    Update: B1+ playing in my study for a day now. They made me realize how good the imaging is on the Sony CSS5s, but the B1+s also produce the mid-bass tones that would annoyingly drop out on the Sonys. Sure, the air tweeters sound great - as expected, but I wasn't expecting the level of detail in the lower range - just blows me away. I like to adjust setups based on drum kit sounds because to my ear, this is the toughest sound for speakers, esp small ones, to handle properly. The Sonys would often let me down a little here.... the B1+s so far have highly accurate drum kit sounds that I am completely thrilled with. So clear and detailed.... THIS is exactly what has been missing in my setup! Thanks Randy!

    I have these speakers in my bedroom connected to my tv for general purpose media use. You're absolutely right about the depth of this speaker, and how peculiar it is that such a small speaker has this much deep bass. makes it an excellent 2.0 solution for movies if you need a small footprint and wanna spend less than $300. this might be the best under $300 speaker, period.

    Came in yesterday and hooked them up. Man, very impressed with this little speaker. Compared to the SSCS5's, much better soundstage, more airy and cleaner highs without being harsh or fatiguing, fuller/richer sound, more holographic. I'm hearing things in my music that I hadn't heard before. Clarity, detail, separation, liquidy...
    Edit: Also wanted to mention I'm using these on a nearfield/desktop setup on Kanto 6" stands.

    I have an upgrade manual available for the B1+ available on my website; along with 3 other speakers that CAM has reviewed - the Sony SS-CS5, the Elac BS41 and Debut 2.0 B5.2 (aka DB5.2). These speakers all have a lot of potential in their stock form, and because like every product, they are built to a price point - there are important gains to be made.

I have a pair of the B1+ going through the Emotiva PT-100 preamp which is connected to a Crown XLS1002 power amp. I'm also using the Polk Audio PSW10 Sub. With the Crown, I've set a high pass filter at 80 Hz. Like you said, these definitely have the "X" factor. I get a smile on my face whenever I listen to music now. Bought these primarily on your recommendation. Fosi BL20C and an Aiyima T8 preamp/DAC and the Wiim mini-streamer. Very pleased with the purchase of these speakers. Pushed them back closer to the wall & bumped the bass a little using the T8 EQ. This is nearfield listening from bed. Even with less than ideal placement these sound great. I have a sub hooked up, but don't use it often as I don't want to wake up the house.

    Getting back into stereo music. Ended up getting an Emotiva 2.1 system: B1+ bookshelf speakers, SE8 sub, and BASX TA1 integrated amp. Originally was going to get the Denon PE600 but Emotiva gives 20% back in Emotiva $ so the BASX TA1 ended up being less expensive than the Denon! Free shipping from Franklin TN was about 2-3 days from day of order since I live about 100 miles away. So far love the great accuracy and imaging - being able to pick out every instrument and location.

    I have the T1's in the living room and B1 on my desk I have 2 good 12" subs and Onkyo hi-end receiver. I have had a lot of expensive speakers Large Electrostatic Large Infinity Polks and many more but these Emotiva are the best I have ever owned. B1 has a definite difference on the mids you just have to hear them to know it is a lot too. B1 near field is great but when you get away it goes down. They are still very good and beat most other speakers. If you like details they can not be beaten. T1's with 2 subs at 40hz is a true experience Superb base like a bass player in the room and not just boom base but real clear articulate. As you go up in volume they hold true with no perceived distortion even at rock band levels I was a lead guitar player for years. For people that do not know what a floor tom or real drums sound like any speaker will do but Emotiva seems to know what instruments sound like and are able to get it back in their speakers. Transient response is quite good as the AMT is fast as Electrostatics and to get a mid that can integrate is a tall order they did it in the T1 speakers. My ears are always rinning after I listen to these T1's with every type of music I have and it covers the gambit. I am also an engineering Tech so have an electronics background. You really do not need a sub with the T1's but what the heck, when your 68 best my recording Best of Al Jerrau very good recording the T1's will respond to a better signal very well most will never hear if they just put a regular recording on they, can shine with the good source material.

    I've got these on my desk right now powered by the TA-100. Great combo. Not sure if I need a sub yet. What I like is the set 'em, and forget 'em nature of this combo...I've found that after a little messing around I just liked the way they sound with the default settings on the amp. I control the volume with my iMac, so set at around 50 I get all the volume I need. Love their presence, and I agree, the bass, while not massive, is tight and is satisfying, at least in the near field setup I'm using. Great speakers for the money. And, the TA-100 is a great amp for the money, too. Nice to know if I get back into vinyl, I've got a decent phono pre-amp, but I digress. Nice review. I even enjoyed the rumbling of earthquakes. First time a had seen the Emotiva speakers I thought they were perfectly made for watching Transformer movies. Since you just said that you own the B1+ and a TA-100 amp I am now feeling "I'm not worthy" - "I'm not worthy". Perfect set-up for a simple 2 channel TV.
    Going back to the Sonys - I watched Tron Legacy last night and DAMN it was fun. Now I wonder what the Emotiva B1+ would sound like. I only have an old Denon AVR-591, 5.1 set-up, but I hope to add "front height" speakers and an amp to drive them. Dolby Pro Logic IIz is an orphaned format, but I'm hoping for some added audio immersion. Randy if you or anyone here has any experience with the IIz set-up please comment. Thanks and have a great safe day.

    2nd comment... Years ago when I put together my own version of a cheap audio system* I used a cd of Also Sprach Zarathustra that has that fading out kettle drum and timed when I could no longer hear them to buy the first two components -- CD player and headphones.
    * circa 1987 system.. I don't remember models, but ...
    *Yamaha stereo Rx series receiver
    *Pioneer 6-disc cd changer with headphone direct jack
    *KLH 8" 2-way speakers
    *Sennheiser HD series over the ear headphones
    Listening to Michael Jackson's "PYT" on the Bad CD, with those headphones, at the beginning while it's still acapella, and he's wanting to lie down next to you and reach out and touch you, for the first time, while lying in bed in the dark, was super creepy because it sounded like he was right there whispering in my ear. I seriously pulled my headphones off and turned on the lights.

    Would you take B1+ over Elac UniFi ?

      That's a tough question. I think the Elac Unifi has more of a grown up well refined complete sound. While the Emotiva has ultra clarity and awesome bass. They're both great. The Emotiva is a pretty special speaker at it's price point though.

      So at this size of driver (woofer) I do see a tendency for speakers to start falling apart around the 80db range. However, if you have the ability to add a high pass filter on these via a receiver or even an analog capacitor with a subwoofer then you can get them much louder while still keeping things together. These did as well if not slightly better than all the other speakers in this range. These can play very well between 75-80ish db while still being balanced.

    Hello @cheapaudioman
    I am looking into upgrading my system from the fluance rt81 straight into the edifier r1280t powered speakers. My budget is not the highest and I’m just looking to make the next decent sized jump. I am heavily interested in getting these emotiva b1+ speakers. My fiancée just ordered me the art djpre II for my birthday and for the amp I was thinking about getting the aiyima a07 which you seem to be fond of. Does this plan sound good in your opinion? I’d hate to return the gift and I don’t want to spend $400 on an integrated amp. Thanks.

Please don't take that as a critique (about rambling), but I was too proud of my alliteration. Where are you located btw? You mentioned misty Seattle I think in one of your videos. Proud Seattlite here. Love your taste in music as well. Few more test albums for you that are a little outside my beloved alt. rock are Gregory Porter - Liquid Spirit, Beck - Morning Phase, Michael Buble - It's Time, and Marc Cohn - Listening Booth, Agnes Obel - Aventine.

    A question: which are some of your go to Travis to test speakers?

  • @beesdreams9
    @beesdreams9 2 роки тому +1

    All is not roses with the speaker. The way the mid range on these B1+ reproduce both male and female vocals falls noticeably short of two other speakers I own. A.B. testing really does refine one’s sense of these kind of things. The subtle timberal differences,which make one voice stand out in unique soulful contrast to and different from another is noticeably lost. Both my partner and I noticed this easily. This dulling effect is doled out evenly to both male and female voices alike. It’s like the difference between a guitar made out of a less resonant wood and one made of really finally chosen lively wood which has the ability to differentiate between, for example, the character of a steel string or a phosphor bronze string. .This is the one failing of the B1+ which has me looking for something else. I want to hear the soul of the singer through his or her own voice,, not a 70something% approximation of it with the other % lost to who knows what. Woofer material? Crossover component quality? I’ve no way of knowing.

    So I bought the B1+. I bought the Emotiva BasX A-100 amp. I love these speakers as the come into 77dB and above. I love pretty much all this speaker does, however, below 75dB I start to lose the fullness, and lower spectrum drops out. I may be the odd guy but I can't listen to 80dB music all day. Sometimes I am a bit more nearfield, down in the mid 50dB range and I would like to experience a bit more of the lower frequencies, what is a "cheapaudioman" recommendation for a solution?

    • @cheapaudioman
      @cheapaudioman 3 роки тому

      You may try to position it closer to the wall for a fuller bass and lower mids. The other option is to add a small subwoofer and in the long term probably the solution I’d push folks towards anyway. Also play with the tone controls on the ta-100 to see if you can bring up the lower levels. Tone controls and placement are both free so I’d start there.

    • @gardgary
      @gardgary 3 роки тому

      @@cheapaudioman thank you. The a-100 doesn't have tone controls as far as I can determine. I've been pondering the 8 inch sub from Emotiva, but was initially looking for less $$$ options.

    My 2 cents on this speaker is... you have to run 2.1 as the bass just does not do it. Given the size that is not a surprise. These are a nearfield speaker and excellent for that application. For a bedroom or small apartment speaker, I am not sure they cut the bill, they just lose their definition when you get over 6 feet away in my opinion. When they are pointed at your ears they are great if you are close. Guess I am echoing Randy's review but in case you are researching the more data/opinions the better.....right?

    • @final3119

      What else would you use? This is Emo’s lowest cost pair of speakers. If you want matching speakers, which you should want, these will do it. I got T2s+ for my side surrounds (T3 fronts) and that is overkill when B1/B2s would have been fine.
