Yes, there are words with unique pronounciation. I have difficult time learning English in HK when I was very young.
其實都有得解嘅，語言嘅變化係會隨住時間而流動，古英語到早時英語到現代英語，隨住時間改變，人對於某一個字嘅讀法都係有所變化，有啲字會增減、讀音寫法會有所改變，尤其係英國歷史入面多次俾唔同嘅外族所佔領，社會由唔同嘅階級組成，唔同地區對同一個字都已經實際上會有唔同嘅讀法；再加上英文要去到1755年先有第一本嘅字典面世，唔似拉丁文咁自羅馬時期已經有所記錄，有咗字典之後英文嘅串法同讀音先至有人去記載；而由於英文嘅 Standardization 係以倫敦為中心，可能某啲地方名嘅讀音係以該地嘅讀法而記錄，所以出現咗佢實際讀法同串法同所謂標準嘅英語有所唔同。
1個字1個重音，其他syllable 弱化，就算讀錯都有個譜。呢個 video幾有趣。thx!
