Not at all related to the theory, but I love how there was a bring back to the line "pesky bee" by duck, that for some reason was the most memorable line in the entire show for me and one of my favorites
ua-cam.com/video/hEMR154fNpM/v-deo.html
It’s Finally here
True!!! As soon as I saw the fly land by Duck, I quoted the “pesky bee” line with Duck without hesitation.
@@thewitherking6474 Yea, same lol
Totally agree!
Doo do do doo do
The fly landing on Yellow Guy's eye also indicates that he's being forced to look at the problem. He literally couldn't ignore it if he wanted to. He's also been contaminated by it.
Good point, and I want to make an addition: Because yellow guy represents the youth, this could also mean that he will be the one suffering the most in the future when the problem escalates.
@@elisabethkonig4267 that makes sense. Everyone can see it, but, it only affects him.
@@elisabethkonig4267 Makes sense of how he’s been treated in the series. His clown painting was destroyed, he was forced into a cult, his ears bled, was brainwashed, forced to eat his friend, and drowned in oil.
also he was forced to eat duck in that one episode ( idk if this as anything to do with it its just yellow guy is forced to do alot of things
Pesky bee
Duck mislabeling the fly and butterfly as a bee is much more than a simple mislabel. Bees can cause harm, flies and butterflies are harmless. Flies signify death and butterflies are often a symbol of next paths or beginnings. So, when duck kills the butterfly and characterizes it as a bee, he is saying that he sees this as something dangerous, or that could cause injury, and kills it. This, in a way, justifies his killing.
Essentially, duck killed an opportunity (butterfly) and a sign (fly) because he thought it was harmful.
Interesting, that lines up pretty well with the assumption that duck is representing the older generation. What I mean is that his conservatism in wanting to keep things the way they were due to it working before and being tradition leads to him identifying any change as harmful, whether that be the opportunity (I think for love?) or the sign of something dying (mainstream centralized media dying?).
Nice observations!
Flies harmless? Sure they don't sting but they can transmit many diseases. I would say they're far more harmful than bees.
Honestly very funny to come back here after the series literally shredded the *deep* purpose of the show in front of the audience.
I’m wondering if that alphabet code actually gave us loads more info…
@@snackplaylove you talkin bout the symbols on the book?
Those look more like multiple engineering/alchemical symbols layered over each other, but there are definitely letter/number-like symbols in there, too
Yeah it has the same vibe as Rick and Morty trolling the part of the audience who look into the relationship issues of the family instead of just enjoying the adventures.
Which is weird, because they were also doing those deeper messages and character interactions....
@@oriongurtner7293 ducks name is a symbol that looks like those symbols
I actually think the new season gave it more depth.
My thoughts on their roles is:
Duck represents the older generation. Our grandfathers and grandmothers.
Red Guy represents the adults.
Yellow Guy would be the children... or a child like thought process.
My reasoning behind it goes back to all the red guys in the past episodes all in the same room. A red guy is not just one person. It is a certain group of people even if one red guy may be a creative in the story. Wouldn't stand to reason there would be other ducks or yellow guys too to represent their groups of people?
It's a pretty good idea, just because 1 Red Guy (which is a simplification used to represent the adults) immagined his adventures with yellow guy and duck that doesn't make all of them immaginary beings. But I'm more of the opinion of Duck not being a demographic but simply a part of the creator's ego, the one ignoring or noticing the problems but unaware of the bigger picture like red guy. The reason is because Yellow guy and Red guy have similar names and are both human like, Duck has a very different name and physical appeareance.
I think the duck is a teenager because he is the only one who doesn’t care about the worlds problems
Duck representing the older generation fits a lot. He wears the old fashion type of suit, he is seen to own a pocket watch in episode 2 time, and reading newspaper is also a older thing.
@@patsondakaenjoyer911 what? teenagers care about the world's problems more than probably any other age group. what teenagers have you been talking to???

When yellow guy ate duck, I think he was replaced buy a new and "improved" duck by Roy. Making the new duck not recognize the bigger problem. Ignoring what the actual problem is, cause the first few episodes he was paying attention but was shut down, examples like, when the clock told him he needed a bath but he said he was already clean and didn't need one, and he questioned if the teacher knew what technically qualified as healthy foods. That's why I think Roy wanted to og duck gone cause he noticed that he was questioning what was really going instead of just believing anything he reads on the news paper just like an old person (suggesting he's of elderly age), on and made the steak teacher do surgery on his and made yellow guy eat him to put them both through misery. And now the new duck isn't questioning what's really going on just like Roy would've wanted.

I’m thinking instead of a politician, Duck is supposed to be a analog for “Legacy Media”. It makes more sense alongside what the other 2 characters are supposed to be. Duck calls the fly “a pesky bee” because he doesn’t realize that what he considers legitimate media is dying. Maybe that’s why Red guy calls him in episode 5 in the original show once he realizes that there’s a new and different way to produce media. Red Guy is trying one final time to explain to an older entertainer that times are changing. Before Duck can change his mind however, he is eaten/betrayed by the very kids he brainwashed with his outdated traditional media being represented by yellow guy.

Also, from Episode 4, remember that while Red Guy learns about the internet's potential to him, as a creator, Duck is taken in by frivolity, and Yellow Guy, the impressionable one who seems to be the one change should come through, is looking at data. I feel like Mat missed a very good chance to explore how the fly could represent Lord of The Flies. That book is such a telling allegory about the corruption power can give you.
it also work with the date as lord of the flies came out September 17
That’s actually a really good point.
Energy crisis leads to blackouts, that leads to Lord of the Flies situation
Instead, orange man bad.
Reading these comments and finding people making the most nonsensical conspiracies is baffling. Lord of the Flies is a good book. Not big enough though that a single fly can be an example of paying homage to Lord of the Flies. Although the book does contain similar themes in regards to childhood, I don’t believe there’s any connection. Personally I think he’s halfway right. Clayhill was a lot more about politics. I’d really like to watch Clayhill. But the series has nothing really to do with politics albeit some of the things MatPat regards are expressed in the show with how conceited and arrogant Duck’s character is shown to be. Anyhow, not everything is a connection or a theory. Also wanna point out he was right about September 22nd, as that’s when the series premiered.
Looking back on this and having seen the series, it seems Duck sometimes actually stops the problem and then other times ignores the problem. In episodes 1, 3, and 4 he actually STOP the problem. He undoes the damage done in Ep1, he is the first one who notices the family is off and possibly dangerous, and and in episode 4 he kills off Warren. But in the 5th and 6th episodes he ignores the problems around him. Yellow Guy also ignores the problems pretty often except for episodes 2 and 6. Red Guy is the most inconsistent outside of Episode 5 where he actually goes out of his way to escape with Duck and Yellow. Just thought that was interesting to point out.
It's also key to notice this is being aired on channel 4 - a channel well known for buying popular programmes from other channels and giving them a bigger budget. They do seem to have a busier set after all in the trailer! It'll be interesting to see how they fit the channel 4 ads around it too!

Another point for the fly being used, during the renaissance some of the Old Masters would paint and flies to show corruption on political leaders, as well as showing the representation of both death and sin. It’s also used to show the rotting or death of the soul.
I relly doubt a British run show, on television in 2022, is going to have anything positive to say about religion and would probably ignore the Renaissance.

9:10 "He can't not see it it's literally on his eyeball" I don't know why that line made me laugh 💀
So I disagree about the bee. I don’t think it’s commentary about ignoring a problem. I think it’s commentary on gaslighting. Flies and butterflies are not harmful yet bees have the possibility of stinging you. By saying “pesky bee” I believe he is giving a reason for killing the harmless insect.
i agree with this!! i think the butterfly might also represent yellow guy's opinions specifically, since he looks at the butterfly and finds it interesting, but then gets upset when duck guy kills it.

It's been 3 weeks and he has still not covered it, he doesn't want to admit it that his tv show theory is weong.
@@arthurpietrogarcia1057 theories take time. He just put one out and it’s pretty good, I suggest giving it a watch.
i think an interesting note that supports this theory, is that you know that Duck is, well a duck. Same shape, colours and kind of voice you would hear from a duck. However Red Guy and Yellow Guy, are slightly more vague in looks. They're both vaguely more humanoid and are varying colours different to what we generally see. Being muppets makes this much easier to convey the difference between people in a kids show. Compare the big bads who have darker stylissation and their bright coloured counterparts.
The fact that Red Guy is all red and Yellow guy is yellow and blue can represent the adult having found their path and youth being more impressionable.
This ages like milk
Something to consider about Duck character, if you go back and rewatch ep 2.
If you notice towards the end of ep 2, Duck questions The clock character, asking if time is just human conception we made.
And the clock get upset with him, and starts beeping so loud that it makes yellow guys ears start to bleed.
It seems that’s the first, and last time time Duck questions anything. And in result of that, yellow guy got hurt from it.
Maybe when Duck calls the butterfly, and fly a “pesky bee” he’s not ignoring the problem, but trying to bring up the subject without causing a similar outcome from the Clock episode (yellow guys ears bleeding).
I think Duck does want to knowledge a problem, but in a way, it won’t cause undesirable outcomes.
Now Red Guy seems to want ignore the issue, with the butterfly, and fly, he’s completely silence, doesn’t say a word or knowledge it when Duck kills both bugs.
Duck doing anything (even killing the butterfly/fly) at least shows he see the issue even though he might not completely understand the issue, but red, he almost acts like he can’t see either bug at all, and barley knowledges their presence.
I think Duck is dealing with the problems, the only way he knows how. Instead of questioning it like he did an ep 2, he goes straight to just taking out the “issue” head on by smashing the bugs.
Duck might feel this is the safer option now, vs questioning it, like he did with The Clock.
Either way I feel Duck at least doing anything (even if we believe it to be the wrong move), shows he at least aware of a problem vs Red guy being silent, and unmoving throughout both scenes.
If you look at their faces when the Clock starts beeping you’ll notice, red guy, and Duck put their hands over their ears (almost like they were trying to block out what the clock was saying) but yellow guy (young and naive) didn’t know to cover his ears, and in result heard the “beeping” (wrong information being told) that caused his ears to bleed (damaged caused by being misinformed)
Again, I think Duck is aware of that, and now when he sees a new “problem or issue” arise he tries to take it on in a new way, as he knows what kinda of damage he caused to yellow guy, by absentmindedly questioning everything, and everyone.
Instead of confronting it, and having the consequences of yellow guy being misinformed again, he tackles the issues without a second thought, just another “pesky bee” in his mind.
@@day539 I feel like he tackles the issue less and more of a symptom of the issue
It could also be that when duck was just asking a genuine question, the clock felt it as him questioning their authority and started to yell, and duck and red guy are both “adult figures” so they were able to remove themselves from the problem, and yellow guy, representing a more childlike figure, was not able to do so and as a result suffers from it. So maybe all of this is the effect of generational trauma. Idk that’s just my take on it yours is really interesting as well
What I really love about the DHMIS series is how the creators respond to fan theories - they said in an interview "they're all correct", which allows endless speculation as opposed to just confirming one theory and stopping it there. It ties in to what the whole series means to me personally, that being the importance of thinking for yourself and not letting anyone hinder your ideas.

Everything is correct technically means that, since some theories are bound to contradict each other, that none of them are correct as well.
This is great watching after it already came out and going “heheh no, you silly man-“
Yeah it is 😅
My interpretation of duck is he’s a older generation, possibly boomer, of politicians and despite it being a newer generation now he still believes the views and politics he grew up with and why he ignores the fly, the problem, yellow guy knows somethings wrong, he’s only just noticed it, but when you’re young and your elders tell you there’s no problem when there clearly is one you ignore it because they did

I think this is very interesting as well. Yellow guy at first sees it as a pretty butterfly before seeing it for what it actually is, perhaps symbolizing growing up/expanding your worldview. Red guy sees it for what it is pretty much right away, symbolizing maturity and critical thinking gained over time. Duck is closer to seeing what it truly is than yellow guy is the first time, but he is still wrong and sees it as the exact same thing the second time, perhaps symbolizing a person/group who are set in their ways. He doesn't get any closer to the truth but remains stagnant. Maybe his views are outdated or manipulated by some external force. This could fit with the generational theory I have been seeing floating around a lot, or it could symbolize different types of people/different stages of life in general.

But solving the bigger problem could cause problems with their power or well being.
Another fun fact : most people in their positions of power would do the same thing to sustain wealth down their generations.
Make the masses have to do something to fix a problem and they get uncomfortable and look for someone to blame for the problem.
Tell them the problem isn't really a problem and you come away looking like your sensible rather than a liar.

Im starting to wonder what the heck is going on in the last eps. of the tv series (eps.6) and what is in the book that was given to yellow guy? (spoilers if you havent seen the episode or series a bit). episode is about electricity and yellow guy is apparently a robot or something and gets his batteries switched out and now he is smart and starts to relize what is his reality or something and goes up the stairs in the kitchen. till he gets till the attic and already explored all the rooms a new character appears in a room in the attic of the house called lezley. yellow and lezley talk for a bit and she gives him a random book and tells him to got to his friends and share whats inside of the book. yellow goes and does that but duck ruins it all since he switched out the batteries to yellows old ones and yellow guy shreds the book. now to me thats some good lore perspectives just pointing it out.
I read a comment about this and I think the book is the whole lore and a way to escape this nightmare they are in. The reason why they couldn’t find out what was in it is because Lesley fooled yellow guy. Since she’s the one pulling the strings, she probably already knew they wouldn’t find a way to escape. Also if you saw what happened after yellow guy left to tell the others about the book, there was another door with stairs leading up to a new room and yellow guy missed it because he was distracted by Lesley.

Oh boy, now that I’ve seen the show, this is such an over analyzation. I can’t wait to see Matt try to warp the plot of the show to fit his theory
The film that was shown at the Sundance Festival HAS appeared online, a couple of times, actually.
It’s badly filmed at the back of the theatre, and the girl filming it has the most obnoxiously loud laugh, but it was definitely available.
Maybe it still is? The quality was dreadful, though, and obviously filmed without the consent of the creators. But still, it was exciting to see!
Matpat: I bet you just saw an add, didn’t you?
Me: sorcery.
I wouldn't have known this series existed with Matt, so thank you Film Theroy

Can't wait for his theory on the TV show now that it's come out
It would be cool if, at some point, this channel made a theory video about either the Muppets(Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo, etc.), Sesame Street, or Fraggle Rock. Bonus points if it's not a theory that is widely discussed or even original.
Now that the tv show is here, more DHMIS film theories! Thank you, matpat, for putting together these awesome theories. Must take all the brainpower you got to make these theories.
Well, this didn’t hold up well-
yeah
it kinda did but not most of it
When I heard the word fly and MatPats mention of media, the term “fly on the wall” came to mind, so I was thinking that the fly is the media reporting facts, unbiased and since Duck says “Pesky Bee” and then continues to smash it, since it’s distracting him from reading his Right Wing newspaper, it seems quite on the nose what the message is here, just my two cents

This was a very intriguing theory, definitely going to have to check out DHMIS!
I agree with everyone here that Duck is the voice of reason in the series. He questions when things go wrong and is vocal about his disagreement with the lesson of each episode. I think that this is a critique of the alt-right pipeline, specifically with how the newspaper slowly grows more extreme as Duck becomes more disconnected from the world's problems.
Hard to tell. Problem with making a political commentary is if you don't truly understand the position of both sides, you're prone to falling to your own bias. If the creators are trying to make a strong left wing position, but mischaracterize or belittle their opposition unfairly, it'll fall flat.
The swastika that appears on the chalkboard in DHMIS 2 while duck is explaining time may tell something

Fun Fact: In 2017, the people behind “Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared” actually teamed up with the people behind Cartoon Network’s “The Amazing World Of Gumball” to create an episode called “The Puppets” where Gumball and Darwin are trapped in a DHMIS style world.
Ever since I seen that episode, I can’t stop playing thinking about dhmis, cause it actually feels like a dhmis episode
which episode is that? I'd love to watch it
That was them??? Oh my gosh-
I thought that episode seemed familiar
Especially when they say “the fun will never end” even though they are torturing gumball and Darwin
The fact that Duck calls what it kills a "bee" each time also calls to the idea that politicians would always blame the same thing for all problems

Gotta milk that UA-cam algorithm for those sticky views.
I thought the whole "June 19th" thing was Father's day, symbolizing that Roy was in charge and controlling the show, and that the flip from June 19th to June 20th was symbolizing that Roy was no longer in power.

@MrBeas𝔱 ⸜⁄ MrBeast?
@@vyor8837 Brit here, I can confirm that our whole political scene is way more left-leaning.
I'm just throwing this in there but Duck is also the voice of reason in the series. For example in DHMIS 2 he questions the clock why they need to take a bath if they're already clean, as well as suggest that time is a concept of human perception. In 5, he questions the teacher's qualification for healthy foods and decides he has had enough of their BS. Each time he is silenced for pointing things out that don't make any sense to him. That may change with this new series but for the most part Duck is the voice of reason.
I also think each character represents an issue or way the media/corporations/adults treats demographics of age
-yellow guy: young people are easy to milk and brainwash
-red guy: the young adults get their messages and ideas stolen
-duck: old people knowledge being seen as worthless or treating old people as expendable/stupid despite their experience
I agree with that. There's a certain left-leaning side that's always trying to stamp down reason in favor of passion, because relying solely on kneejerk emotion and not logic/thinking makes people easier to manipulate (such as perhaps the fear of a rampant virus *cough cough*) Regardless, in the original videos of this series, Duck was also the one who ended up getting torn apart and consumed because he wouldn't stop questioning what the "programs" were telling him. In other words, they got rid of him because he didn't agree; he got shut down for not cooperating. He could represent those people trying to get others to ask questions of their own and actually think for themselves rather than just absorbing what the media and "certain people" in authority are feeding them.

Sir helix_buzak
True
I think there’s more than that to Duck. In E:2 of DHMIS, Duck actually tries to explain a scientific theory, but is cut off by the clock. Afterwards he seems more compliant with the obviously inaccurate teachings of the guests. When E:5 happens, Duck keeps getting visions of the real world whenever he picks up the phone, the one that Redguy (the artist) is calling. As an adult, he is able to pick up on the metaphors being laid down, unlike Yellowguy, who represents a younger audience and cannot pick up on those metaphors. When he gets these messages, he is finally able to realize that the guests aren’t telling the truth. “Something’s… wrong-“ “That doesn’t make any sense-!” Once he’s had enough and tries to leave, he gets eaten by a food can (which probably represents a corporation of some kind), and is unable to stop it. He acted as a pawn for the companies sponsoring DHMIS, and once he had outlived his purpose, he was recycled into wrong food to feed to a younger audience so they would eat it up. It’s late and I probably didn’t communicate clearly what I was saying, but yeah.

I've always seen Duck as a higher-up type of character in DHMIS. Like, he has political levels of power, that could easily surpass Roy's influence and Red Guys show as a whole, but due to being up there in age, he sometimes ends up getting manipulated by the people around him
Okay…uh…u,m…I read that
Finally it's here:
ua-cam.com/video/iik25wqIuFo/v-deo.html
The creators may try to paint him as a right wing figure, but, without trying to get too political (don't want that mess here), I think, with your description, he may be representative of politicians as a whole. Old guys who do what they're told despite the clear issues with everything. (And that's both sides, I'm staying as neutral as possible here to try and prevent the comment section from crucifying me)
is there anything you wanna say to joe biden rn?
Possibly
I find it odd that duck was “ignoring problems” at first but then suddenly, in the healthy episode he’s constantly insisting that something is wrong
Edit: Omg, tysm for all the likes and the fun discussion in the replies! It’s super kool looking at all of your guys’ opinions on this! This like never happens to me so thank you!
They could be saying even tho duck was right about his suspicions and worries he isn't always correct. The left and right are two wings on the same bird so even tho they both have good ideas or worries you shouldn't always listen to them, but you shouldn't silence them either. That's how duck ended up getting eaten lol. Tho I have no idea what's really goin on
Maybe everything became so obvious that even he noticed it
I think Duck represents the parents, and that seeing how screwy the lessons were getting in that episode tipped him off and made him realize that things were wrong. Most adults tend to ignore an issue until it's too big to ignore, instead choosing to deal with the smaller symptoms instead of the bigger picture, mostly through ignorance(whether by choice or because they truly didn't know what was going on is dependant on the situation).
So that's my theory on Ducks role.
Red Guy is the creator, Roy is the sponsor, Yellow Guy is the children, and Duck is the parents/parental guardians.
It could be a difference between Duck the character and the 'actor' playing him. He would be written as someone who ignores problems and such, but the actual person trapped in the show, as he realizes in that episode, is different.
I see it as him trying to hide the problem, not ignoring it
I love how wrong these theories are now that the episodes have been released
There was like 5 seconds of footage available anyways lol
frr like im watching this now and it genuinely makes my head hurt how deep he's going into a theory that isn't even correct 😭😭
I mean, the ideia of something wrong being ignore is kinda right, but in a different way...
Bur yeah, good theory, sad it exactly correct
You do understand the concept of a theory right? Like he ain’t stating this as fact. Smh
Wdym it's not really wrong

1. During the audio as you zoom in and out of the tv, there’s distorted voices. It’s hard to figure out what there saying but it sounds like “we have to hide the body.” Possibly why there are flies and themes to do with rot…
2. The text that appears are filled with quick changing images of the characters…I wonder if it’s possible to piece them together to see if there’s anything hidden-?
