Thanks very much for this lovely demo. I found it quite a tricky technique to master as the brushes are so tiny. Producing a very wet but fine line takes practice. I had to work in smaller sections and drop in more dark colour where it wasn't flowing well. I have a range of small brushes and found some worked better than others. The longer the 'bristles' the more paint they hold to produce wet lines although not as long as a rigger as these are more difficult to control.
When I don't want to reach over my work while painting I just turn the page around. We can usually paint upside down or sideways with no trouble. I teach this to all my art students and it has been a real eye-opener to many. I am new to watercolor and am enjoying following your wonderful lessons. You really are a wonderful instructor, Thank you.
That's lovely...you have such a nice way about you when you paint and talk..so soothing and interesting. Love it! And yes, you can praise your own work...especially when it's so lovely as that Fern 😊
I started this project this morning and it's not as easy as you make it look! I tried a few different brushes before I was happy. I'm going to sketch out the full frond and then have another go, now that I know what I need to do. It was very relaxing though! Thank you 🥰
Thank you Harriet! So so beautiful! You must have the patience of a saint! When I first started painting one year ago I had the impression that painting went faster than it really does but I too am learning patience! Thank you for being such a great roll model!!💕
Ferns are so beautiful and this is a great tutorial thank you! I hope you don’t mind a little bit of feedback, I found it easier to see the details when you were working on the right hand side of the fern as it’s closer to the camera. Really enjoying watching all your tutorials ta xx
I'm really loving these videos and you are really a fantastic teacher. Is it possible to add a light on your right hand side for future videos? The light (from a window?) on the left leaves a shadow from your hand over what you're painting so it's difficult to see at times!
Yes this is something we are going to address, the light changed quite dramatically during the filming of this video so we were caught out but we have already ordered some lighting for next week's filming. Thanks so much for your comment.
Lovely! Enjoying your tutorials so very much. Your style and teaching techniques are wonderful! Thank you.
You are so welcome!
I really am enjoying your teaching style it is encouraging and gentle

Beautiful and so easy to learn and follow!
Brilliant, so glad you think so!
So beautiful ! These leaf tutorials are extremely helpful and I love your calm zen-like painting energy.

Wow, beautiful.Hope to one day to achieve a lovely fern in watercolors. Thanks so much.
Ferns are a great one to start with
Ha, tried, but mine aren't so fern like. Will have to try again, lol. I thought things were going well, but then just realized not so much.
A remarkable study in color blending detail! A good learning exercise, I'll keep at it, thank you Harriet!
Thanks!

Me too!

Thanks George, I like to paint and talk in real time as I think the soothing quality of watercolour is half the reason why I enjoy it so much!
My fern came out nothing like yours. But it's so meditative. Thanks for your tutorials. I really like your style of painting and your instructions.
So glad you enjoyed the process

Nice on Donna, yes patience is key. Although I often get so lost in the moment I forget to be in any kind of hurry
