As a hydrogeologist, I’m so happy about the ground-water recharge we’re getting this year. We still have a long way to go to reverse the ground-water mining we’ve been doing for the last hundred years, ever since the invention of the electric submersible pump.

Yay you covered some central CA reservoirs :) Pine Flat is doing 'flood release' because it is estimated that there is about x3 times as much snow in the water shed that feeds it as the capacity of Pine Flat Lake, so the USACE is essentially 'making room' in anticipation of this. Otherwise, the lake would be near full no doubt.
Great meteorology reporting!! Best I've seen on utube for CA

I recently found this channel. This meteorologist (Monica Woods) has the best coverage of any source I've found, and by far. She covers a lot more than just the 'numbers'. Providing context and rationales helps a lot. In addition to info about snow melt, water flows and reservoirs, and weather, I was intrigued to hear mention that CalFire may now be equipping itself to fight fires at night. This is great news. I heard it first mentioned during the Caldor fire. Given night vision equipment and the equivalent of an 'AWACS' plane, the ability to perform air drops at night, when winds are normally calmer, will make a huge difference. P.S. I suggest that ABC10 include posting Monica's name in the video and/or list it in publisher's notes, rather than just a verbal.

Late summer/autumn of 2017 was the worst year for wildfire smoke here in the Bay Area. For weeks, our homes were filled with thick smoke, I have just finally finished the cleaning from it in the less-used portions of my house. When I went through some clothes I haven’t worn for a while, they still stank of that smoke. We had the famous “Day Without Sun” when the smoke was so dense that it stayed a weird twilight all day and was almost as bad for the remainder of that week. I couldn’t even see the hills less than a half-mile from my house. This year, we’ll have a heavy fuel (vegetation) load, so we’ll have to be extremely careful. In Sonoma County, just north of me, fire officials were going house to house telling residents to run for their lives, taking nothing except pets, in the middle of the night. Not everyone got out in time. The unusual thing was these were suburban areas, not rural places surrounded by forest.

I wonder how easy it is to run the massive number of pumps/wells in the Tulare basin in reverse to drive the surface water back in to the aquafers. In principle all you need to do is reverse the wiring on the pumps... On the other hand, getting power to those submerged locations could be an issue. It's also maybe expensive to power those pumps 24/7. Farmers might consider it as a local water savings account they can use in dry years. Plus, If there's enough pumping capacity across the basin, maybe it meaningfully shortens the time for the fields to be arable again.

The state needs more normal temps and more melting now & through the month.
This cold and wet weather delays the big melt closer to when a late May heat wave can occur and cause a rapid mega melt.

I think all it would take is a heat wave with a few warm storms in there to show people in California just how Mother Nature is the Big Kahuna again. You look at the year 1983 and for people my age(64) it doesn't seem that long ago but hey....it's 40 YEARS!! California will have to build new off-river storage reservoirs like the Sites project so that in years like this one they can capture and hold it.

If rain is coming down then the reduction in salinity is natural. CA climate extremists are looking for any opportunity to waste water and make us dependent upon the state and them in many people's opinions.

I have to wonder if you’ve kept up with RateMyCharge, OutOfSpec Reviews, EVDave, Brandon Flasch, TFLEV, OutOfSpecDave…. None of those guys have the fairy land trip he did. You call their great support staff, but nothing happens. Overhead canopies- great! Can we better stops than Walmarts? Super sketchy. I hope it does become super reliable, but he should travel a route next time that his own people don’t know where he’s going to make sure the experience is better than everyone else has. All the best!
