What a seriously beautiful piece of music. Just got done watching the movie again and needed to hear an instrumental version of it's awesome theme song. Good stuff.
I feel that way sometimes I would gets a flashback of my past when I was little my Mom , her sister and I go through the shops on Canal street back in 1977 the last part of the instrumental I picture on second floor of the store called S H Kress near the cafe area . As tears roll down my face thinking about my other brother William M. Seals he was born in 1975 he passed away after living 18 weeks.
Michael Masser who wrote this as well as Touch me in the Morning and The Greatest Love of All as well as other beautiful pieces was a true genius. Exquisite.
15 January 2014: I love listening to this song while I am in bed going to sleep, so I leave it on all night low on my computer or my cell phone. Diana Ross version is the greatest and I love all of Diana's songs, but the next version of this song, I like is by pretty Latina Jennifer Lopez where she is live in concert high above the crowd on a swing. Miami Heat, 2014 champions. NKD
In 1973 Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin wrote the Music and Lyrics Do You Know Where you’re going to …And Thelma Houston, Whitney’s Mom recorded it. BUT THAT VERSION a was never released. When Berry Gordy fired Director Tony Richardson from Mahogany in 1975, Gordy took over Directing (The Movie Mahogany Is truly a Bad Film, but has a Great Song and Music by Michael Masser). Berry Gordy remembered Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin, Thelma Houston’s Version of Mahogany, and ask Masser and Goffin for a bigger version..and change around the lyrics. Bam..And Ross sings The Theme from Mahogany.
Do you know where you're going to Do you like the things that life is showing you Where are you going to Do you know Do you get What you're hoping for When you look behind you There's no open doors What are you hoping for Do you know Once we were standing still in time Chasing the fantasies That filled our minds You knew how I loved you But my spirit was free Laughin' at the questions That you once asked of me Do you know where you're going to Do you like the things that life is showing you Where are you going to Do you know Now looking back at all we've planned We let so many dreams Just slip through our hands Why must we wait so long Before we'll see How sad the answers To those questions can be Do you know where you're going to Do you like the things that life is showing you Where are you going to Do you know Do you get What you're hoping for When you look behind you There's no open doors What are you hoping for Do you know
Do You Know Where you're going to? Do you like the things? That life is showing you Where are you going to? Do you know? Do you get? What you're hoping for? When you look behind you There's no open doors What are you hoping for? Do you know? Once we were standing still, in time Chasing the fantasies and feeling all nice You knew how I loved you, but my-spirit was free Laughing at the questions That you once asked of me Now looking back at all we've had We let so many dreams just slip through our hands Why must we wait so long, before we see? How sad the answers to those questions can be Do you get? What you're hoping for When you look behind you There's no open doors What are you hoping for? Do you know?
It does sound a little different without the vocals of DIANA ROSS, but I’d better give this version a listen, it sounds very good, I must admit: KENNETH HUANG. 3/2/24.
I love that song even though the movie came out the same year i was born 1975, for me growing up in both sides here in PR and in my hometown New York City throughout the 80s and 90s even the decade of the early 2000s music especially the love songs of the 80's,90s and especially the past ten years of the 2000s have meaning showing what true love meant. some of the music of today are very good but mostly 70% of today's music are just pure garbage with no meaning at all with more skin and no real talent anymore. no offense but i rather listen to old school hip hop and especially love songs just like the Mohagany theme even the instrumental version which has more meaning of love better than most of Today's songs anyway. by the way i love the instrumental version more because it is angelic great job.
That song is really beautiful and it touched my heart, body, mind and soul too.
the instrumental is best. ❤
This song is way back of the day 1975.
What a seriously beautiful piece of music.

God damn this is beautiful...
Do you know where you're going to
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to
Do you know
Do you get
What you're hoping for
When you look behind you
There's no open doors
What are you hoping for
Do you know
Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies
That filled our minds
You knew how I loved you
But my spirit was free
Laughin' at the questions
That you once asked of me
Do you know where you're going to
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to
Do you know
Now looking back at all we've planned
We let so many dreams
Just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long
Before we'll see
How sad the answers
To those questions can be
Do you know where you're going to
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to
Do you know
Do you get
What you're hoping for
When you look behind you
There's no open doors
What are you hoping for
Do you know
Wow! Magnific!!! Thanks a lot!
Do You Know
Where you're going to?
Do you like the things?
That life is showing you
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
Do you get?
What you're hoping for?
When you look behind you
There's no open doors
What are you hoping for?
