U guys are what made Singapore today and what garnered us and our hawker culture the Unesco Heritage. I am proud that we have hawkers in Singapore who serve up good meals. And we can see the work is tough, demanding, with full of ups and downs and there is alot of commitment, discipline and (most importantly) passion needed. have watched all 4 episodes of Belly of Nation 2. i never consider eating in Singapore as expensive because of these places. I think it is even cheaper than Philippines and Indonesia. Food is so great and the serving size very generous.
nostalgia hitting me hard just by watching this documentary. i use to eat at hawker centers every day when i was working there almost 10 years ago. miss so many delicious food nasi/mee goreng, nasi lemak, wonton noodles, mee rebus, hainanese chicken rice, roti paratha, tea tarek etc. best thing was the were all affordable. hats off the the hawker center staff. now that i am leaving in canada here you cant really have a good meal in less then 10 dollars so you cant able afford to eat out everyday.

I loved madame Leong attitude she such hard work and optimistic person. She seen really dedicated to her craft and is super admirable. My great gradma sold traditional Salvadoran candy for most of her life and she always had a great personality too. She past the tradition to my gradma but she is the last one who knows the craft. Is really sad when traditional gets lost, so I hope she can continue with her business.
I have watched all of the episodes! Gosh, the story of each episode is cohesively well-documented. All together create a beautiful cascade of the journey inside Singapore's hawkers from the historical perspective and how it transcends through the modern era, including the difficult times as now. The 92 year old grandma! Awesome!! She’s perfect. My grandma lived until she was 92. Then she got Cancer. At 92? It sucked. But she lived long, and was still active. She loved to go out to eat and try new things. She loved a glass of wine and good margarita also. Lol. Her fav snack was nachos!
I have the greatest utmost respect for hawkers & chefs. They do what they do for passion, not for anything else. Cause it’s not a life that everyone would choose

Great documentary from CNA. While the quality of shows and dramas from channel 5 and 8 have dropped significantly since the 90s and early 00s, CNA has improved by leap and bounds and is now the crown jewel of MediaCorp.

You have to be kidding. Michelle doesn't pronounce her consonants clearly and she keeps her tongue flattened all throughout. Lots of Singaporeans and Malaysians speak a lot clearer than her.
Surprising that the old hawkers in Singapore are resistant to cashless payment systems. The old street hawkers in Shanghai, who are arguably less educated than their counterparts in Singapore, have already moved to cashless 5 years ago.
