Actually the most painful thing to think about when listening to this song is the people that were left behind. The living are the ones suffering the most. Just like Levi. The burdens he has on his shoulders. Being Humanity's Strongest Soldier, he cannot show weakness in front of the soldiers, he is like their pillar of support. Their hope. If their hope were to break down, the soldiers will lose their morale and due to that, Levi has to keep it all in and suffer quietly probably crying in his room, when no one is looking. He has no one to turn to because he is the strongest. It's a BIG BIG burden on him. This is why I respect Levi so damn much! He's so damaged now but he has to be strong for the rest of the soldiers. Poor Levi T_T
Can you imagine the things Levi had to go through to be who he is now? No emotional expression towards anything, not even for the people he cares about anymore. well firstly you should read a choice with no regrets manga, it's trully wonderful and describes perfectly levi's backstory... well i think levi is like that not only because of the pain and the burden of everyone he has lost, but also because he is the leader, the captain. he must stay strong. if he's weak, then everyone in his squad would be too. when his squad members were killed, you could see clearly the pain in his eyes, the pain in his voice. he is emotional, he just can handle his emotions very well

A reason to love anime is that, though a lot of outsiders consider it as "Children's cartoon" or "shit" they'll never know how deep a story can go, they'll never know how an anime lovers feeling's can be touched, they'll never know how much a manga writer, an anime animator and a song writer (for the anime ofc) can change a person's life and how they now will see things...They'll never know how many times anime has been there for us when no one else was. They'll never know the amazing adventures we go on, the journey we've survived, the heart breaking truth of why Hughes didn't come home (reference, don't get triggered) and the obsess over flipping another page, reading another fanfiction, watching another episode, learning the song and trying to draw their faces. Anime...Was and is the most biggest impact, influence and help I've ever had. Not only did I not feel unwanted or alone, there were also many others out there who were just like me. And this is....My reason for loving anime (I needed to write my thoughts somewhere XDD)

It's like the love that i feel for SNK just completely consumes me every time i hear this song, it's such an amazing feeling but at the same time its so painful, to love something like this as much as we do. I feel as though being part of a fandom made me who i am today, and i wouldn't change that for the world. i'm about to cry ;-; My heart aches for poor Levi. Like another comment said, he's so damn strong, not just because he kills titans, because he is Humanity's Strongest Solider and is expected to be strong as hell and the soldiers depend on him to not break down. He's lost cadets and his own friends that were the only ones to make him smile. It's unfair to him, he deserves a break. That's another reason why i'm in love with him. Most humans would give up and fall to the ground, but he stood straight and kept his head up. He's never reluctant to protect the walls.

Beautiful! The original has the motivation and the drive to kill Titans, but this version... this version makes me see this: It's around 3am in the morning and Levi's in his room. He can't sleep and is thinking too much. He gets up from his chair, gets his journal, and again starts to write about what he remembers of Isabel and Farlan, and how they were his family. Tears start forming and he wipes them away. Then, he writes about Petra and his old squad and he's cursing under his breath as the tears, this time, are unrelenting. Then, he writes about the new squad he has, the brats he has to watch over and train, and that he wonders how long they will last and how he can keep the squad intact. At this point, he's silently crying and his tears are soaking the pages, making them wrinkly like the pages before. After he's finished crying, he puts it back in his trunk, and locks it up. He sits back down in his chair and tries to quickly go to sleep before he thinks of anything else.
That hurts, reading your comment, just imagining a fictional or actual person doing what you just said, it's like there's a painful ache in the heart that just won't leave but the person has to keep living to give meaning for those departed

Sometimes I forget that this is an anime and not something from real life... This may be fictional, but the emotions of the characters feel so real, it scares me. Attack on Titan is possibly the only anime that can make me laugh, cry, scare me, make me hate and love characters and still make me want to keep watching. If I had been in their scenario... I don’t think I’d be able to handle any of this

I see people in the comments saying how this song perfectly catches how it feels to lose someone, or how it fits the loss of someone. But in my opinion, this song is powerful because it isn't mourning the dead. It's mourning the living. It's mourning those who fight, knowing they'll most likely not come back, because it's all they have left. They have to look forward because it's all they can afford to know. This is the going away song for the heroes that will never return.

Having read the recent chapter of the manga....this just crushed my emotions into atomised bits. It sheds light on that badass's humanity and what makes him so level headed under severe stress and trauma. He buries the pain not to forget, but because he has to so no one else close to him will die. Beautiful arrangement.

That's why Attack on Titan's emotional songs/background songs, makes me cry. I remember Attack on Titan was my first anime I ever watched. The first moments of being an anime fan/AOT fandom was amazing.. then I found this video. Had it on repeat for hours, for days! That was 8 years ago and I came back realising that this song was a pillar stone to me on my journey with AOT. I also love the original, but this song has so much emotion it makes me tear up. Even knowing that AOT ended a couple of days ago I had to come back in remembrance of my early years of watching AOT. Thank you Amalee, this song, this lullaby has held our hearts. God d%$# it. The feels. Just that picture of Levi breaks my heart. He's bravely wielding his swords, but his expression is just so sad and lonely. It reflects him perfectly. Humanity's Strongest Soldier, whom everyone idolizes and looks up to. People seem to forget that he's a human being, too, he's been through a lot of grief. His reaction when Furlan and Isabel died.... I get teary every time I think of it. He was DEVASTATED. One minute he was screaming, cutting off the Titan's head and threatening Erwin, yelling that he would kill him, then the next he just fell to his knees. And then that scene when they dumped the bodies and Levi, despite his emotionless facade, was watching Petra's body fall....

Train hard! Trian harder! For the florist, for the baker, for the merchant. ... Little Soldier boy off to protect. He is scared. Why? Why does his heart beet so fast? The enemy is upon them. This isn't like training this is real! The enemy wants to hurt him! He wants to run. But then he remembers. The kindness of his neighbors. The warmth of his home. Those are worth fighting for! ... The fight is won Yet his comrades, they cry. "Little Soldier boy wont make it" they are saying Little Soldier boy smiles "Thats okay. Because now someone's home is safe for just one day longer" Little Soldier boy goes to his final home. Maybe their will be flowers? Maybe pastries? Perhaps stories? He hopes so. It's like the love that i feel for SNK just completely consumes me every time i hear this song, it's such an amazing feeling but at the same time its so painful, to love something like this as much as we do. My heart aches for poor Levi. Like another comment said, he's so damn strong, not just because he kills titans, because he is Humanity's Strongest Solider and is expected to be strong as hell and the soldiers depend on him to not break down. He's lost cadets and his own friends that were the only ones to make him smile. It's unfair to him, he deserves a break. That's another reason why i'm in love with him. Most humans would give up and fall to the ground, but he stood straight and kept his head up. He's never reluctant to protect the walls.

It's around 3am in the morning and Levi's in his room. He can't sleep and is thinking too much. He gets up from his chair, gets his journal, and again starts to write about what he remembers of Isabel and Farlan, and how they were his family. Tears start forming and he wipes them away. Then, he writes about Petra and his old squad and he's cursing under his breath as the tears, this time, are unrelenting. Then, he writes about the new squad he has, the brats he has to watch over and train, and that he wonders how long they will last and how he can keep the squad intact. At this point, he's silently crying and his tears are soaking the pages, making them wrinkly like the pages before. After he's finished crying, he puts it back in his trunk, and locks it up. He sits back down in his chair and tries to quickly go to sleep before he thinks of anything else.
That hurts, reading your comment, just imagining a fictional or actual person doing what you just said, it's like there's a painful ache in the heart that just won't leave but the person has to keep living to give meaning for those departed

I remember Attack on Titan was my first anime I ever watched. The first moments of being an anime fan/AOT fandom was amazing.. then I found this video. Had it on repeat for hours, for days!
That was 8 years ago and I came back realising that this song was a pillar stone to me on my journey with AOT. I also love the original, but this song has so much emotion it makes me tear up. Even knowing that AOT ended a couple of days ago I had to come back in remembrance of my early years of watching AOT.

I get teary every time I think of it. He was DEVASTATED. One minute he was screaming, cutting off the Titan's head and threatening Erwin, yelling that he would kill him, then the next he just fell to his knees.
And then that scene when they dumped the bodies and Levi, despite his emotionless facade, was watching Petra's body fall....

Relatable.....its sad, and bad.
Little Soldier boy loved his family. Little Soldier boy loved his town. The friendly baker down the street, who sometimes gave him a pastry if he was good. The merchant with the crooked eye who could weave a yarn. The nice Florist who would always tell him to respect his mother, and sister no matter how much they annoyed him.
Then the enemy from across the wall did attack.
His home became a "Not-home".
An abomination of his home. A twisted warped version of home.
How could something he loved be reduced to such a state.
The bakery was baked.
The flowers at the Florists in flames
And the kindly merchant told stories no longer, for now they were replaced with nightmares.

Little Soldier boy joined his local millitia.
Wanted to make sure the fate of his home never befell anyone else.
Little Soldier boy trained.
