excessive! Can’t believe people are repeat customers. But it’s their money. And that’s in store. Probably a lot worse for online breaking.

  • @comicguyenator
    @comicguyenator 2 роки тому

    It's not all rainbows and roses having a store. I used to own a shop but closed it cuz the rent just kept going up. It is true what he says how building relationships with your customers will gain loyal customers. But owning a shop was like being married to the business. And owning a card shop was like owning a money pit!! Where does all the money go???? It was always, "Make that sale!!", cuz you got more inventory on the way from your pre-orders. Sure, you might gross a lot of money, but your profits are razor thin because of competition. Owning a card shop is a young man's game. I just sell online nowadays, and its way easier and less headache and heartache. Selling online has less overhead. One advantage owning a card shop has is that you have a place that people can sell you stuff. That's probably the best thing for card shop owners. But you have to have a lot money. Good video. Thank you for sharing.

    This is a "winning the lottery" type of situation and should be celebrated, but not something others should try to replicate at this point. His business is only bringing in that much bc of the value and demand for cards right now. This can and probably will die down greatly when "live gets back to normal blah blah" or when the general public just loses interest again, and things go back to normal pre pandemic level pricing and sales. This is amazing this guy was set up for this and hopefully he is smart with what he is making now and invests it wisely, but for someone to try to start from scratch now and start making good money, they'd almost assuredly lose a good amount of their start up funds. It could work if you can last a while and hold on to smart investment cards but this is way to risky for regular people to get into if they can't financially take the hit and still be ok, but then again, that should be the truth for most ventures in life
