As a Muslim brother myself I can understand some of the good families that require a certain Mahr amount because sometimes some brothers wanna cut corners and pay little to nothing. It can show commitment. Also lets say this is all subjective to the financial status of the man. For example, if the man is a DR who makes $200k I would think its fair to ask for a reasonable fair amount that will be more than what would asked for from a blue collar working brother. Many brothers these days want to jump into a marriage without mahr and without a walimah (wedding, or feast) for their own benefits.
I watched this entire episode and as a woman this was so eye opening and informative. A few things I knew already and a few other points mentioned it never even crossed my mind. I'm now going to view the other episodes on the marriage topic. As a married woman , a Muslim woman , I should have asked some of these questions before getting married and perhaps I would have saved myself from disappointment and heartache.
